I'm in total agreement with the title. Calling it Wii U to all consumers (informed, ignorant, or otherwise) does not scream "brand-new console!" It screams "add-on."
I like the Wii U, but the title and the console's lack of first- and third-party support is pathetic.
The Wii U's current condition isn't surprising. Once new games crop, the system will thrive. Easier said than done, and perhaps an overgeneralization, but that's how it goes. I'm pumped for the upcoming releases and so will be future Wii U consumers.
I remain unconvinced that the video game industry is in a state of turmoil. There's greater diversity, greater competition, and a greater yearning for innovation. There is only more to lose because of the amount of money and resources publishers and developers put forth, and, if companies lose, the impact can be devastating. This is where all the "doomsday" forecasting comes from.
