This thought occurred to me a few days ago as I reflected on my own gaming through the years. I know I've been gaming ever since the Atari console and Atari/Commadore computers ruled the day and that it was my dad who got me hooked on it all. Now I'm 29, married, have a toddler running loose, mortgage, car-payments, etc... that adds up to little money and little time to game. Despite all this, I still feel as adamant about gaming as I did when I was little. And even though gaming continues to skyrocket in terms of cost, I'm quite certain I will never "grow out of" gaming. Has anyone else even made this connection or felt the same way? I'm curious since I remember back in the 8-bit and 16-bit days a lot of parents, talk shows and even news media stated that "video games were just a habit that children would surely grow out of with time." I don't feel it and from years of looking through Gamespot I highly doubt anyone else here will either. But I'd like to hear it from everyone else; help convince me I'm not crazy and that this IS a shared commonality between many adults, young adults, teenagers and children moving ever closer to "adulthood." Do you think you will ever "grow out of" gaming?smadiso1
You're situation is almost identical to mine, and just like you I don't think I will ever will either. In fact, I think kids will only help support it :)

Sometimes I leave it in, sometimes I don't. I haven't had any problems with my games by leaving them in the console though.WWJD
Same here.

I play just to kick back, relax, and have some fun. I like pretty arcadey type games, and don't need an intense story. Cinematics usually just get in the way for me, unless their really well done, and don't take up too much time. I don't like things too difficult. I don't have lots of time to play games, so I don't want to spend the little time I do have just trying to get by 1 stupid level. Refering to the topic, I'll still play old games: 5, 10, 15, 25 year old games. Gameplay is most important to me, and although some games lose their lustre with age, some will always be fun!

That's a tough call. If I base it on # of hours played, feeling of amazment when playing it for the first time, do I still find it fun today, and # of clones that spawned immediatly following, I'd have to say: Doom.

Eye Toy: Operation Spy. I didn't think it was going to be good, but I have almost every other Eye Toy game, and it was $3. I couldn't resist rounding out the collection a little more.

Probably my brother. I was too young, and it was about 25 years ago, so I don't really remember. But I know my older brother got the first video game system in the house, and younger brothers want to do what older brothers do, so there you go.

I don't think there's one answer. Some new games are truly awesome. Some really suck. The same goes for the old games. There was never a system out that had all hits and no misses. But I don't think it's about graphics, and sound. Yes those two things can take a good game and make it great, but you have to start off with solid gameplay, and it has to be fun. Many games that were fun 25 years ago are still fun today because they had great gameplay. I think a testament to that is how many new games borrow off of old games. Some pull it off, and some don't.

I agree that the PS2 has a great range of games, and it's just fun to play. It's a great marketing decision though. I'm sure Sony hopes that people that aren't willing to plunk down $500 for a new console may shell out a couple hundred for a Wii. That is of course, unless the new games are still coming out on their old system. If they can keep those gamers holding on to their PS2 a little longer, they'll keep a great loyal fan base until the PS3 Slim comes out :)

No. I usually just go play or do something else instead of sitting there playing a game I'm not enjoying.
