@Daemoroth Euhm i don't really agree with games beign shorter cause of the second hand sales. Games became shorter for two reasons.

1. Because the graphics became really great there for making a 10+ hour campaign would be too expensive (words from Activision, i call them BS but its their reason why a game only takes 4 hours instead of +10 as they used too and others use the same excuse why their games are so insanely short).

2. The game industry is focused on the mainstream gamer. A mainstream gamer needs to feel great about themselfs. Ever since they became the main audience for games, games became a lot shorter (so they feel great for finishing a game) and a lot easier (compare normal mode 10 years ago with normal mode these days...What used to be normal is now considered very hard mode) this so mainstream gamers can finish the game and don't get stuck (omg you don't wanna be stuck for 5 minutes brrr).

Also DLC will always be there. Sure they will say they have to make it to counter second hand sales. But second hand sales have been there for ages, it was there during the NES days and perhaps even before that. DLC is just a way to charge more money from gamers, and seeing it provides them with a lot of money they won't dump it now. We used to get expansion packs in the old days, remember? Those expansions often provided a lot of new content and many many hours extra gameplay for about 20 euro. What do you get for a 15 euro costing DLC, 5 new maps for the multiplayer thats it. Or 1 hour extra story and a new character to play with..whooptidoo.

Fact remains that publishers are a lot more greedy these days and they love to blame us the gamers for their sales problem. There are many reasons why the sales drop for games (even though i doubt its that bad) and why the second hand market is popular.

1. ITS A FREAKING CRISIS, MEANING PEOPLE HAVE LESS MONEY TO SPEND. Every sector has that problem but the game industry fails to see the connection between having less to spend so not buying as many games as before the crisis.

2. Why would you spend 60 euro on a game that offers only 4 to 5 hours gameplay? I remember when the first episode games came out for the PC. People shout murder, you had to pay 10 or 15 euro's for Half life episode 1 and Sin Episode 1. And you only got a few hours of gameplay.....Now people have to pay 50 - 60 euro's for only a few hours of gameplay. Offcourse they gonna look for a cheaper solution. Not everyone cares for multiplayer either and as long as shooters focus mainly on multiplayer they will have to accept that the singleplayers who are used to have singleplayer shooters don't pay 60 euro for 4 hours of a campaign.

3. Not everyone CAN spend 60 euro's on games, yet they want to play games too. If they wanna play with friends but can't afford the 60 euro's the second hand market is a great alternative.

The game industry has made many great errors, and for every error they make they blame the gamers. Piracy, second hand market, its all pointed towards the gamers. If they would open their eyes they would see why people pirate (cause most of the pirates don't pirate to get a free game, they pirate cause they don't want DRM on their pc like with Ubisoft where you can't play your game when their server is down again even though its a singleplayer only game) and why people buy second hand games.

They should bring back the mod scene for the PC. Look at Arma 2, it is a great game on its own. It provides players with a editor and once you bought the game you get a lot of player made content. And recently DayZ came out, making the sales of the game rise like mad even though its a game from 2010. Same goes for the Elders scroll series on the PC atleast. There is a huge mod scene, offering so much extra content that the money you spend on will be more than worth it. Years later you can still play and get new mods providing you with content you never seen in the game before. Now on the pc its nearly imposible to have second hand copies of the games with all the insane protections, but on a console you don't have those. So maybe publishers should unlock the modding scene there as well. Console gamers don't get mods, so when you played trough a game it is over. Nothing to do anymore if there is no multiplayer or you don't like multiplayer. Sure you can wait for a DLC pack to come out, but you have to wait. Open up the mod scene again for games and make it possible for the console as well. That would help a lot with second hand sales.

The game industry needs to learn not to punish gamers, but rather please the gamers. All they do is punish punish punish. And at what result? Its proven that it doesn't work. Stop the second hand sales? You will see a increase of piracy. On the pc we hardly get demos and we can't even return our games anymore cause of the activation crap, so yeah many pirate a game if only to see if the game is even worth the purchase. And console games are pirated like mad as well, and will be even more pirated if second hand sales are forbidden (though here in Europe the court has stated that second hand sales are legal and that its to bad for the game industry they may not stop it). The game industry needs to reward the gamers for sticking to the game. Screw high prices on DLC, make cheap but quallity stuff as a reward to your loyal buyers. Bring out free content now and than. Or if you really wanna stick to the crappy DLC stuff atleast make your games 30 euro's cause really, games these days hardly have the value of 30 euro's content wise.

@pinching_perry No need to get jealous really. The first beta weekend i got in (i only been in 2) i hardly got to play cause on that friday the server was mostly down (im playing in Europe). And the rest of the weekend the server was a huge lag fest so no one really got to enjoy the game, but hey its a beta test for something so i hope it provided the devs with what they needed. And that is what a beta is and something to many people forget. Beta weekends aren't for us to enjoy the game, try the game, etc. They are meant for us to hunt down bugs, report the bugs and meant for Devs to see how the servers hold on pressure, how smooth things go, if things don't bug, etc.

Same thing goes for TSW. You will read many people complaining about their beta experience but they forgot that they where suppose to be part of a test team who report their bugs to FC and not gonna whine about it on game sites how bad the game is for having such bugs. Okay FC doesn't really hold up a good rep about fixing bugs, as AoC player who played from the beta's till half year after launch and returned a few times over the years i can see why they have that bad rep. But still TSW offers a lot of original things. People hype GW2 for being so "original" but as vet MMO'er i didn't really seen anything special that i hadn't seen before. TSW like it or not brought more original stuff than the hyped GW2. And i fear people will forgive GW2 for certain things where they find it unacceptable for TSW. Partly because of FC's poor rep.

I only did two TSW beta's but i could already feel that improved a lot between the two, and that was only 1 or 2 weeks in between. Sure they used a older version with the first beta i was in and probably a much newer version of the game with the second but some things did feel better the second way around so i keep small hope that perhaps in a few months the game will be in a shape i find it worthy to pay money for. Im just gonna be careful now and first see the reviews and read about what players who play it think of it after a month perhaps 2 playing.

@BlackSquare Because EA does the Activision tactic. Remove the mod scene and you can charge big money for something stupid as only five maps.

EA really dropped the ball. They had such a big mouth about Activision's Elite system and claimed they would never make such a thing. And tadaa guess what EA made. FFS publishers like EA and Activision should die! And with that i mean the companies should stop excisting. All they do is destroying the game market with a insane greed.

Give games back to gamers, not to wanna become rich quick managers.

@infinity_ Its still a persons personal oppinon about what they like. It doesn;t make them dumb. Otherwise every gamer in the world is dumb cause there are always people who do no like a certain game. The Secret World is not your game, but still doesn't make people dumb who enjoy this game.

I tried the beta and i don't see any reason for myself to buy this game as it is now. After AoC i expect a better char customization from FC. Now its very limited, ran into thousands of twins right from the start. The combat feels rather slow, but i just been playing Tera and everything after Tera, even GW2 (yeah im the GW2 beta so i could compare) feels slow and boring.

The setting how ever and investigating things was very nice. But for me personally it doesn't justify the costs of the game. Maybe when there is a price drop i will have a look. I don't mind a monthly fee, i prefer a monthly fee so that it keeps away those lame people who never want to buy a game but still think they have the rights to complain (sorry if you don't pay for something you may not complain about things either, its free after all didn't cost you a thing). Beside F2P is still more expensive than a P2P if you want the full experience you have when you have a P2P game (acces to all dungeons, gear, skills, lvl, how much exp you get, etc).

If people gonna enjoy this game, that is good for them. I after AoC and the beta am rather careful but i really hope it becomes a great game. FC for me personally is big on promised low on delivery but still they are more creative about a milked dry genre than other devs. At least they try, unlike a certain shooter series.

@ThaSoul420 It was also far from the quallity people exspected from a FF game. And this bs about a new FF should do better than the old ones will never happen. SE has forgotten that their top FF creators have left SE so its not gonna happen, not ever.

And a very poor choice of them seeing they could earn a lot of money seeing how many fans FF7 has. But if they wanna be poor businessmen i guess they are allowed too.

@TomMcShea Yes and no. The problem is that Gamespot and other game sites been giving out 8's and 9's way to easy to games that didn't deserve it either. The score system is flawed and broken. For today's gamers everything under a 8 is conciderd bad.

Beside that, even though you are only one reviewer and base your score on how you experienced this game, people also see a 8 or a 9 next to any CoD title. And before you say "that is another reviewer in another genre" that isn't what people see. People see you saying things that go for CoD and Halo and even GTA as well. But yet those games keep getting insane high scores while they aren't worth more as a 7 either. Even though you don't judge those games people see all you reviewers as one, and when one game gets "only" a 6.5 cause it doesn't bring anything new and has some other flaws they do wonder why other games who haven't brought. anything new either and have their own flaws as well still get a 8 or a 9. So the entire gamespot will has to drasticly change how they score games and have the reviewers on one line about it, otherwise you will keep getting such comments on reviews.

@_Bear You do know that the targeted crowd for Lego games are mostly younger gamers right? Its not meant for people of 16+ its meant for a much lower age. And for its crowd it does a great job. It has to be simple cause its meant for kids. Something many seem to forget.
