It looks perfect for a replica colectioner like me, and it's quite cheap for all the portal and valve logo and the game an stuff...

I always thought the Portal Gun was like Megaman's megabuster, so your whole arm goes inside the gun. I guess I thought wrong.

I'm not rich or anything, but I don't understand people complaining of the $100 release price. Only 5,000 made and is a replica of an in-game item seems worth it to me, there are plastic gun replicas that are more expensive yet more common than this.

This video would have been a lot less fantastic without the British accented commentary.

As a self-proclaimed environmentalist, can it be recycled once I'm finished with it?

If this is "the most exciting package ever to grace the GameSpot UK office" thats pretty sad.

I think it would have been alot cooler if it was a flash light that you could shine on the wall and get a blue and orange looking light on a wall..then it would be cooler

It doesn't create real portals, I heard one of them say, Nooooooo really?

A 100$ for a replica gun that has no use, how exciting.

It would have been worth the cost if they made a portal kinect and the controller was the portal gun. That would have been great.

Can't shoot portals?! Damn

If they had managed to stuff a wireless controller in there for Portal....I would definitely buy it.

I knew they would play with it after the camera went off. Next thing they'll find the suits f the characters who have the portal gun.

It really is a cool replica. It would be a cool to create Portal movies with the replica, but I wouldn't want to really add in the sounds unless it was a $20 kids toy, not saying it is, though. I would seriously want this so much!!

$100 dollars for 10 minutes of entertainment & a potential Halloween costume? Eh. I'd only buy it if my intentions were to put it on ebay.

I'm so sorry. The toy gun thing is really cool, it's well worth $100 and there are no starving kids in Africa. Carry On.

oh look at my great big lame torch that I paid $100 for while kids starve in Africa. Very cool.

Why don't you cancel your internet, and send that money you saved to Africa? Hypocrite.

marco1k1

@BunX23 What a ridiculous point, its one of the things you should thank yourself lucky for being born in the country you were, the ability to spend on things you enjoy or want even if someone else thinks it worthless, as well as if it isn't essential but rather entertaining. If we all decided to put aside our own money for everyone in Africa we wouldn't have any to spend on the things we enjoy and in the long-run it probably wouldn't help them out either, In today's society and for a very long time we have lived to entertain ourselves and if someone wants to buy a fake game gun to do so, that's their choice and you shouldn't guilt trip them for it.

But I agree that I wouldn't buy it, I just don't love the series THAT much.

@BunX23 I never thought I would see a 'starving kids in Africa' comment on here. Way to incorporate one tangent into a completely separate one.

Cillah187
Cillah187

@BunX23 Oh my God, dude. You missed the bloody point. The point of our replies to your other post is that you are most likely a person who has spent hundreds of dollars on games, and then you are spazzing out over people spending $100 for a replica, and saying that there are starving kids in Africa. When I have proof you have done anything to help the kids, I'll leave you alone. Until then, shut the hell up and keep to yourself.

Sinisevil

@BunX23 You have to be kidding! I have nothing against kids in Africa, but you are using them to make the world believe you are a good person. People buy game systems, cool cars, great furniture, portraits, and other things that are worth even more than $100. You have to be joking!

@BunX23 are you like, 12 or something? do you notice yourself saying that? I bet you own games, of course you do your a snotty 12 year old that plays hyper-active wii games...

Cillah187
Cillah187

@BunX23 Are you serious? What about all your games you buy? What about the worthless time you spend on here typing worthless comments instead of actually helping the kids yourself? Don't pretend you are better than anyone else here, because you aren't.

@BunX23 You could say something similar about your consoles or any of your games.

100$ can buy me much more than your "portal porn", get a grip..

@MrWhalo, ever heard of sarcasm?

BunX23
BunX23

@Cillah187 learn to argue. Spending money on quaity well made games is not the same thing as wasting it on oversized novelty torches. And who is spazzing out here? Get a grip.

BunX23
BunX23

@Sinisevil, I never said I was a good person. I never said I was better or morally superior to anyone. I was using sarcasm to suggest that this item is a waste of money, that is all. I'm sorry people have got so upset about my opinion, but it is something we are all entitled to. And on a personal note, I have spent many hours working for local charities and have given up my time and money to those less fortunate than myself on many occasions. That doesn't make me a better person than any of y'all, it's just something I do. peace.

Btw I love portal too...finished the first one in 5 hours straight, couldn't stop until it was done. Haven't found the time to try out Nr 2, but planning to.

Lucasdxx

Uh....wouldn't a collectors edition of the "real", and most important, functioning game be a much more representative piece of gaming history.

I personally find it to be a useless piece of plastic, and anything you might say will not change my mind.

fox-orian
fox-orian

@Lucasdxx Uh.. it's a replica collector's item? That's the point of a replica. It's to collect and adore. Kinda like a collectable replica sword -- looks nearly as good as having the real thing, but useless in actual practice. If you got the expendable income, and love Portal, I think it's a fun physical piece of gaming history.

Shawn45
Shawn45

 @BunX23  @Cillah187

Who cares if the games are of a high quality? While you're sitting in your nice Air conditioned living room (a thing starving kids in Africa don't have), enjoying your high quality video game (a thing staring kids in Africa don't have), perhaps having a nice cold glass of water or your other favorite beverage (a thing starving kids in Africa don't have), you are still not spending your money to help starving kids in Africa.

The moral high ground doesn't work at all when it comes to video games - a luxury that starving kids in Africa will probably never experience.

1nitram2
1nitram2

@BunX23 You give your money to the starving kids in Africa, and other choose to buy the portal gun if they like and want it. I sort of doubt that you give all your extra money away to the kids in Africa, most people like you turn out to be hypocrits, but go you. Everyone has the choice to spend their money how they want, and judging if it is a waste or not is not up to you. What you think is a waste, might be a treasure to someone else. ;)

BunX23
BunX23

@Leir_Bag, so unless you live in a cave and own no possessions, any work you do for charities is nullified? I know children with more solid reasoning skills and a better grip on reality than that.

Leir_Bag
Leir_Bag

@BunX23 No, it is strongly hypocritical, because you didn't blame us for not giving stuff to charity, you blamed us for spending lots of money on unnecessary things.  You can give your soul to charity and you still will be a hypocrite, because pretty much 70% of the things you fo or have are not necessary for living. Go live on a cave eating nothing but pure bread and then come here and call us whatever you want.

BunX23
BunX23

@fox-orian, read it however you want. Making a sarcastic comment is not hypocritical, given the fact I actually do give to charity and I wouldn't dream of buying this particular product. I made no other assertions.

fox-orian
fox-orian

@BunX23 There are much more tasteful (and less hypocritical) ways to imply that this is a waste of money other than using starving children in third-world countries to get your point across. Know that when you make comments like that, you're implying things about yourself whether you meant to or not.

 @BunX23

BunX23 I am a starving child from africa.  Your last check bounced and now my home is gone and my belly is empty.  Please sell your belongings and send the money to me right away.  I need it to help a friend of mine who is a NIgerian prince and once we reclaim his inheritance you and I can split it.  Then we can both have Portal Guns.
