@Smokescreened84 I agree with you that they shouldn't force thing on you in games. BUT, the way games are made these days (the vast majority), it's all so commercial! Have you seen the budgets they use to make advertisement for the game they are trying to sell? They are double or sometimes TRIPLE the amount of the initial cost of the game development. And I can really understand why some people(Who don't use violence) who buy, for instance Dragon Age 2, get infuriated at the developers , who put millions and millions in advertising, release a game with so many flaws. I've raised myself the same question; "Wooohoo I've finally got Dragon Age 2! Let's start the playing!, WTH IS THIS CRAP? How could they fail this bad? They've got a huge budget and come up with this peace of sh*t" The game has absolutely no deep combat whatsoever, shallow quests and almost no freedom. Which audience likes this? Yes the casuals, because when they get home, they want to get right into the game, don't want to learn, button mash and have no challenge at all. I however like a moderate degree of freedom, a deep and compelling story and some amount of character customizability and above all a challenge, yes it's what is called a "RPG" Play games like Demons Soul's and you know what it really tastes like to overcome a difficult part in the game. You will be amazed.
The people who did this should be prosecuted for their action. But honestly... ask yourself this question; What is the main difference in a game and a movie? I think that they should not merge these 2 things together. Why you ask? Well because I'm afraid that in about 10 years the casual gaming market is sooo enormously large, that most publishers will try to aim for that group and make every published game as accessable as possible! I hear alot of people saying(when talking about an old game) "They don't make them like that anymore", "Games nowadays are too easy", "The gaming emphasis is mostly on multiplayer in these days". I DO NOT approve the actions of those individuals but that doesn't prove them wrong of the fact that every game is turning into "a forgivable Sims game/movie". I play games because I want to be CHALLENGED, they only 2 games who did that thus far(in the past decade) are the Ninja Gaiden and Demons Souls(Dark Souls is easier trust me) If you want to watch a movie, go to a cinema... /end rant
Ok, fire this Kaz Hirai. He says he plans to let the PS3 last for atleast 10 years, this is ridiculous! The Playstation 3 was released in 2006 which means it will stay here until atleast 2016. He also said he wants to shift to a software only company. If this happens, prices for Xbox games/hardware will skyrocket because then Microsoft will have a (another)monopoly on the hardcore gaming market. If Hirai is really going to do what he says, I think I might give up on consoles and stay with my trustworthy PC.
I have a gaming PC and a PS3, but I prefer the PC. The only reason I have a PS3 is that I love the PS3 exclusives. I will never buy a console game that is also on the PC. The controls on the PC are better, the graphics and the modability. You might say, what about an action game like Darksiders? Playing an action game with a keyboard sucks! True, that's why I have a Xbox 360 controller for windows. :)
@mrchiledonut I'm sorry, but that's just wishful thinking. And btw, Sony and Microsoft will always fight for the graphical throne, something what is entirely out of Nintendo's league... well they just don't need it or don't care. Nintendo sells millions anyway.
Shogun 2 was fun, but after 30 hours or so I had conquered whole Japan on normal difficulty. So the scope of the map has been reduced significantly. This shouldn't be a too big problem if there was a great variety of units, but sadly there isn't. So the overall replayability of this game is very little. All the factions have the same units except for some "faction only ones" like the Chosokabe archers or the Date Samurai but then again not anything special. So you might say, what? 30 hours dude! That's like 3x more gameplay value than CoD! True, but compare this to my whopping 150 hours on Empire Total War!
Why is there even a feature for this? Starcraft 2 is a perfectly programmed game, the engine doesn't require much resources from your hardware. If you do have problems playing this game on normal settings, you can get a rig at around for 650-700€ Which should run the game at atleast High(at bare minimum!). My rig is now about 3 years old and I can run everything at Ultra settings. It was state of the art back then though.
If i was going to upgrade the internal drive of the PS3 i wouldve gone for the 256Gb but thats still way to much money for a HDD. Anyway 256Gb is still dwarfed by 2x 500 Gb in my PC so it's definitely not worth the money to upgrade to SSD imo. You could ofcourse, buy a 60 Gb drive and use it as OS Disk though.
