Let's think about this. With virtually no 1st-party launch titles except a Super Mario retread and a not-as-good-as-Wii-Sports Nintendoland, Nintendo has still sold 3.5 million units. Below their initial estimates of 5.5 million, but still. Imagine the sales next holiday season when they've got 2 new Zelda's, plenty of new 3rd-party titles and a 3D Mario and Metroid probably on the way. I'm telling you, by May 2014, they will have sold at least 10 million, if not 15. It's just math and history.

I'll remind y'all of this conversation in a year, when a similar announcement is made for the WiiU. :)

Never bet against Nintendo. WiiU will rise again and be a huge hit by this time next year.

...said the socialist half-wit. That's the attitude that's destroying economies all over the world.

Okay, I'll give you The Last of Us, but dude, Quantic Dream is not a Sony studio. (Is it? I don't think so, the last time I checked.). Personally, I'm willing to bet that Retro Studios' upcoming, unannounced title will be on par with those two games, but of course that's pure speculation.

Anyway, glad you acknowledge that Nintendo is not alone in rehashing old IP. I personally think they do it better than anyone and would rather play the next Zelda title over any mindless shoot-em-up Hero's Duty or whatever. Guess it's my nostalgic nature.

@carolynmichelle @Willy105 The point is, they're ignoring 3rd-party titles! If you want to only look at IP owned by Nintendo, you have to compare it to IP owned only by Microsoft or Sony. I can't think of a single title for each of those. Microsoft publishes Halo, but doesn't develop it, and it first came out 12 years ago (same as Pikmin, which IS developed by Nintendo!). And Sony? Virtually nothing original or even vaguely interesting.

It's stupid to complain about this as if Nintendo is in a vacuum with no 3rd-party games and no way to compare to the other console makers. Both assumptions are false, so the complaint is completely invalid.

Dang, I had a huge, awesome rant all written out and then the page refreshed! Arrrgh!

Well, here's the gist: Of the big 3 hardware makers, Nintendo is the only one that actually develops their own games! What IP do Sony and Microsoft have? Sony has a couple of studios doing sports and singing games and Microsoft doesn't even develop Halo for f--k's sake.

The problem seems to boil down to the fact that when Nintendo makes announcements, they only talk about their own games. When Sony or MS make announcements, they talk about 3rd-party games. So it seems like the other two have much more variety, when in fact Nintendo has just as much variety in the form of 3rd-party games, but when they do their own, they're going to stick to their big franchises. That's not too surprising. It's like Nintendo's job is to use their IP to show everyone else how best to do games on their platform, but it's up to 3rd-parties to come up with crazy new games.

Bottom line: it's stupid, unfair and inaccurate to bash Nintendo on this point and not bring up the fact that the other two console makers make virtually NO games of their own. But stupid, unfair and inaccurate are par for the course for Tom Shea. He never passes up a chance to bash Nintendo. Not a surprise at all to me.

Not a very PC comment in this time of low-information voters, prima donnas, moochers, looters and outright socialists. What, you expect me to actually work and actually be good at what I do to get paid more??? You owe me, Jaffe, just by virtue of you being rich and my existing, taking up space and air and stuff. Obama said so! Waaa... Mommy, make me a sandwich and tell me how good I am and tell the bad man to pay me more...

First the Leaf and now toothpaste. I think with each cross-promotion they add to SimCity, the EA chiefs reserve their spots in a lower and lower circle of hell.
