I was under the impression that, since the game will take place in the Andromeda galaxy which is 2.5 million light years away, even with Mass Relays and FTL travel it would take a prolonged period of time (600 years with cryo-stasis to survive) to arrive. If we assume that the protagonists left before the whole Reaper incident (which I hope is the case), then we'll still have a collaboration of the established alien races, except they'll have no knowledge of the Reapers, beyond the rumor and myth. I just hope they don't blow it like with Inquisition and give me an unnecessary open world that didn't really need to exist, and didn't add much to the game that wasn't done better in Origins. I hope it's good. I loved Mass Effect.

For example, the games within the GTA III Era all share canon, with interconnecting storylines.
