has anyone heard Bill Hicks stand up where he talks about a 'story' (i.e fictitious example) of a man on drugs who thought they could fly and jumped out of a window. If you hear his opinion of that action I think it can easily be applied to these marathon gamers too

@Enundr I get where you're coming from, and I actually pulled the EC last night to see what was different, I admit I didnt like it quite as much but at the same time I wonder a little bit. I can definitely understand why a lot of people were so annoyed at the original ending. Although it wasn't in my view an awful send off. I still think the somewhat tacked on, empty planet scan fetch quests between missions were a much more serious issue, they served absolutely no purpose in the grand scheme of things though other people weren't so bothered, courses for horses eh?

I generally dont game much anymore because of all the hype that never lives up to its promise, but I'd pick up ME3 again if they fleshed it out with some story driven DLC. (please don't flame me for saying that everyone!:) )

I completed Mass Effect 3 yesterday night, granted I had the Extended Cut already in there. I can see how a lot of people would be gutted about how it turns out but personally I thought it was really rather good. Quite sad, but I felt it was rather a good send off. On the whole I take more issue with the pacing of the game in the 'middle' act and the fetch missions which in my view made the game plod along a little bit. MP is pretty good too (I'm not much of an MP player I admit).

I suppose the term 'its only a game' has long been forgotten...

This article beggars a question for me in terms of rating (my biggest gripe of 2011). You say that when a game is saddled with noteworthy flaws you lower the score accordingly, problems cant be ignored. In light of that how did GS ever manage to give Mass Effect 2 (PS3) that lofty 8.5? I loved the game on PC but on the PS3 it suffered, from save game corruption, extensive lip sync problems, crashes, frame rate drops and audio problems. Should that version of the game not have a substantially lower score than its PC counter part's 9.0? A lot of games are rated higher than they should be and while I agree that polish isn't all important its definitely in the top five features for a decent game. All said and done I think GS and a lot of other sites need to review their rating system, because 7.5 has become the new 5. Instead of defending an above average rating perhaps there should be a little more thought put into rating games, just my two cents and a cheeky rant :D

Good article, make a lot of sense, I generally buy quite a few pre-owned games on my PS3 sometimes out of spite, because in all honesty, I want to buy and play the game not the more often than not badly planned shoddily implemented DLC, and I rarely if ever look into online playing. A good way of making me buy new is incentive not telling me I'm costing people their jobs... Maybe the publishers should bring the developers more into the cut rather than guilt trip the people who ultimately fund them...
