@kingotnw @Justforvisit It has improved but people are not letting XIV forget its..... humble beginning. Of course it was right when bashing jRPGs became fashionable.

@telaros @StriderTuna @Dante-xero I know i feel old when most so-called RPGers seem to assume jRPGs are nothing but cinemas, angsty pretty boy heroes, and hardly any gameplay (The jRPG excesses Square made a trend of) I wonder how people who started playing during the NES era feel.

@Zero_resistance @shingui5 I think the general issue is A) focusing on making money B) basically selving their side series, C) proceeding to do experimental stuff in a FF (when in the past it was done in some other non-FF game). Wada ultimately screwed the core fans over and Square-Enix paid the price.

@Justforvisit @StriderTuna @Zero_resistance @SorrowsFlame Not saying that the games weren't good, just that in them it was a bit too easily to mindlessly fight battles. In FF8 with the right junctions, you can do much more damage with just physical attacks than even GFs. They didn't push the stragetic line much outside of the super bosses.

@Morphine_OD It'd make money but it wouldn't be a long term solution to their woes.

@Dante-xero It's not the merger itself that hindered square but rather Wada's money grubbing policies proceeding it. That and what many don't know was that the merger was Enix saving Square's bacon after The Spirits Within flopped.

This is a promising first step, now for Square to try to recover their side series and scale things back some to build up what new talent they have. Unlike most I do not see Kingdom Hearts as a savior.... not until someone replaces Noruma as head writer as I think he'll only make its plot more of a mess due to his fondness of "Surprises"

@Zero_resistance @SorrowsFlame The funny part about that is that such an accusation could easily apply to games post 7.

@TheArcade @nate1222 @push88

They first got permission from SoJ but right around the time they were talking about putting it on the Wii Sega of Europe pitched a fit.

@thenephariouson with these big companies, why risk when one can go with a proven money maker. EA's no stranger to this for a long time, look at all those madden games, mostly rehash save for generation jumps. As long as tons of emotionally stunted frat boys eat up CoD or Battlefield, then big companies fill fill that need.
