I read an interview with Sony's new American president where he said don't expect the price drop to come nearly as soon or to be nearly as major as the PS2's. But in that same interview he called to Wii an 'impulse buy'. Because of that his insulting statements seem kind of in question, to me at least. On top of that PS3 sales still fall behind expectations.
Now that the new 360 model has been revealed I am starting to hear rumors of a price drop of the old 360 models of about $100 by the holidays. If those rumors turn out to be true, the PS3 will have a major problem selling units, especially when they keep losing exclusivity on so many major titles. Â
Since the 20G version of the PS3 is out of production, only the $600 will be around. $600 vs. $300 vs. $250 really speaks for itself for people on a budget (i.e. people who have to work to make a meager living). Since Sony has so few exclusive titles to depend on to sell its system, money is going to be a big deal for sales. This would just make a price drop seem necessary.Â
Don't give me your answer in the form of you defending/insulting a system's performance, because your opinion on that really doesn't matter here. I consider the PS2 to be one of the best things to happen to video games in the last 10 years, I'm not coming with a secret Sony-hating agenda, and I love my Wii.
Does anybody have something to point out from a historical standpoint in console wars, or something relevant as to why Sony would or why Sony can't reduce the price in the near future? I understand a PS3 isn't cheap to make, but without selling the systems you can't hope for hardware to sell.Â
