seems more like a problem with the tv if the component devices are playing up alsodjrobst

I figured as much. I am leaning towards the TV as well. The x360 detected the hdmi connection automatically as 1080p: the first thing I verified (seventy5cent832)

Hey all,

I was finally able to get out and pick up the hdmi AV kit from BestBuy, and the 360 detected the 1080p right away and my sound worked in 5.1 on my receiver with my digital optical cable. Thanks to those who helped me out previously.

I have another problem now, this one is seemingly something that my TV's manufacturer will have to deal with:

I own and have owned a 40inch 1080p Samsung LCD TV (model #: LNT4061FX/XAC) since November 2007 with 0 issues. I plugged in the 360 with the hdmi yesterday, and everything, including movies, seemed to work fine. We watched some of our recorded programs with our PVR afterwards and still everything looked fine. We left for lunch, came back, and turned on the 360 to play Dead Rising. Again, everything was fine. We ran some errands, came back home, loaded a DVD into the 360, and all of a sudden there is a flicker, mostly disappearing/re-appearing white/grey lines across the screen.

To troubleshoot, I removed ALL the connections, including the hdmi. The only cable plugged in was the power cord, and even with only that, the TV's "menu" had the flicker. I left everything unplugged overnight (with PCs, sometimes this helps) and voilà, the flicker is gone...until that is, I decide to plug things back in. Mind you, it is 7am here and I was in a rush, so I should have left it at the menu screen for about 5mins to determine whether or not the TV would continue flickering.

Once I got to the hdmi, things seemed fine when I turned it on...but within seconds, the flicker returned.

I am out of the house for about 2 days, so I unplugged everything from the back of the TV and left the power bar unplugged. I wrote my wife and asked her to plug things back in (i went back to component with my 360, to see if the issue remains), but my question to any and all of you is: has anyone else on these forums, or someone you know, experienced this kind of issue before? I say "flicker", but it's difficult to explain it without making it seem like a defective TV.

Again, I have been running the x360 for about 2weeks with the component without any issues. I simply wanted to push out 1080p since I had the TV for it, but the hdmi connection seems to have messed things up, including for devices using component (i.e. Wii, PVR)

Thanks for any input guys!

PEACE

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes, you assumed right in regards to my receiver. I have a DD 5.1 optical(2) and coaxial(2) receiver, but not hdmi inputs/outputs. My only HDMI device (so far) is the 360 Pro (i.e. the newer model).

I caved and purchased M$'s kit, the one from the BestBuy link. (thanks BTW) Yet another example of M$ making their money. :) All they had to do, and obviously they could, was bundle a multi-output adapter with the newer Pro model, which didn't block the HDMI port. Or place the HDMI elsewhere. :p

And yes, I realized that my TV, having only 2-channel, will output digital optical to my receiver, but only 2 channel. I would need a converter, most likely. A converter plus all the cables will probably cost me more than the 59$ kit M$ is selling.

It now works.

So, here is what I did, but I still am having another issue now:

I have an HDMI running from the x360 to my TV; the x360 automaticaly sets itself to 1080p

I have an optical running from the TV's optical output to the receiver; the receiver detects the digital signal, plays the sound, but only in Dolby Digital stereo, and not 5.1. Is it possible the TV is preventing the 5.1 from running to my receiver? I know for a fact the x360 received the 5.1 signal when using the multi-output connector and component.

Has anyone else run into this issue? For reference, my TV is a Samsung 40inch 1080p, 60hz.

XFilthX: when you say the HDMI provided with your x360, what kind of "end" plugs into the x360? Is it an L shape allowing for the bulky multi-output connector to fit along with the HDMI adapter? That is my problem right now.

Thanks for the input

desperados11, yes. That is what I am saying. The multi-output is too bulky and prevent me from having both the hdmi and it plugged in.

I think I will do as a you wrote: use an optical from the TV into the receiver, but keep the HDMI into the TV. I think that should work, I only need to run a little config on my TV to allow the output. Thanks.

Hey all,

I recently purchased a 360, and I thought I could put a hdmi cable for video and a optical cable for my 5.1 surround sound, but because the rather large and obstructive adapter that includes the RCA/RGB/optical connections covers the hdmi port, I cannot get my hdmi cable I purchased to plug in as well.

I was hoping I could split the signals; have the video running through hdmi for 1080p resolution and run my optical to my receiver for my 5.1 DTS/DD. I noticed M$ charges something like 50$ for their hdmi cable, but my questions are the following:

a) will they both plug into the x360?

b) can i split the audio/video in terms of source; video to come from hdmi but not audio; audio comes out of optical

Thanks for the input!

See, it's not that I CAN'T play, but I tried out the BF Bad Company demo (it's my only example as of yet) and it took almost 5 tries just to get my reticle over the enemy. :P I ONLY played console games previous to my playing PC titles, so I know the differences. I also tried CoD4, and on the PC, I don't worry about claiming my headshots (i.e. unless I use the M4 or G36c to spray) but in the console version, I rarely if ever got a headshot. Like anything, I will work at it. :) I just wish the mouse+kb support would be something they could work on.

Hell, even a "pad" like those RTS gaming pads would be fine. Small, efficient and does what you want it to do (programmable button).

My console only has one USB port, but Rock Band came with a USB 2.0 powereed hub, will other devices work using this?

Thanks for the input guys

c) So, I looked around and found a couple Ethernet to Wireless bridges...the funny thing? They are about 100$, and most are used on ebay. I guess I am s.o.l. :(

I ran a smaller length of CAT5e to help clean up the mess, but since we are selling the house in the near future, I figure I'll simply arrange my next system setup in the new house to include the x360 within the next room, or along the same baseboards.

Oh, and I did tons of research into getting XVID files to play over WMC Vista 64bit...for anyone out there, do not try it. It will not be worth your time. Even if you do accomplish to run the content through Windows Media Center, the 3rd party software (FFDShow and Media Control plugin) tends to crash randomly (too much tweaking involved). Once you accomplish the bug removal, there's always the problem of running the stream from your WMC to your x360.

What I ended up doing, which saved me TONS of headaches, is share my library through WMP11 and do manual runs from the Media dashboard menu. Again, for those with the 64bit version, and even the 32bit version I hear there are issues, get your movies to work in WMP11 and run them manually from your x360.

c) 100$ for w.lan access? Seriously? My god. Are there 3rd party adapters (i.e. usb adapter) that will work? Wow...I guess I'll stick with my 50ft CAT5e running the baseboards, across the hallway and down into the living room. :)

gamer26690

you can get ones that put into the ethernet port that fool the 360 into thinking its wired my friend had one it was a netgear brand i think

Oooh, excellent idea. :) Thank you very much for that! :)

Silver can play Lost Planet colonies and Shadow Run online but everything else gold is required as far as fps rts they are designed for the system so no BUT those two above you can play with your wife over the computer while she uses the 360 (you buy the game twice for two different systems though).IvanElk

Those two games are those crossplatform games I read about months ago. I think it's an awesome and interesting idea, I'm just hesitant to see the rampant problems cross-platforming, especially when dealing with PC gaming hardware vs compatibility. Have you tried either of the two yourself? Anyone else play crossplatform.

Oh, and I doubt she'll play those with me. :) I used to play LOTR BFME on our LAN with her. 2 vs. the AI :) And once, I played 1vs1 on Call of Duty UO. She actually pinned me out once with an extremely long range sniper headshot....now that I think about it, that was kind of hot. ;)
