@reavern: True, but the Nintendo Switch is not a traditional home console like the Wii or Wii U (where your argument is absolutely correct). Nintendo Switch It is a souped up Nvidia K1 tablet, and must use the hardware afforded to it by that solution.
I hope we see the X2 (Parker) or better SoC used on whatever version comes next.
@reavern: You are operating on the assumption that Nintendo isn't already working with Nvidia on the next iteration of the Switch tablet and USB dock. I have a feeling we will see an upgrade in the next 3-4 years.
@alan_wake1: You guys are having a great, productive discussion! (No sarcasm, I mean this sincerely).
Nintendo has always made crazy money because the only thing they do is video games and hanafuda playing cards (and "love hotels"...look it up). They are not a massive comglomerate that makes Operating Systems, phones, computers, TVs, etc etc.
Everything they make is re-invested into perfecting the two things they do - which is why they are still around and have a huge bank account.
Also -- those amibo toys are also marketing genius -- I know a handful of people with ALL OF THEM. They are not used, just displayed.
@Atzenkiller: Games are usually created for the *lowest common denominator* that has a large market and will sell. Currently, this is the PS4 and X1.
This is not a "PC master race" type post, I own many consoles including a PS4. Just a fact - games look INCREDIBLE on PC in HD/1440p/4K, especially if improved texture packs are made and if you have the power.
@Atzenkiller: Looking forward to the first-party (Nintendo) gaemes, but am hopeful that we will see sports, wrestling and FPS games for the Nintendo Switch.
I *really* want NBA 2K18 to be great on Switch - console experience on a handheld. The closest thing now os NBA 2K13 on Vita.
@GameboyTroy: It was a smart move to stick with micro SD cards. Capacities are going up and prices are coming down, which is music to my ears (Vita memory still very expensive, good luck finding anything bigger than 128GB).
@GameboyTroy: Game cards are a necessity for any console that can be used outside of the home. I have a PSP and the UMD optical media causes freezes and skips anytime the system is exposed to a mild bump (think turbulence on planes, daily commute on subway or above-ground train).
You would be surprised how many sports and AAA FPS games are 32gb or less.
@TashunkoSapa: Staff was used to describe business users at work, not home users. RE comfort: I have a gaming desktop and an aging gaming laptop -- prefer using the mouse, keyboard and comfy chair around my desktop.
Laptop used in a pinch when away from home. How often do you game away from your primary setup?
