Given your budget, I would go 1080p / 144 hz and just sit a couple extra inches back. The fluidity of 144 hz is astounding, especially once you play with it for a while and then try to go back to 60 Hz.

I don't know why this needs to be said, but here goes:

Games have minimum requirements. There are many places you can go to learn these requirements. Before putting down money for a AAA game, it is advisable to always check and double check the minimum requirements from a reputable source (the website of the company that made the game, perhaps?).

Having to worry about minimum requirements is the price you pay for not keeping your system up-to-date, so you might consider becoming a regular lurker at a site like Anandtech or Tom's Hardware if you plan to be a PC gamer who plays the latest games.

Welcome to the fold! Stay a while, things are nicer here.

Get a mid-tier Logitech, Steelseries, Razer, etc. mouse, GTX 970, and gsync monitor if you can afford it. The initial investment stings a little, but Steam sales and the pure pleasure quotient of PC playing makes up for it.

This isn't rocket science. F2P games have been around for a while now.

Rule: money should only buy cosmetic things and quality of life things: outfits, hairstyles, housing, etc. Things that give you a gameplay advantage are no bueno.

There should be a law that allows someone to come into your house and smack you forcefully across the face if you buy a game during launch week. Very forcefully.

I sincerely wish they were. We would get the super crazy high budget games we get now? No. Would the gameplay get deeper and more satisfying? Most likely.

Honestly, I feel the whole rush to 4K is rather premature. The biggest problem for gamers is going to be the lack of UI scaling in most games. Developers don't have a lot of incentive to create UIs that scale up to a resolution that very very few gamers are capable of using at the moment. 4K is very pretty, but I think we are going to be stuck with 2560 X 1440p for a couple more years yet. Gsync/Freesync should help us enjoy ourselves in the meantime.

I am personally holding off on playing for another six months, but that is only because it seems like most games nowadays take about that long to get the level of polish that I like. I'm the kind of person who really gets into a game, plays it through two or three times, and then never touches it again unless there is a great big expansion pack that makes it worth it.

Although, it does certainly seem that Wasteland 2 has been released in a much more complete state than a lot of other games lately. I may have to go against my policy this time because I am really itching to play it...

Shoot. Forgot about including an Early Access option!

I usually wait 6 months myself. I like to get as complete a game as possible, which usually means waiting for several patches. It's a bonus that games get cheaper as time goes on.

Why would anybody be playing this game right now when we all know mods will be released for it that make it look much, much better within six months' time?
