Free Mass Effect 3 DLC out next week

New multiplayer-focused Earth add-on content heading to spacebound role-playing game on July 17; Kinect PlayFit calorie tracker now available.

by

BioWare is continuing to add to March's well-received space role-playing game Mass Effect 3. Microsoft's director of Xbox Live programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb announced today on his blog that a free Mass Effect 3 multiplayer expansion titled Earth will arrive on Xbox Live on July 17.

BioWare has more Mass Effect 3 DLC in the pipeline.

No further information is available surrounding the content, but previous multiplayer expansions for Mass Effect 3--Resurgence and Rebellion--launched on all platforms, and added new maps, weapons, and characters.

Launching today on Xbox Live in the United States is Kinect PlayFit, a free download that was the subject of a rumor in May. The application aggregates and tracks the calories gamers burn as they play a range of games, including Dance Central 2 and Kinect Star Wars. Kinect PlayFit allows users to view personal statistics over time and track progress on leaderboards. The app launches in other regions later this week.

Only interested in single player DLC - which I would, ehem... pay for.

they could add some new mods for mp.

I wonder if they could add a new game mode like assault, with the Earth DLC, to mix things up a bit... Also this 360 only thing baffles me, y would they do that?

Telling people to stop complaining is impossible for the very simple reason that, we have a natural tendency to complain about anything the whole population of the Earth complain's about something, I myself complain about a lot of thing's I don't agree with and you the reader's of this thread are complaining right now about  Mass Effect 3 or, complaining about complaining and so am I the latter I mean.

Yes i was dissapointed with the endings as well but its been months so shut up and get over it. So enjoy more free DLC

I enjoy the MP in ME3, more than I thought I would, to be honest ... and it's nice that they're doing more for free.  However, for me, it still doesn't erase the bad taste in my mouth from the ending experience of the SP (EC or not).  The entire thing has soured me on Bioware.  DA2 was a body blow, but I think the end of ME3 was the death knell.

So while I would love more DLC for the SP Game, I can't say that I'd buy it ... I don't really care to pay for more content that will still lead to the same inevitable bad conclusion.  I wanted the chance for my Shep to survive with his LI ... instead, I got existential nihilism written by someone who apparently graduated from Emo U.

Well, I like the MP. I've been playing since the demo and I haven't paid for an upgrade once. Upgraded all common and uncommon weapons. I like the consistent upgraded DLC. AND I ***shock*** liked the ending!I swear it just seems like people need something to complain about. Like FREE DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT. FREE. F-R-E-E.Bioware will add SP DLC soon enough. I have patience. I would rather see a well thought out DLC that people are gonna complain about then a rushed unfinished DLC that people are gonna complain about.

Well, at least the DLC is free, that's a step in the right direction.

I suppose it's good that they're doing this for free in a way, but the way they get you is by making the likelihood of getting these DLC items very low, making some of the more impatient players fork out loads of money (probably even more than they would have had to if it were premium content) on Spectre Packs and whatnot. I for one still haven't unlocked any characters from the previous DLCs.

People Should Enjoy This Free DLC Instead of Complaining About it, Personally i think adding more content to the Multiplayer side really adds another dimension to the game itself, and if you haven't tried Multiplayer yet , I say do it right now and you will whats all the buzz is about !

I like that they are releasing free DLC. Suprised EA lets them. A level on Earth will be interesting but I'm wondering... Where is our singleplayer DLC?

I am pretty sure most people replying to this article haven't finished ME3 or played the multiplayer. For those who have, what's wrong with adding to the multiplayer of a franchise that isn't going to release another single player campaign? It is more popular than you think. I like single player as well and wouldn't complain if they added to that side, but it doesn't need to be one or the other.

I completed Mass Effect 3 yesterday night, granted I had the Extended Cut already in there. I can see how a lot of people would be gutted about how it turns out but personally I thought it was really rather good. Quite sad, but I felt it was rather a good send off. On the whole I take more issue with the pacing of the game in the 'middle'  act and the fetch missions which in my view made the game plod along a little bit. MP is pretty good too (I'm not much of an MP player I admit).

EA ruined mass effect 3, i honestly blame them the most, & Bioware should stop making DLC, like really whats done it's done.they got to move on to something else mass effect 3 is done.& i hope they don't ruin dragon age 3, dragon age : origins was swag, dragon age 2 combat system is good but the story was not great, ruined it, even they canceled the expansion for dragon age 2 hoping it might turn bad, well im glad they canceled expansion for 2.but anyways in very short, bioware better not screw dragon age 3.

Bioware, don't you get it ,

We don't give a crap anymore,

Even the ones that accept you EC ending are half arsed and say it's better than nothing, This is no way to sell dlc so you should stop pretending with the free online crap and let go just like we have.

We wont chase this turkey till it dies as long as you don't

Multiplayer again... for a game that was originally a single player experience ...bioware you are doing it wrong.

OMG this would be so awesome... If I gave a damn about the MP aspect of ME3. There's really nothing that will change my feelings towards this game unless one day someone decides to do a "re-imaging" of it. One the other hand, where is the DLC for the SP campaign? I just want to see how they do a SP based DLC before I turn this game into my local Gamestop. Not that they already amazed me (in a bad way) with their Day 1 DLC "From Ashes" (which I heard was content that was originally on the game).

@i8ababytoo and whats wrong with adding to the multiplayer? cause no matter how many maps they add , its ALL THE SAME GAME MODE ALL THE TIME. im sorry but that gets boring real fast. for multiplayer purposes you have to have a different game mode  then the same one on different maps.

Enundr
Enundr

@i8ababytoo theyre going to release another ME game , dont lie to yourself and dont lie to everyone else. even with that awful ending , look at that last scene (you know which one) and how it mentions another story about the shepard. you know they will make another ME game just to get the $. look who backs them up in regards of money hungry. and yes i did finish campaign and played multiplayer. so im pretty sure you have your head shoved so far up your backside , that you need to go out and get some fresh air.

Caduceus89
Caduceus89

@i8ababytoo Why wouldn't they release another single player campaign for a series fans bought for the single player experience? But you're right, it doesn't need to be one or the other so where is the single player dlc to go along with this?

@Theconsciousss well thats just it , ppl were ticked off about the game prior to the EC ,  you should have beaten it before the EC to see why everyone was (and prob still) pissed about it , and of EA/Biowares responses to the fanbase that voiced all of it. the last comment made by EA before EC came out was them trying to say the ending happened at a set time frame , rather then the actual last moment of the game. 1) thats unbelievable dumb  as f**k to say that , 2) ppl play games at different paces , so saying an actual time frame is generally showing your incompetent to even knowing anything about gamers and you should never take any part in gaming  at all till you can grasp that. it shows that all they care about is trying to get easy money.

@Black_Jedi they keep releasing free DLC , hoping to buy ppls affection back even after having insults thrown at as by both EA and bioware. hopefully ppl will notice this and speak with their wallets to future ea / bioware games.

Oh, Black Jedi, honey bunnie, just you wait and see about BioWare's Dragon Age 3. Just you wait and see. LOL. It will be given the EA/BioWare love that ME3 had.  In fact, my user pic is your typical BioWare employee (to all of you idiots you actually thought it was me, get a life).

@samantha_sneez Javik the squadmate is on disc, the mission/planet is not, nor are the cutscenes/dialogue. Still though $10 was extortion for it, should have been only 5. Being Day 1 didn't help either

Theconsciousss
Theconsciousss

@Enundr I get where you're coming from, and I actually pulled the EC last night to see what was different, I admit I didnt like it quite as much but at the same time I wonder a little bit. I can definitely understand why a lot of people were so annoyed at the original ending. Although it wasn't in my view an awful send off. I still think the somewhat tacked on, empty planet scan fetch quests between missions were a much more serious issue, they served absolutely no purpose in the grand scheme of things though other people weren't so bothered, courses for horses eh?

I generally dont game much anymore because of all the hype that never lives up to its promise, but I'd pick up ME3 again if they fleshed it out with some story driven DLC. (please don't flame me for saying that everyone!:) )

Enundr

@KDogKool its free cause theyre attempting to try to buy your love back after throwing insults and giving a horrible job on the ending of a trilogy , which generally has a bigger impact then just a game that isnt part of one.

I just want single player DLC mate ,Mass effect is a single player game very few people care about the multiplayer, it was fun for a while but now its just boring . What is frustrating is how bioware went on and on about how multiplayer wouldn"t impinge on the single player fans experience. I guess this is just another lie from bioware

Enundr

@Theconsciousss and yes im also aware of all the other issues in the game (all the  "fetch" quests that dont involve  any kind of story to them , as in none of them felt "epic" i guess you could say , and only the main missions felt remotely epic and meaningful (till that end that is) , and the going around the galaxy just quick scanning everything for stuff , again lined in with the "fetch" quests.) there were alot of moments where it didnt feel like you were exploring a galaxy , but more like you were just going from city to city kind of feel. look at ME1 for example , all the mako (i think thats what it was called anyway) exploration moments on all the planets , sure some ppl will prob say that was real tedious , but it gave feeling to the game that the galaxy was big and you were exploring it. alot of that was taken out with ME3 , some in ME2 but not entirely as much as ME3 was. it felt like in the end they just made a short game to just end the trilogy that didnt feel as rich  in how vast the galaxy is and just had you focused on getting it done quick. (really thinking thats coming down to a CoD kind of mindset as much as i hate to do any form of comparison , much less bringing that up all together , it seems theyre just trying to go for that quick  / short attention span  mind set.

Enundr
Enundr

@Theconsciousss basically im just flatout avoiding EA / Bioware games at this point , cause you can generally expect the same stuff from future games (DA3 ? ;-P ) , but what i mean is im avoiding any of their games cause they didnt admit anything was wrong  and in essence said it was all our fault for not being imaginative (i believe there was something said  about the original ending leaving it out in the open for ppl to imagine what could have happened , though not entirely sure that was bioware that said it or not , if it was that fuels my dislike even further) and all the responses from bioware / EA were insults thrown at our face(s).  if you cant even admit to a mistake , yes everyone can make a mistake , were humans and were not anywhere near perfect  , then your not someone worth bothering with (im sure that sounds arrogant but meh). if they could atleast admitted their fault with that ending i could have settled and accepted the EC and only be cautious about future bioware games. but obviously that isnt the case and all we got were insults thrown at us. in all likelyhood id blame EA first cause there is no doubt in my mind they put a strict deadline on its release (aka the same reason why ALOT of EA games have that "rushed" feeling to them) , it didnt help biowares image that they tried defending it with artistic integrity when you see a message about get more dlc after the credits. that really showed it wasnt so much focused about art (save for the graphics)  , but it was more focused on getting the cash in fast. so far the only game thats hype i find viable recently is GW2 (after beta testing it i find it does live up to its hype , though some ppl not like trying something new and would rather stick to a wow formula and want EZ mode games).

@KDogKool Its not only  bioware hate ...its more like disappointment or heartbreak, I bought an xbox 360 specifically for Mass effect, I bought dragon age origins blindly fully price simply because it said Bioware.

But between the lies the broken promises( Multple endings, DLC is not on disc, Mutiplayer does not affect single player) I have firmly put them on my sh*tlist , near the top in fact. You seem to forget that we had to beg and grovel while all the while being spat on and derided to get this EC, Bioware had no intention of making it WE HAD TO FORCE them and even then they sneak in an insult via the refusal ending which basically says"If you don"t like our ending f#ck you everyone dies and anyway they still use the catalyst next cycle."

So the hate is so very much justified

Enundr
Enundr

@KDogKool theres hate for a reason , ever think of that? some of us have reason and dont follow the media or whatever blind loyal fools like to say someone does. you really dont even try to grasp that there is a reason why ppl hate a great company (or formerly great) so suddenly? ppl LOVED their games. then all of a sudden we get something with such a sloppy ending (plot holes , the 3 colors with no actual variation in the endings that were promised (and i think someone said they claimed there wouldnt be an a , b , c ending kind of thing though  i didnt particularly pay attention to)) and when complaints are made we get told that artistic integrity BS ? and none of that seems to get you to actual think anything other then   ppl who hate them are idiots ? i think that shows enough of how you actually try to take in the situation other then living in the past / blind loyalty.

Enundr
Enundr

@KDogKool you do realize its not unheard of for developers to actually change the ending  / specific parts of their games right?  and they acknowledged our criticism with that artisitic integrity crap.  and theyve only kept all of the stuff so far free to keep some fans from leaving / try to ensure future income. i loved KOTOR , i liked TOR , was sad in some ways it came out , the rest i liked , i liked DA2 even though it had the recycled areas , never even complained about that , though i was aware of it. after this though? no. and never played BG so...

KDogKool
KDogKool

@Enundr they never lost my love...KOTOR is still my favorite game of all time. Havent finished all of Baldurs Gate but I really like it. Loved the entire Mass Effect series, I thought the ending was dissatisfactory, but I moved on. Then the EC came out and I really liked it. I even thought SWTOR was pretty good, just not worth paying a subscription fee. Need to get around to playing Dragon Age.Thing is, as much as I'd love to see some single player DLC (eg Leviathan), I'm not gonna complain for free DLC for a decent multiplayer mode. You don't see a lot of free map packs these days, and the fact that they even acknowledged the criticism they got on the ME3 ending and made the EC shows that they actually care, which most developers wouldn't even have done.I'm tired of all the BioWare hate. They're still my favorite developer.

@NeilCardiff the sad part is , thats their attempt at assaulting used game sales. did you read the article on the guy from EA saying future EA games are all going to be digital? lol at EA. i hope the burn to the ground like they deserve  , for ruining more games then i care to count just for the sake of making money nonstop.
