The woman in the trailer was not Ryder's mother, however.

The new Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer released this week was narrated by main character Ryder's father, it's been revealed. Creative director Mac Walters confirmed this on Twitter in response to someone's question.

Ryder's father, whose name has not been disclosed, spoke about the mysterious "Andromeda Initiative," the exact nature of which has not been confirmed.

"The time has come to prepare ourselves for a future beyond the Milky Way; a future that begins 600 years from where we stand, in a time and a place among unknown stars and unseen dangers," Ryder's father says. You can re-watch the trailer in the video embed above.

Some have been wondering about the 600 years remark. Is Andromeda set 600 years after Mass Effect 3? Someone asked this to producer Michael Gamble on Twitter, but didn't give anything away. "We said 600 years...but from when?" he said. "That, we did not say :)"

Another mystery is what exactly the Andromeda Initiative is, though we know it's something players will be able to sign up for. Gamble didn't share any specifics, but teased that he plans to sign up for it because he "know[s] what's in it for those who do..."

You can sign up to learn more about the Andromeda Initiative at its website. The site references "special training opportunities," which could be a reference to a beta, though this is not confirmed.

Walters, Andromeda's creative director, was also asked if one of the characters shown in the video was Ryder's mother. That wasn't her, he confirmed in another tweet. BioWare will share more details on who this woman is on November 7, which is known as N7 Day to fans of the spacefaring RPG series.

You can play as either a male or female Ryder. They are brother and sister, and both exist in the game world at the same time. "So if you're playing as the sister--the female Ryder--your brother is somewhere in the universe," Walters said earlier this year.

Andromeda is due out before the end of March 2017. The game is shaping up well right now, according to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, but the publisher could delay the game if it feels that's the right thing to do.

After planning to launch the game in 2016, EA delayed Andromeda, only saying it would now be released during its fourth fiscal quarter, which spans January through March. Earlier this year, a delay until "early 2017" was confirmed by BioWare, explaining that it "need[s] the right amount of time to make sure [it] deliver[s] everything the game can be and should be."

An Amazon listing for an Andromeda tie-in art book suggested the game might launch on March 21.
