You buy a new game at $60, sell it a week later to GS for $40, Game stop sells it for a max $55, less if it sits on the shelf for months. Max profit for them is $15. That $15 has to cover overhead, payroll, advertising etc. They warrant the game and offer 7 day no questions asked money back guarantee. I cant tell you how many used games Ive bought, took home played and it sucked so bad I returned it for a full refund, Aliens colonial marines comes to mind. The consumer who got the $40 for his week or two old game is the one making the most money. Consumers are the ones who are gonna get the shaft.
@Acekidder @AggrandizedUser It will if the transaction is person to person sale or trade. If I trade games with a friend, there will have to be a way to activate the game on my system. MS will charge consumers if you remove Gamestop from the equation.
But how much profit is actually in the used game market, especially for new releases. You buy a new release for $60 play it a week, sell it for $40. You have only spent $20 for the experience. Game stop sells it for $55, thats a $15 profit to cover overhead and business expenses. Now if they have to split that $15 three ways between MS, the developer and themselves they wont be making enough to stay in business. Then if the game sits on the shelf for a few months they sell it for $45 or $50 they arent making squat considering cost of business. Its the gamer that makes the most off used sales.
I just finished it and have to say its the best one yet. 343 did a great job, I felt a real sense of heartache at the end. I hope the next one is much darker.
