Are you connected to a router? If so, login to that and check to see who's connected, it's the easiest way. Any MAC addresses you don't recognize, then boot 'em and then tighten up your security on the router. Some routers have MAC filtering where you can specify MAC addresses that can connect. If the MAC doesn't match, no connection is possible even if the password is cracked.

Also check for updates on your software and do a malware scan. Might want to rebuild your TCP/IP stack as well (could be corrupted): netsh int ip reset c:\whatevername.txt at the cmd prompt.

If the problem is on the univ. level though, your university servers' etc. could be the problem. Their infrastructure setup would have to be very fubar for your pc to mess up the university's inet, I'm guessing.

DDR-3 has a much higher bandwith and lower latencies (they'll be represented as higher on stats, but this is because the clock cycles by which they're measured are shorter) and consume less power than DDR-2 which is perfect for notebooks.

Go the DDR-3 route.

Make sure all of your connections are hooked up properly on the back of your sound card. I suspect they are if the channel test comes out correctly, though. Knowing that, I would go to sound options in Control Panel and make sure that your speaker config. is set to 6.1.

I would also make sure that happens in all your games and not just one - it might be a 1 game issue sort of thing. If you know everything is set right, I believe there is an option in properties to not let app.s take control of the device, I would check that box). Cheers.

If you can take the hard drive out of your office computer, why not just take the dvd drive out of your office computer and hook it up to your desktop at home for the install and use a program that lets you copy the game to the hard drive or a virtual drive so you don't have to insert the cd to play, instead of all that hoopla?

Tons of graphics cards that are better. You could spend a ton of money on a true gaming notebook, but those things are overpriced, you generally can't upgrade them, and the convenience of a laptop is lost, those things are HEAVY. If you truly want to game, sell the laptop or use it for work/general computing use and get a gaming computer in the form of a not-so-portable tower.

gaming laptop is an oxymoron, escpecially in your case. Fable will get maxed, Oblivon on low, Doom 3 med low. Crysis is a noferret-gamer

Cheers! Gaming and laptop don't go together, sorry. :( You generally get way more computing power for less money with a desktop > laptop. However convenient laptops may be, they just don't have the space for current "front of the pack" hardware.

I've seen this problem before. Random shutdowns or loss of power to certain devices in your PC almost always point to the PSU. You might want to check temps for good measure, but my guess is your PSU needs replacing. You can get a brand new PSU from newegg in the 30-40 dollar range and it's an easy install (depending on how big a PSU you need(may need to spend more if you need a lot of amperage)).

The sys_fan port is for your standard case fans. It lets your mobo monitor the speed of a case fan. Cheers!

Do you have all the updates from MS for Vista, like SP 1?  I remembered MS applying a hotfix for SLI and Crossfire setups a while ago, and googled it:  KB936710, that hotfix may or may not be a part of Service Pack 1, I'm not sure..

A large portion of Vantage takes the CPU's processing power into comparison which is part of your final score. A lot of factors contribute to a benchmarking score, your GPU is powerful, but your CPU is a bit on the slow side. I wouldn't sell your graphics card. It's a nice one and should allow you to play a lot of games.

I would consider upgrading the CPU though to something with a higher clock.
