I for one will be playing it hands down..... Im a fan of MMOs and im a fan of final fantasy, since day one. and something seriously needs to be said..... a couple things really.

To every single idevidual here who is adamantly opposed to the thought of paying 50cents a day.. u obviously have no idea what is involved..

Games that operate online and host on a dedicated server must be upkept.. there has to be maintenece, and constant monitoring. Also.. these servers are stationed in dedicated enviorments and have to be taken care of as well. Ill go on.

Creating an mmo and releasing it is NOT the end of its development... dev teams are on a constant shift... working on new contet.. special events.. balancing, and handling player concers and complaints.. then u have the billing department for all this.. in the real world .. people are usually paid for doing there jobs.. your 2 quarters a day are what assist in funing this.. otherwise u would have micro transactions and in game advertisment like Guild wars - the only succecsfull non subscription mmo- and all immersion would be thrown out the window..

U guys need to understand that you are p[aying for a service... u cant justify opposing a subscription fee because u have spent 50 or 60 bucks on the game... with out these subscription fees.. these types of huge fast open world mmos are impossible to maintain for a long period of time. That is the cold hard truth. Those that are complaining are most likeley not mmo fans and are under the age if 18 maybee or just around that age.. and possibly cant afford it. Ask a freind at school for a quarter, then ask another freind for a quarter...give it to your mother, have her put it on her card and badaboom. If u can afford it and have your own card.. and refuse to pay it, you only selling yourself short of a most likely amazing expereince with hundreds of final fantasy fans of like mind..... 50 cents a day people... not that serious.

Its how mmos work.

bah..  Dont fix whats not broken....

Final Fantasy 7 should have been LEFT ALONE! i sware to everything that is holy in the world of videogame gods that if sakaguchi-san was still calling the shots, this game wouyld have been left alone after its ps1 original release,

it garnishes no rights for a remake anymore then ff8 or 9 for that matter... unless we are talking about sales and populartiy as opposed to game quality and story, and in that case all is lost since Yochi Wada already said that 13 will be the last of this kind of game and that they are looking into a more next generation type of gameplay.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3177521

If thats the case then a 7 remake woudnt even fit the bill unless they completely rework the entire structure of gamplay and REALLY alienate fans.

Final fantasy 7 ended on a high note, with an excellent level of closure.. it should have stayed there.

Its nearly disgusting how much they are milking from this title alone...   i see 2 problems..

1) it will strip the game of its nostalgia and integrity, and everything that wich makes it final fantasy 7...

2) Advent children... fine whatever.. ham fist feed us this washup afterstory.. whatever, it was "decent" and very appealing to the eyes but did nothing but service fans of its respective game, instead of crafting a believable story to fallow suit. But i sware.. it they try to pigeon hole dirge of cerberus's and crisis core's genesis-angeal garbage into a story that was never ment to have them in it, would just be pouring salt on the wound..

Im sorry but its poor writing when u make spin off stories of a particular game or world/lore  and not be able to tie them in logically without coming off as too excessive or as if your trying to hard to "make it fit in" with an already established universe

again,  final fantasy 7 should have been left alone for gods sake, im a fan of the final fantasy series in general, i have no particular bias opinions, but a ps3 remake of 7, would be just as welcomed as 8 or 9. The snes titles get their rebirth on the ds.  Ps2 is still too close to home with ps3 so 10 and 12 dont count.

Both are fantastic games, but I'll go with FF8 because the characters are bit more relatable.
Its way to hard to say....

For pure nostalgia sake.. ff9 is absolute... it pays plenty of homage to its origins and what not and a lot of people loved that.

The sound tracks for both games are simply stellar, yet very different in ****.

Although this is debatable, the story lines for both games arent the greatest in the series, 9 relies to much on nostalgia and looses pace somewhere in the middle when teh crystal and gariland get invloved. 8 is just as heavy as 10 on the romance factor so i wont count that (nothing wrong with it mind you), but it, like 9 gets a little lost around the mid section.. and unltimatley 8 and 9 have ending bosses that u actaully dont even know are care about.. im not a ff7 fanboy by any means... but sephiroth was an enemy present thruought the entire game.. so the games end encounter ment at least somthing to the player as they were able to grow a dislike for the character... somthing both 8 and 9 were lacking.... im sorry but kuja and ulimecia had very little impact on the player.

I'll agree with IX having an ending boss you don't care about (He literally jumps out of the vagina that is the universe)

But VIII's ending boss, Ultimecia, is present throughout the entire game, if you want to get technical.
I mean, she was possessing Edea, and then Rinoa
Present.. sure

developed?   hardly

The big problem is that the areas acessed early in the game will be 'blocked' on another disk because of free space like in ffix, those roots in the ground. I dont even have an xbox so whatever.

(And dont start saying the xbow is sooo much better than the ps3, get one)

Cpt-Fair

The areas in ff9 were not blocked due to lack of space... its a mechanic that makes the player progress to the the ending of the game, when u get the first airship on disk 3 u can visist vurtually every city in the game... does disk 3 have more space then 4? same as final fantasy 7 and 8, its only in the finale ending segments that they are barred... the largest files in final fantasy games are the CG ones, as well as the most sensitive to disk damage.

The only rpg that i can remeber forcing u to insert a revious disk to visit previous towns, was the abysmal legend of dragoon (im sorry but it was bad, .... really bad).

Anyways the only problem i see is having to manage and take care of more disks... blu ray are much more durable, accidents do happen, other then that i think it woundnt be that big of a deal, at least it will look more attactive in a CD book XD

The sound tracks for both games are simply stellar, yet very different in style..

I gues my choice would have to come down to a gameplay stand point..

I favor the deep customization options. and modifiers that 8 provides (dispite the tedious drawing mechanic to get to that point) ultimatley u can craft your party the way u want with the characters u want, while ff9 stayed true to its engraved classes to the characters (zidane was a thf, freya dragoon/lancer, quina blu mage ect..) and the only option for customization was in the passive abilites learned via equipment, but to be honest there were only a few that were actaully essential.. final fantasy 8 was much more felxible, coming down to who u wanted to use for whatever reason, be it there limit breaks ( wich as well, were much more satisfying as compared to 9s very strict trance system) or just wich character u wanted to see in battle..

Another thing on the system in ff9 that bugged me was that at the point where u are in post game and really getting ur characters buffed up... so much is renderded obsolete... there is no point whatsoever to use vivi end game.. stiener has a mutli target non elemental non physical ability that deals 9999 to all enemy targets, zidanes best move grand lethal hit 9999 (twise i think, i cant remeber) sarah aka dagger was handicaped by a lack of effective healing spells compared to eiko, wich i should note that eidolons are alos usless when they hit for as much as a melee characters attack deals.. with mp attack equiped, so dagger really got teh short end of teh straw, at least eiko could buff the party depending on what accesory she would wear, modifing certain summon effects.

So ya those are my quams, ff9 is great for a straight play thru and enjoy the package of nostalgia it offers,, but to players that like to realy max out stats and customize there party to there fitting, i think ff8 hits that nail right on the head. So coming from a guy that completley coverd teh sphere grid with every character and placed stat nodes all other empty nodes for 255 of everything excpet the luck stat in ff10.... i would say Final Fantasy 8 /huge ego off

Any one else having a problem with final fantasy VIII freezing constantly on boss fights...

I just bought the official psn copy - this is not a rom-

Ive tried turning up the disk load speed.. and setting the screen to orginal, pretty much anything i can... and it keeps freezing randomly, and only on battles, no where else.

I used to have a rom version on my old psp with cfw and the same problem occured, i figured it was just a rom issue but even with a legit psn version, the problem is still there

Im sorry guys but this isnt the greatest news ever..

To those that are planning on buying this game on psn.. be warned..  im not sure if it happens no a psp go, but with a slim and fat, this game freezes left and right during battles.... usually starting with elvret (first main boss, on com tower) and then quite often after that... almost every time when ur tying to kill diablos..

Yes im very angry...   i havent been able to find out how to fix this, ive tried numerous things. nothing works.  Funny thing is 2 years ago.. i hacked my original psp and put ff8 on it..  so ive had portable ff games for a long while...   but the same thing happend... i figured maybee it was just an issue with the rom and/or emulator.. but nope, u buy this game officially off psn and it will still crash....

Youve been warned :(

But thats one problem right there...

your referencing a game made by funcom.... age of conan. As i stated, that game had poor support and a mediocre dev team behind it.. as far as the big names companies are concered...

and another thing.... guild wars is free because

a) it uses micro transactions and in game advertisment to fund its self

b) its not a seamless game.. and is very segmented..

these are all points that i made clear in the opening article..

Plz take note of these points that i made and think about it.... the point of the statment is to clarify why xiv WILL not be like the other previous semi failed mmos.. for reasons i wont state again..
