What do you need it for actually? Also, you can't tell us to not list the obvious ones, b/c that's purely subjective. Anyway, here are some:

Okami (GC/wii/ps3 released soon)

Wind Waker - zelda (GC)

Killer 7 (GC)

Paper mario - original and thousand year door (N64 and GC) - although these aren't cell shaded, they do have a unique 2d artstyle

Borderlands....Tales series...

That's what comes to mind now. What stands out, if I can narrow it down, are windwaker, and okami. Great games

Nice thread. It depends for me, it depends on the season. During summer I'm definitely working out and doing editing/3danimation/sfx, but during the school year (just starting 2 weeks go) im studying, studying, studying. In fact, my taste in games changes as well. During the summer I like games that are just pure gameplay (something to engage my mind in). However, during the school year, I like games where I can just lay back a bit and/or are just mindless- either games heavy on cinematics/story or mesmerizing games (like dyad, where instinct becomes second nature). I think this is b/c my mind is tired from studying, so I prefer games that are mindless.

Agreed, I'm really enjoying it. It's actually making me want to try ghost recon Future soldier for the consoles.

I'm actually usually a COD player, but I didn't realize how much I like tactical shooters like GR. I use to play the series on the original xbox on xbl along time ago but there were too many campers. There are campers in this game as well, but only due to certain classes having that specific play style (i.e., the recon class). The 2 other classes have to press forward b/c of the gameplay modes, which pretty much involve capturing all the bases. I used to play Halo 2 for the orignal xbox (duh) also and the King of the hill game mode wasn't as fun as the GRO modes b/c at least in the GRO modes you have cover at the base locations, which makes it strategic for a shooter.

I say give it a try as well. The only downside to this game are the lack of maps (there are 4 or 5 total now) and the long match making. The long match making is actually not as bad as it sounds, b/c while the network is looking for a game for you you can equip/check out equipment, do some equipment shopping, and even chat. It takes up to 4 mins (as designated by the timer clock) sometimes to check for a game, but by that time I already finished tweaking my character equipment so I don't notice it.

It's also FREE to play. If you're a GR player it's worth checking out.

Like what people suggested before me, it's b/c you can't do it in real life.

Killing, playing pro sports, hurting/killing yourself or almost killing yourself (ie.: Persona 3, ragdoll-physics games, crashing cars in GTA while bailing at the last moment), flying (parachuting, flying jets/planes), and so on. Oh, and being Batman. You can always be yourself (Oblivion/skyrim), except when you can be batman, be batman.

Going on a tangent here - I disagree with monkey's statement about COD though - first of all, that was a bad example of retreading - COD is too new to be a game to have been "retreading".

MonkeySpot

CoD? I've been playing that series since 2004.

It's FAR from a "new series". They've been grunting them out for almost a decade, a "new" one every YEAR. Where the Hell have YOU been? :?

As far as anyone "getting off CoD's back", I'm a FAN OF THE SERIES. Check my post history before you accuse me of ANYTHING. As a FAN, I feel that I CAN level the critique against a series for which I have EVERY game issued, on my shelf, played through SEVERAL times. They haven't done ANYTHING new with the game since "Finest Hour". And before you jump my **** with your BS about MW "inovating" the MP "experience", I'm talking about the ACTUAL game, not the MP add-on. **** MP. **** it in the ***.

Reading Comprehension - LOOK INTO IT.

*facepalms* *clinches bridge of nose with opposing fingers*

First off, you're comparing COD4 and after (2007 and after) (which was a HUGE departure from the series in terms of mp mechanics and sp presentation) to hd-remade games such as onimusha (2001)? That's what I meant by not even being close to "retreading", which you alluded HD-remakes to be. COD has had many innovations since 2007 that most other games have copied (i.e.: online level-up system and perks) that are more recent than the innovative "finest hour". You didn't seem to even read my entire post either, in which i said the TRUE Cod games come from IW every OTHER year - it's called READING - look into it maybe?

2nd, I'm not even accusing you of anything, BUT HONESTLY MAYBE I SHOULD, b/c you sound super guilty in that last post, trying to desperately prove that you play COD and all - when I don't really care if you do or not.

3rd, you are BLIND if you fail to see how cod has innovated the FPS MP genre. Yes, people hate it (I only specifically hate the treyarch games, which have such a terrible gunplay feel - ie, bad hit detection, low framespersecond, unbalanced), but everyone loved COD4.

Son, you better get your act together, cuz it's falling apart. I won't be looking back at this thread again either, but here's some future advice - when someone critques your comment, he/she is not accusing you of anything - only making a critical analysis of it. Use your head, bud.

Interesting, I've never heard an opinion against remakes before. I guess I could see how it could be annoying if you still owned the old games, but I think it's the nostalgia of playing a great game that has been remastered in it's looks that makes remakes so fun.

Also, I would definatly want an Onimusha collection, along with a Star Wars Battlefront collection, as some people mentioned already.

Chaos_Bladez

I just think it's a sign of the times. People would rather have a re-tread. Look at CoD. Same game, different box. We are becoming the brain-dead, paste-eating, Soma-dulled robots of Orwell's imagined future. We're the batteries in "The Matrix".

:|

I think it's great for people who missed games like "Beyond Good & Evil" who're too hung up on their HD tvs to play it unless it fits their shiny new equipment - Because God-Forbid you play something that doesn't support cinema aspect ratios and pixel counts - And I would never tell another gamer how to spend their time or money. But making most HD ports is nothing but a shameless grab for cash on a title (or titles) which have already sold through once and paid for themselves.

RE4 is a shining example. The Silent Hill "collection" is a grand example of how they ****ed something up in the process of porting it so badly that they're hardly recognizable, filled with glitches, burps, and issues the original copies never had...

For those who are getting a chance to play some of these titles they missed on their native consoles & formatting (God of War, Devil May Cry, Beyond Good & Evil), and this is their only option, I'm happy for them. But Lawd help you if things like "Silent Hill Collection" are your only option for getting the experience of those landmark games, because in that case, you REALLY missed out.

Not judging anyone who's got their thumbs on the sticks, but I AM casting a suspicious, and hateful eye at the industry.

As always, Respect to all my fellow gamers.

A controversial view there, Monkey. I think they are great. It gives them more time in the light and it allows for people who've played them to relive the nostalgia in a higher definition. We are getting new games too, so I don't think to we are in too much of a rut. Just the fact of having it on a console I have is a good reason. There are a couple stinkers, but most of them are the best versions.

Agree with Chaos - it gives a chance for people to experience "the classics". The idea of HD remakes is far and away from being cash-ins. Not only are companies paying 3rd party devs to remaster their games in HD, but the profit they're making off these HD games (what is it - 12 bucks avg per hd remake?) is very minimal. Yeah, they're making a profit, but not much. Most of these remakes are done not only for fan service, but also to get their respective platforms (XBL, PSN) an extra boost in popularity.

NOW, what monkey wants to be suspicious about is for game-reviewing sites. I think almost all sites are paid by devs to give the dev's games a good review. Yes, that includes this site, gametrailers, and IGN. Not sure about 1up or giantbomb, but the above mentioned ones are definitely a must. Examples? Easy: FF13, LA noire, MGS4.

Going on a tangent here - I disagree with monkey's statement about COD though - first of all, that was a bad example of retreading - COD is too new to be a game to have been "retreading". 2nd of all, people need to get off COD's back. If anyone knows anything about COD games, they should know they are made by diff companies every other year, and that only the IW games are the good ones. This is comign from someone who is not only a fan of IW's COD, but also a lifelong gamer who sees games for what they are at the programming/gameplay design level (name any other console FPS with quicker/seamless matchmaking, loading, smoother framespersecond, and more gratifying gunplay than cod - yeah, I though so).

The linearity argument always boggles my mind; FFX was a corridor and nobody seemed to mind.

DarthJohnova

That's a good point, but although there is a succesion of areas in FFX, you can still roam around more freely than in FF13. In FF13, players were literally confined to walkways sometimes. It's ridiculous. Also, FFX's story, characters, environments, battlesystem, and music were above and beyond what FF13 had to offer, making the linearity of the game forgettable.

Although I agree, and I much preferred X for those reasons, those reasons are also relative and another may have preferred XIII's story, characters, battle system and music. As I always say though; every game is linear in some sense, you still need to get from A to B, defeat a boss and save the day (or not). Some corridors are just wider than others.

You're right in that all games are linear in some form or another. Mind you, widening the corridor makes all the difference.

Going off on a tangent here - for me, what makes a game is how a game comes together to be greater than the sum of its parts - some games just have that something "special". Of course this is purely subjective, but most people can see how games just stand out from the rest. The lastest game that I've played to have that something special would be Xenoblade chronicles - there's something special about the combination of running around in an open grass field, fighting monsters, with a vast landscape (that you can actually explore) in the distance, and great music playing in the background. That is, it's better than the sum of its parts. Bioshock was another game like that. FFX was like that. FF13, for some reason, was not. Although FF13's graphics were superb, the rest of the game was lacking. It did have some special moments, but it's too bad those were only temporary and not long-lasting to define the whole FF13 experience. (FYI, those moments were hopping from rock to rock while the main theme plays in the background, and also finally getting to the open-area near the end of the game).

I'd like a Persona 3&4 collection and a Mark of Kri & Rise of the Kasai collection. Doubt either will happen, though.x-2tha-z

Plus one for the mark of the kri series :) always wanted to play kasai but I read it had alot of bugs in it

It's not that we want the game to suck, it's that it is being made by Fail Enix, so it is confirmed to suck. I'd much rather it be canceled than SE botch FF again. The XIII games are offensively bad and I'd much rather SE go bankrupt than continue to murder the FF series. FF is rolling in its grave.

soundcellx

Final Fantasy XIII HAS been terrible. But Versus looks nothing like it, it's even made by a different team. The only thing similar between the two is they may share some lore and they share a number. You shouldn't hate it because the failure that was XIII.

I was fooled and burned by XIII. I just don't want it to happen again, which is why I do not want to look forward to this game. I do not want my hopes crushed again. FF being ruined almost brings tears to my eyes, literally.

I just don't want to look forward to the game, think it will be great and then it sucks. Also, I am disappointed with the combat and wish ATB turn based would return along with all the other classic traditional FF elements such as world map, airship, sidequests, etc.

I understand where you're coming from, but at least be reasonable of which company you want to fail. SE's last great game was ff12. That's not that long ago, and for the most part that was well recieved. Ff13...yeah that was boring as hell. The graphics was there, but nothing else really. NOW, Rare is the company i want to fail the most, b/c they don't even have the original great devs that founded the company in the first place. But, when I say "fail" the most, I don't even mean that, cuz theere still is some talent there
