@thewindburner: With an argument like that we could use the argument for any game where the story continued with another game.

Mass Effect 1/2/3, same thing.

FF XIII - XIII/2, XIII:LR, same thing.

ect.

I've always said the same thing about $70. I prefer a price increase vs. DLC or microtransactions. With the prices staying static at $60 when they probably should be closer to $80 it's not surprise that developers are trying to find more ways to make more money through other means and not including complete games for $60.

@hardwenzen: FPSes aren't the only game out there and are one of the few that may not benefit much from the SSD, though you'll see some. With the genre's starting to merge and some FPSes offering more than just go from location A to location B to location C ect and sometimes having to travel back and forth you'll see a bit more. A lot of FPSes are starting to put fast travel into their games.

Any game with fast travel it will help. That generally includes basically any open world RPG. some JRPGs, Action-Adventure games, ect. Racing games will slightly benefit from it, even fighting games will see a minor benefit when loading stages.

As games get bigger, as graphic quality increases, HDD is going to be the constant bottleneck. You want 4k graphics? good luck loading those on a HDD quickly. PS4/X1 basically ditched the Blu-ray drive and went for installing the entire game on the HDD because the HDD was too slow.

Ask a lot of PC users who still have an HDD to play games on the PC. There's a lot of complaints on any game with decent amount of data to load about the long loading time. I read quite a few complaints on games I play about 2-3 minute loading times. I load up the game with my SSD that's probably close to half the speed of the PS5s and I get a lot closer to instant loading times.

@bababooey12: It actually is because of the exclusives.

A lot of Xbox people buy Xbox because of Halo/Gears/Forza. They sell great. However they have one issue which is if you aren't a FPS or racing fan, XBOX isn't a great console for you. You can instead buy a PS4 and get access to great games like spiderman, uncharted, god of war, Horizon: ZD, ect. Games that cover a lot more diverse range of genres.

People don't buy the PS4 because of the "overwhelming install base". It's because they have a huge diverse collection of games. Sure each game might not sell as much as an Xbox eclusive but that's because a RPG fan isn't likely to also be into FPS games or action games or a platformer or a racer.

Xbox is very specilized, Playstation does it all. Xbox got me with the 360 at the beginning because it felt like they were trying to break out of it with games like Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey. Then they decided to forget about it and went back to FPS and racers. So I bought a PS3 and never looked back. This gen, I still haven't touched an Xbox one because it lacks games.

@sladakrobot: Personally I stay physical for the price. Sales are great but a lot of times it's just let's price it at the same price as a new or used physical game and trick people into believing that they are "saving" money. It's one of the reason you can see the same games going on sale during those weekly, monthly, and seasonal sales. They aren't going on "sale". They are removing the ripoff price when you are paying $60 digitally for a game not on sale that is $30 physical and then put the game at $30 on "sale".

Not saying that some games don't get better prices digitally but it's pretty rare. It's great to have the option though.

@Slash_out: So it's not true that Sony pays nothing for online. Costs:

- Account servers

- Redirection Servers

- Share features

- Second screen

- Security

- Tech support/phone support

- other costs

Now that's not saying that the monthly fee isn't far more than what they pay, it's rather cheap but it's not like they do nothing. There are other reasons for the fee that's not related to online and then of course the perks of PS+ like the free games. It's not something that we should have to pay but tbh I payed it before it was required for the free games and would continue to do so if the free games ended.

I also find it interesting that you say you'll support MS if they say their online is going to be free when MS is the one that started the whole pay for online thing.

@NassaDane: As long as they don't push it by lowering the price beyond what they save by not putting it in and continue to sell the disc version, I'm personally all for it but won't be buying it. Digital prices revolve too much around the "sale" culture of terrible prices that hardly change unless the game is on sale and games go on sale relatively often. Prefer paying the "sale" price at any time by buying a used copy of the game and sometimes by buying a new physical copy of the game.

With that said, plenty of people play all their games digital and either have a blu-ray player specifically made to play blu-rays or also watch all their movies digitally. I personally have Hulu and Netflix for the majority of my shows and movies.

@Dragon_Nexus: There are very few if any games that don't install to the HDD on the PS4, I doubt it will be any different than the PS5. Blu-ray drives aren't very good at reading all the data needed to play games without an installation.

The disc will be DRM. However unlike digital DRM it can be sold, traded, borrowed, ect.

Unless Sony really wants to promote all digital I doubt we'll see much of a price change even for the two versions.

@tingtong: For me, a lot. I looked at some of the movie prices for those skipping the theater and they are outrageous. For example, Amazon wants $15 for a 2 day rental of Trolls: World Tour. I watch most movies alone so it's a decent chunk of change to watch the movie at home for a short rental. I can instead pay $21 a month to watch unlimited movies at my local Regal Theater. It's a short drive and I can survive 2-3 hours without a drink or popcorn so I just skip the cost of it. I usually see 3+ movies a month so I would have to spend $45 at the online rental price compared to $21 a month.

The theaters aren't packed unless you go 2-3 days after release. I almost never have a problem with the other people at the theater and it's a nice experience. It's a lot cheaper than buying a home stereo system, some more comfortable recliner chairs and other nice theater things.
