I'm looking for a solution to this as well.

And to be clear, this is about articles that auto-play videos.

Please give us some way of disabling these or simply don't auto-play them at all. I click on an article because I want to read an article, not watch a video that's loosely related to it.

Wait until there's some more information.

That said, there's a lot of people who wait until the end of a console's life to buy it along with all the top games that came out on it. The console is cheaper that way and you know exactly what you're buying into. I did this for the DS and bought a bunch of top tier used games on the super cheap. If you're one of those people, yeah buy the machine.

My late-stage DS purchase convinced me to buy the 3DS within a month of launch and it came with full backward compatibility, so I could have avoided buying the DS if I had waited, and still have access to the huge DS library. We don't know if the NX will be backward compatible, which is why I say wait until there's more information. It may be a 6 month wait.

I was with Clinton from the beginning. Lots of my close relatives and friends wanted me to switch to Sanders, and I told them I'd only do so if he can prove himself to be a viable candidate. Even if Sanders won, he'd be an ineffectual president as far as I'm concerned. Hilary Clinton has played this game on a national level for decades and I'm confident she can take charge.

I do want universal health care. I do want free college for students. But I doubt Sanders could ever pull it off.

And Trump is unelectable. He does bring out passion, but he's also brought out passion in his opposition and I know a lot of people that would go to the polls just to vote against him.

@FireEmblem_Man: PR is important, but Reggie isn't fantastic at it. He's serviceable. Reggie's job doing PR can be handled by an actor doing a character like Kevin Butler. Nintendo Direct does more to convey messages to a Western audience than Reggie ever could do by himself.

He's the American face to a Japanese company and they could've picked a better face.

I disagree all over your back and chest.

Reggie is as much the reason for the DS & Wii's success as Orlando Bloom was for the success of Pirates of the Caribbean. He's got all the charisma and warmth of an ATM machine. I don't think he's ever said anything that didn't first go through 5 teams of marketing, PR, and legal firms.

The DS & Wii's success came from being able to find a gaming audience that had been ignored by the gaming industry for decades, whereas now that audience is being serviced by mobile phone, tablets, Facebook and smart TVs. It's nice to think that the Wii U failed because it didn't communicate it was a whole new console (and to a degree it is indeed a factor) but even if the broad target audience knew it was a new device, they still would look at it like an inferior version of their Galaxy Tab.

The core gaming audience had slowly been leaving Nintendo since the PS1, and the Wii wasn't them coming back, it was them being momentarily replaced by the broad audience. The "core gamer hemorrhage" was never fixed. And Reggie never helped in that regard.

Yes, but don't you want to pilot an Arwing in VR?

Star Fox Zero's coming out in a few days, and the review embargo is still in effect. Is this a bad sign?

@Rob__Page: You have a very good point. But to be honest that's already pretty much what the Wii U is (apart from the part about Metroid...). To me, Nintendo always seem to do a good job of not really competing with Microsoft or Sony but rather co-existing with them.

I don't believe that's the case. The Wii U wasn't a minimalist console and it wasn't cheap enough to be an impulse purchase and a companion console. If it was designed for and shipped with a gyro-equipped U Pro controller, then yes it could be considered minimalist. And if it launched at $249 or cheaper, then it could be considered to be a cheap companion console to set on top of your PS4/XBO. But it wasn't.

So you and I will have to disagree on the Wii U being a minimalist companion console or not.

Nice write-up. I agree with most of it because of what we know of the NX.

But if I could start from the beginning, I'd want Nintendo to make an absolute minimalist no-frills console that can launch for $199 US. As long as it's marketed as a companion console instead of some replacement/competition to Sony/Microsoft consoles, people could buy one on impulse just for one particular Nintendo game they really want.

It's not a graphical powerhouse, but it doesn't need to be. It's just cheap enough that you bought it because it was payday today and Metroid was announced. That's all it took.
