Yes but either way you have to pause the game.

If you put things on the tablet that you would normally have to pause the game for you still have to pause the game to access them and not get killed in your game.

If you're fighting a boss and you need to switch from arrows to bombs or maybe a health potion in the "conventional" way you would pause the game, grab whatever you need, and then unpause and use what you just grabbed.

With the tablet you would look down, pick what you needed look back up, oh no boss killed you dead. It's like how the game pauses itself in games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age when you swap weapons, they know that whatever is on it's way to kill you will kill you when you switch.

As far as just being easier to flip through I go back to Pokemon and the stylus control with everything during battle. It's an extra step that most people will not want to go through

I think you underestimate basic human dexterity.

is not that hard to look down on a pad for a moment, specially if managing your stuff is gonna be much faster. If you were playing fable, and you were lost, it would be nice to just look down, draw, and store it.Honestly looking down and up is not a biggie in many situations. Not all games are like "oh wow i stopped moving im dead "you know. The concept is definitively there, for rpgs, and if you cant see the oportunities im at a loss of words.

[QUOTE="intro94"]No, because now that the system is disclosed, they can use all sorts of media and tv to inform the actual consumers(not the relatively few e3 viewers) about the system features and most importantly, their games. It might come just a bit after e3 at some point, but is not mandatory. I think 3ds was disclosed just past e3 and launched before this one, and i think that was a sample of their most recent strategy. E3 can be used to disclose some key new games to boost sales but is not really necessary. It is important for nintendo not to lose sales of 3rd party software due to a delayed launch, because if they do pull back their support, the wiiu will lose a huge chunk of its momentum. GabuEx

Yeah, but how much explanation did the 3DS need? "It's the DS, only it has 3D." Done. When they unveiled the Wii they did the exact same thing as I described: they showed off the controller in 2005, and then the console as a whole in 2006. I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same thing here.

Actually the wiiu does not need much more explanation than wii did. Its a screen, nintendo wants third party to figure it out-we all know the motion side. They explained the demos were to give ideas to developers(so i doubt they will carry their hand another time). I dont even think they liked to delay the wii like they did-as i believe it had more to do with external factors(launching a year later with graphics that couldnt match the already existent system!).And , as matter of fact, the wii u e3 had a lot more to do with 2006´s e3 than 2005´s.Tech demos and third party games, things absent from the nearly barebones controller exhibit. So this whole thing leads to more conclussive evidence, theres no need for another e3 prior to launch.

[QUOTE="intro94"]I[QUOTE="ngrodamus"] I am beginning a chant of "May 2012, May 2012"!!! Although November makes an overwhelming amount of sense. But in this day and age there seems to be a larger sense of urgency with technology. And now with all the systems clamoring for the "casual" gamer market, Nintendo will have greater pressure to get the Wii U in the hands of consumers before the next E3 where the 360 and PS3 will surely be showing off similar technologies to say "we can do that too!" GabuEx

vote for may. Why? December is WAY too late for some of their announced games. Like Arkham City.It cant come that much later, its just too much of a loss for third party developers, currently the main Wii U supporters. So the situation is a bit different, as Wii had no ties with third party supporters so it was in no need to launch at a different date. But WE KNOW nintendo is trying HARD to catter hardcore players and the worst way to bring some back is by launching their desired games a year later.

I really don't think there's any way this is coming out before E3 of 2012. They spent this E3 showcasing the controller, but not so much showing what the console itself can do. It makes sense that next E3 will be dedicated to that, and then the console will finally be released later that year. Releasing the console while so many people are still either going "huh?" or are skeptical would be a disaster.

[QUOTE="intro94"]Its a comparative advantage.Jaysonguy

So you think you gain an advantage having to look away from your game to see how much health you have or if you need to reload?

nah you still dont get it. Its a comparative advantage to have a separate screen where you can check miscelaneous stuff on the go, and interact with it in a direct way rather than scrolling with the analogs. For example, having a separate map on the touchscreen where you can easily pin point-draw routes and so forth desired locations or manage runes and properties of your heroes on the fly, without even having to pause the game as you are forced in other conventional games. Definitively, an advantage right there, the flow is more natural. I dont know, have you heard of the ds? You dont use the bottom screen to see your health or ammo...

To elaborate, with ipads is pretty easy to manage menus using your fingers, and much faster than using the sticks to move up and down. modern RPGS, that have hefty amounts of choices are managed faster that way, and this is a genuine benefit. The process of managing goes down much faster and at the same time you dont have to do the obnovious traditional pause to stop and resume (unless you really want to). Lost magic, a Ds game ,its a great example. The touch screen is perfect for drawing, which is half of he gameplay, and impossible otherwise or convoluted with regular controls(didnt work so good for the wii spiritual sequel). But you can see the action seamlessly on the top screen.

[QUOTE="Sgt_Crow"][QUOTE="starwarsjunky"]wii gets a sub-par port of a generic shooter past its prime. should i be excited about this??WreckEm711
How do you know it's sub-par? Because it doesn't have shiny graphics...?

Have you ever actually played one of them? Black ops had entire gameplay segments cut out, not to mention modes and features, plus a ton more loads screens

i played and hell, i own them. And it still rocks with the controls and offers more options than games like Goldeneye(which i own as well) and Conduit. This stripped down multiplat shooter offers more than exclusive shooters in content, and replayability, hence ,they represent the best you can find on the wii for shooters(and sales back this up entirely). The biggest loss are the graphics, but cant blame them, its the wii.

I don't see any reason to move things like menus or health bars on to the controller. They work perfectly well on the main screen.meetroid8
think most games ,old ones, pretty much you to stop the action right there, to avoid screen clutter. Its obviously simpler to treat the tablet as a virtual pouch and minimizing the "pauses"involved in many current rpgs.Obvious oportunity here. You are thinking in terms of past when you got a modern tool.Like using horses to drag a car. They can work perfectly, but it isnt doing it right. I do preffer to have the main screen as free of bars and buttons as possible, and plenty of ds games streamlined the action thanks to a secondary screen for menus. Its a comparative advantage.

IIm gonna be brutal here. When wii launched, it could NOT even port or run properly some LAST GEN console games, due to graphics. Nothing near Doom 3 was shown at launch, much less Half Life 2, Xbox games. And Lets not even mention Far Cry , shall we? Wii was really too constrained. WII U, pre launch ,can run games like the upcoming metro(the graphical benchmark of some pc gamers), IN WEEKS. Wii U has so little trouble running current engines , its something that can be prepped on the fly. Its a different situation.

My fear is that the thread creator is totally right. The timing is wrong, wiiU should have been released when PS3 was released. When PS4 comes out its gona have much better hardware, which is normal becouse it will come out 2 years later, and thee wii U will become the new Dreamcast :(. but im hoping this wont happen :)i_vitali
are you insane?Wiii u is reported to be have twice the power of ps3.-how do you even picture that years ago and still keep it sub 300?No, Wii specs were really small.Graphics are defined by the most popular console. Thats why gamecube had to settle with PS2 ports, a system with half its power. There was a huge inmense gap between xbox and ps2.But since ps2 was already so popular gamers had to settle for that. The power of Wii U is pretty decent.By mere logic you will always want to launch your consoles AFTER the competition then, to play catch up and add more graphical power. But thats a losing strategy. Nintendo is confident their system will keep up with the next gen and have no third party problems as the wii had ,in terms of MULTIPLATS(exclusive is what it had ).Iwata stated it himself, WIi U is prepared for the upcoming gen(NOT the ps3 gen).

[QUOTE="aroxx_ab"] In the history of handheld gaming it has never been about power. All the competitors during the decade of Gameboy dominance had several times the power, and the same story repeated for the GBA,and DS... It never changes. Is important, but its all about the games. For raw power i guess the iphone5 would be in order? Not saying vita has no games or wont have ,but if it doesnt get many compelling titles, it

[QUOTE="tormentos"][QUOTE="intro94"]Dont know if it was posted but its likely that 3ds will see a drop by Vitas launch, by mere logic. So it wont be even, 3ds is gonna STILL be 3d and has Mario which sold like what?20 million copies on the DS alone(i mean THAT ONE 2d GAME), and around 6 million of the Mario 64 REMAKE at it?uh yeah. Not sure about vita really doing the stompage. Not to mention DS was farther from PSP in graphics and it sold like 2 to 1 due to bunch of factors. Just trying to connect the dots here.I mean,im getting a 3ds and I certainly would get a Vita if it had the ample 3rd party support, something that did not happen to PSP(it even had less FPS than the ds for crying out loud). nitekids2004

Thats nothing Mario Kart Wii sold 25 million and the wii has allot less millions units sold than the DS,Mario is Nintendo dude you will not find 3rd party games outselling a Nintendo game ever,Nintendo's games always sell great even on low selling consoles like the GC or N64,Mario 64 sold several million units as well. Logic tell me that NIntendo doesn't like price wars, they know that even if their system loose they will still make a ton of cash.

They can't afford price wars to be exact. Unlike Sony and Microsoft,Ninty's main business lineis videogames.

tormentos, its true Mario kart wii sold around 20 millions(it STILL sells pretty good), but Mario Kart DS sold even more i believe. They CAN afford price wars to some extent, look at the nintendo ds price cuts over and over, and obviously look at the wii price cuts. One of the reason they can, is that, yes, they cant draw money from their other businesses, they only do gaming, but they ALWAYS turns profits at what they do best, something the competition didnt for some years. They do it right and when technlogy gets cheaper, they follow.
