In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Street Fighter and Mega Man franchises, Capcom today announced a new 8-bit game called Street Fighter X Mega Man. The PC title will be available for free through Capcom's official website at Capcom-Unity.com beginning December 17.

Developed by Capcom fan Seow Zong Hui, with "direction and support" from the publisher, Street Fighter X Mega Man focuses on Mega Man and boasts eight Street Fighter-themed levels and bosses from the history of the fighting franchise. It's awesome that they gave it away for free. I would have paid good money for it from the eShop.

Free stuff and some nerds still find a reason to get angry. When the zombie apocalypse comes, the angry nerds will hopefully be the first to go.

This isn't Capcom scrapping a game to make this... This is a huge Mega Man fan, like us, making something really cool. At least Capcom isn't giving a cease and desist. Doesn't make up for how bad Capcom has treated the franchise but this isn't getting released instead of a "real" game, it's this or nothing.

It's sad how Capcom celebrating Megaman's 25th anniversary by releasing a 'FAN'-made game. To me Megaman is my favourite out of all Capcom's IPs. It's like Mario of Nintendo. I neglect Capcom as much as Capcom neglects Megaman. Hey at least the game is free :)

Why bother making a game, in reality Mega Man characters on the whole would simply blast those Street Fighters from a range beyond which the silly and worthless hadouken can't even whip up a breeze...But then arcade fighters aren't about realism or, in this case, even balance, just about making an unlikely comparison between truly unmatched foes. Oh, and trash talk.

Some how, some way, Capcom will find a way to include disk locked content into this free download.

Good for the person who found some support from Capcom to do this legaly. But still CAPCOM is shafting PC gamers with SFXT still in version 1.02 and still no info on RE6 PC.

Time to put things in perspective. Anyone who thinks Capcom is doing us a great service by allowing a fan to make his/her own SF cross-over is sadly mistaken. For one it's awfully nice of this person to make an SF/MM game however I feel Capcom is using him as a scapegoat. They left it up to this person to create an Anniversary game because the company refuses to properly acknowledge the blue bomber. When it's all said and done we still don't have the following:

1.) No Megaman for Marvel vs Capcom 3

2.) STILL no Megaman for Ultimate MvC3

3.) No Megaman Legends 3

4.) No Megaman X HD Collection

5.) No new Megaman games

The least they can do is release the Arcade games (Power Battle 1 & 2) for all major platforms but they don't even do that. Why do they hate MM THE CHARACTER so much? They KNOW what most people want, they insist upon ignoring us the fans. I'll download this game since it required a whole lot of effort and decipline for said user to execute such a fan tribute but I'm NOT letting Capcom off the hook and you guys shouldn't either. We should be pulling their coattails instead of kissing their feet.

why do i get more excited about fan-made games than published ones? you can almost feel the emotion of the makers pouring from the game. www.sonicfanremix.com < PERFECT example

Man, for every person that is excited, there is a whiny bitch stomping his feet or making a show of being too cool to care. What the hell? This is a fun fan-game and Capcom is backing it...just play it. Thats all you have to do. Or not. There's no need for the negativity, the indignant rants. The hand held expectantly out for more, where there was none promised before. This is given freely and some of you just cant be happy? Jesus, no wonder we are headed down the drain.

@BoozerX That shows just how much of an idiot you are. An 8-bit Megaman game is better than a lot of new gen games currently out there

@HandsomeRay The sad truth is Mega Man games just don't sale as much copies as "real games" do. Only fans are buying Mega Man games at this point.

nbba2

@boarwar I see Capcom got you. It's sad to see a comment such as this so I will just tell you the truth: there was no such thing as Megaman Universe. It was just one teaser trailer that they made. It was never developed as a game nor did they have any intention of making it as a game.

@Poinciana funny thing is that they did that With Megaman Powered Up with the Roll DLC.

it was still free.

@TheArcade Yep, but knowing Capcom they could have easily charged for this. The fact they won't is nice.

@twrexx How generous of Capcom to provide us with a fan-made game that would have come out whether they "supported" it or not, right?

@nbba2 @boarwar If any anger is to be had...It's the lack of Megaman Legends 3

TheArcade
TheArcade

@SaltyMeatballs  Actually, Capcom took a fan made game that would have been made available to the public regardless (i.e. using Streets of Rage Remake V5 logic) and now they're releasing it as their own.

This is not their game and they're touting it as if it belongs to them. Let's be careful about granting them credit they don't deserve.

@metroidhunterx  @twrexx yea, my kids who arent even in school were up after  11pm....obviously you dont have kids and probably havent seen the reciprocal side of your gender since your own birth.I have plenty of time to put you in your place, it only takes a moment. You in all your knowledge dont think Capcom has an engine of an 8-bit capability? THAT is all.run along to school now, boy.

metroidhunterx
metroidhunterx

@twrexx  @metroidhunterx Glad you found the time between working that busy Wal-Mart mid-shift and playing father-of-the-year to rebut little old me.  If you're so adamant about your supposed indifference toward the game, just what in the hell is your point then?  You're bitching about people bitching about a game?  Invest YOUR time free of charge, get burned and tell me these people don't have every right to have such a bitter taste in their mouths.  Based on your glaring misconception of the game industry, you probably don't understand that in licensing this game, regardless that they are releasing it free of charge, Capcom is most likely acquiring the engine that this fan created -- not that they would need it, but time costs money, and that would be a whole lot less time and money for Capcom to have to spend if they wanted to repurpose the engine for their own needs.  That is all.

@metroidhunterx how curious, that you took the time to reply, yet have no concept of time. Notice, it was after 11pm when I made my previous response. My kids are in bed and have been for hours. so yea, while I am here in my bed, I do have a moment to put you in your place. Next -Capcom. When did I elevate them? You seem to be the clown with a host fit because they aren't kissing your ass. Poor child, like I said, maybe you need to take a timeout. I've done everything but elevate them, stating that they are just a game company, and not supplying grain to Ethiopia. As for the creator, I've given his props as well. The most I've said about Capcom is tha they put a direct link to the game, and help advertise it for which I'm sure the creator is thankful. Onto school now boy, don't forget your lunch money.

metroidhunterx
metroidhunterx

@twrexx How curious, then, that you've taken time out of your apparently packed schedule of changing diapers and balancing your checkbook to reply to each and every one of my responses.  You're the one that presumed I wouldn't have heard about this game, so do not get offended that your own ineptitude prevents you from being afforded the simple and common ability of typing just a few words into a search engine.  This bears repeating since you are apparently unable to employ the use of rational thought: You fail at providing any logical reason why all the wrong things Capcom has done to ruin the trust of its consumers should be so easily disregarded when they are presenting to us a piece of software that was well on its way to being a completed game, and have had nothing to do with the development of it.  Play the game, by all means, I never said not to.  Your confidence in Capcom, and not the person who actually put in the time, effort and passion to create this game, is what disturbs me.  On top of that, you claim that we should all hoist Capcom up onto our shoulders and praise them for their hard work... You know, because they TOTALLY put in a lot of effort, hosting it and all.

twrexx
twrexx

@metroidhunterx well, let me touch you twice. High and mighty much? You act like they feed the hungry. They are a game company, and if your panties get that twisted, maybe you should put the controller down. Fine. Dont play it, I will, and I'll enjoy it. See, I have a family, obligations, responsibilities that preclude me from scouring the internet to be one of the special few such as yourself who can be considered the hipsters of the gaming world. For every person you say already knew about it, there are ten, twenty who didnt. Please try and tell me that Capcom putting this on their site does not help the game and the creator's visibility.yea....thought so

metroidhunterx
metroidhunterx

@twrexx Actually, I DID hear about it BEFORE it was picked up by Capcom.  Sift through comments on this page and you'll find that a lot of other people ALSO knew of its existence before Capcom decided to pretend they were doing us all a favor by slapping their name on it and presenting it as an anniversary gift.  Also, do a little research on Capcom's history with its Mega Man series as-of-late.  Do you presume that the people that were wronged by Capcom's questionable practices should display the slightest modicum of gratitude for simply allowing someone else, someone more dedicated to their games than they are, to release a game that would have been released anyway?  The answer is no.  I respect the developer of this game, and the NUMEROUS other Mega Man fan games that are currently in development for their resolve, but I do not respect Capcom for pretending we should be grateful to THEM for something they didn't even create.

twrexx
twrexx

@metroidhunterx  @ABEzilla116 but we dont really know what the level of involvement is/was, do we? We do know that Capcom is showcasing it, putting a link up to it, and giving it to the masses for enjoyment, or apparently, ingratitude.Whether they directly financially supported it or not? Who knows, but its up on an official company website, one could argue that is worth more than any modest dollar amount. Especially to the creator.

metroidhunterx
metroidhunterx

@ABEzilla116  @twrexx Capcom's level of involvement likely meant simply approving of its creation.  I highly doubt a single dollar was donated toward the development of this.
