I grew up in the 90s and early 2000s with sports games, and it's shocking how little they've innovated since then, yet the majority of casual players don't care. I'm sure it does make it difficult to figure out who you're writing your review for - the hardcore gamers that come to this website for the latest gaming review, or the vast majority of people that don't care about the MTX or lack of features and just want to hear about the glitz and glamour of the latest release.
@dragoonmike: Kinda baffling decision because people will make builds around the hearts, and when the season is over and everyone is put back on the eternal realm, you get to pay all of your gold to respec.
@MigGui: It feels like a slap in the face. Many people had complaints about economy, time-wasting mechanics, skills and classes that felt underpowered, etc. Blizzard didn't address any of those. They nerfed armor, they nerfed multiple sources of damage, they make you waste more time by having it take 2 extra seconds to teleport (why?), they nerfed XP gain, and they nerfed the loot in certain areas.
I'm guessing this is their way of trying to make the game last longer, by having everyone be weaker and grind longer. They could have added new and interesting gear, and buffed up some underutilized abilities and people would have loved to spend the season trying out new things. But now, it's the same game as before, just worse.
I was waiting for the patch notes to see if it would sway me on which character to play for season 1. Now I'm deciding what other game I'll be playing.
@cejay0813: I get that. The game is going to look a lot different in a year than it does now. But my point is, why would I do it now when the incentives aren't there?
I don't mind having to restart on a fresh character since it's always been that way...but the rewards they described don't see worth it at all. Gold? XP? Blessing that give you more of the same stuff that you already get in the game? At least Diablo 3 gave you 6 pieces of armor that made you much more powerful. This doesn't seem to add much except "Start over so you can get extra XP to get back to where you were". I don't see the point.
@ddesroches: I agree. All of the networks pulled out as soon as they thought they could entice viewers to their own platforms, so I could see developers do the same. The only difference is that TV networks had to sign on a bunch of low quality reality shows and whatnot to create enough content for people to watch. Will developers have enough of a library to entice players? Imagine if Ubisoft made their own service, there wouldn't be a steady stream of new content, and it's not like they can buy up a bunch of small studios to make content for them. I think that's the only thing keeping everyone under the Gamepass/PS Plus umbrella right now. You can tell how bad they all want to do their own thing with how they all have their own launchers on PC.
