If your still early in the game I will just stick to raw damage and forget about element for now. Don't forget about the sharpness level also. Just get a weapon with high raw damage with green level sharpness.
Just go to youtube and search up some monster hunter videos and watch them fight. To me the best way to learn how to play is to watch someone play and learn from it.
monster hunter does't really have a level up system. the only thing that levels up is your weapon and armor. To me your character doesn't level up but you as the player has to level up.
