@panko: For me it all comes to story and characters. VII and X will always top my list because of that. Both stories are timeless. I can play those games now or twenty years from now and still enjoy them. And the end of FFX will always make me cry no matter how many times I play it. lol XII was a very fun game, but I found the story to be just kind of there around the fun world to explore and the characters were mostly enjoyable but just didn't need Vaan as the main character. He literally added nothing to the story at all and was just kind of there.
@Sound_Demon: FFIX wasn't that good. The story and characters were just generic fantasy all around. I'm glad YOU liked it but compare the sales to VII. The majority disagrees. FFVII had people that never even played RPGs before getting into the genre after they played it. I was there when IX came out and it was bashed for being too childish and having really boring game play because the battles were so frickin slow and miserable side quests. F**k that chocobo nonsense. A lot of you got to play IX when it was remastered and had a FF options and cheats which probably makes it come off differently. The original PS version was a long boring trek with a very dull basic story. And Kuja was just a Sephiroth clone. FFIX at the time just felt they wanted to make a version FFVII for kids. It annoys me that people put that game on a pedestal it doesn't belong on. It was just ok. Nothing more, nothing less. Not even in the top 20 of JRPGs all time.
@Barighm: Thank god devs do what they want instead of listening to you whiny niche fans. They need to make money and sell far beyond diehard RPG fans who never want to move on from turn based and wish every game was still FFVI. You guys are NOT the majority. Just accept that and deal with it. VII will always be the best FF game in spite of the loud minority of online fans who try so hard to bash it unsuccessfully. There is a reason VII is getting a multi game remake and none of the others are. Its the most popular FF game that was ever made for a reason, it was that damn good, and probably will remain at the top for a long time to come. Its always fun watching people act like their personal favorite is better than what the majority thinks. What is with this whole "muh opinion" over the world's opinion mentality that so many of you have nowadays? That's just selfishness.
I think this is a game that really wanted to be presented as having deep lore and great story telling, but imo it was a generic story with generic lore and the point of the game was exploration and combat first. And I chased down the lore because i wanted to experience it but nothing really hit me as anything too deep or interesting. It was just kind of there. But again, imo its not the point of these games anyways. Most people play to brag about beating hard bosses and don't even care about the lore. I've been hearing certain fans talk about the lore of all soulslikes and I've played all the Souls games, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring to completion and have no idea what they are talking about.
I definitely agree with number one as I grew up on the Batman animated series and that voice IS Batman, but my number 2 is Bale. I will put Bale over Keaton all day every day because Keaton never rang true as Bruce Wayne to me.
