@CarlitosWay No clue. I guess it is a matter of what is on the plate right now... meaning that maybe the R4s are a bigger problem for all those 49 developers compared to other devices.

@CarlitosWay Indeed. It is funny that I do remember some of the bands/artists in the Napster incident, but for most people Metallica (again Lars Ulrich) was the face of that whole incident.

The same will happenwith this news. People will remember Nintendo vs R4 instead of 49 Japanese Software developers vs R4. ;)

@CarlitosWay Having an opinion and voicing it is a great thing and I applaud those who do it the right way.... and by no means my comment to you was acting as a show stopper.

I do not think Nintendo will change at all regarding some of its policies even if something like the Xbox One were to happen. A good example is their Region Lock policy... people have made petitions (I joined one myself recently), writings, videos, songs, formal complaints, etc, and still Nintendo refuses to let it go.... why? because deep down they believe in their business model (whether is good or bad for the consumers), and they believe is working for them.

If I have to put it politely, I will say most consumers do not know what they want when it comes to goods and services; therefore, their opinions get easily flip flop due to the mob or the loud ones... most companies know this (including Nintendo), and that is why most of the time they refuse to listen the static white noise coming the outcries.

@CarlitosWay I see what you are saying, and I respect your opinion. But, you have to remember It is their product and if they feel that the value for those items can hold (no matter the years), then there is nothing we consumers can do about... well vote with our wallets ;).

Game depreciation is a subject that for many people it is not the same or not define at all.

For some, a 1+ year game should priced at a much lower point than a game that was just released. Others, only buy games at a much cheaper price a month+ after that same game was released because they now the value will not hold. Many put value according to quality and/or amount of content in the game. Some feel the digital version of a game should be cheaper than the physical one... and so on.

In the end, i
t all boils down to personal choices and priorities when it comes to this topic.

For some reason this reminds me of the whole Metallica aka Lars Ulrich (more artists) vs Napster.

@Zacmaccraken lol because Nintendo is the only one in this list lol.

If we go with your logic most of the software developers on that list should die too.

@DiamondDM13 It is a bit harsh opinion, but trust me this is not the first nor the last of things like this happen..... ask old school Nintendo and Sega gamers and they can tell you many time this sort of things happened.

Besides, not to rub this in your face or trying to be offensive, but that game was cancelled by SEGA since they did not have the funds for it. Trust me, Nintendo did not save the series out of altruism, but it was a brilliant move and hopefully it pays off for Platinum Games.

@bigruss51 While you have a spot on point about Nintendo's investment practices and interests, I think you are forgetting that Nintendo does not have the same resources and other sectors/branches like Microsoft or Sony. What mean is that there is a high chance that Nintendo is really careful when it comes to their R&D department, meaning that there is a high percentage that they have very few chances to research and decided what is the next step for them (both home and mobile consoles). Contrary to popular believe this does not translate that they do not put thought on the console(s).

Think about it this way: Nintendo tried to go for the whole "better specs = better console" in the past to compete, but that not always have worked to their favor (due to many factors... same can be said about innovation and trying different ideas), since in the end the software is what makes the console enticing. On the other hand, they have been doing great with their mobile devices approach (hardware wise).

I think there is a different idea/understanding about what competition and/or generation means for many (not saying one is right or wrong). IMO, a system does not have to be on par (specs wise) with the rest of the other competitors in order to compete; it is what it can offer (software usually) to the users that makes the system a contender in the race.

@bluespire1 I know it is your opinion, but 149.99 is a bit of an extreme price cut in the first year of the console.... do not know if you were talking about USD, CAD, Euros, GBP, etc.

Currently the Wii (the red mini version) is selling around $99 (in my region); so, according with your opinion, that means for you the WiiU is only worth $50 more that the Wii and $20-$50 less than the 3DS(XL).

It took a while (probably mid-late 2011 or early 2012) for the Wii to get at that price and under (at least in my region).... a good 5 years. So, I will assume that it will be quite a while for the WiiU to be price at that point.
