Totally agree with Danny on this one, as a hardcore gamer it was really obvious where my money was gonna go after E3. I've bought a sports game maybe 3 times in 15 years, I've totally stopped playing COD, I play Halo for the story not the multiplayer and so overall I was pretty quick to say so long to Microsoft when they all they talked about at E3 was COD, EA Sports and watching TV and sports through your Xbox LIVE. The Kinect sensor which I don't want and the $100 more dollars I don't want to spend along with PS+ being $10 less a year than XBL just kinda tipped me over the edge in favor of PS4.
Oh believe me I know all this, I'm just saying that account security is still a major issue for a lot of people and its really one of the biggest reasons MS points or PSN points exist at all. I'm sure if we weren't worried about account security a lot more people would consider buying online. But you're absolutely right, why go out and buy points in order to buy a digital copy when you could buy the disc at the store instead, especially when internet connectivity and portability are concerns? Moving everything digital is currently not the way to go and good on Sony for acknowledging the issues surrounding going digital.
I think the reason people are buying physical copies has a lot to do with network security. A lot of people are still very tentative about handing out credit card info over Xbox Live or the Playstation Network. Privacy Policies and assurances from the companies that our info is protected is not going to immediately sway everyone into trusting the system.
Sony was clearly not being a bully, they were doing what every business does: telling the customers what they want to hear. Microsoft however could be accused of bullying consumers with the ridiculous restrictions they imposed. Now they think they can make everything better by reversing what I personally thought were the less bothersome restrictions, to me being forced to buy kinect making the console $100 more expensive is the real deal breaker. 100 bucks makes a huge difference to me and I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same way
Too little too late, I'll be taking my gaming business to Sony for the first time since PS 1. Goodbye Master Chief, my old friend, it was fun while it lasted
