Honestly while I like the staff a gamespot still, there is clearly a issue with their boss, John Larson.

After hearing the interesting rant by "gamespot" earlier and then it being confirmed by one of the staff makes me think that as long as John Larson is heading gamespot, advertiser's input will always apply pressure on gamespot and its staff.

If you haven't seen the "gamespot" post on valleywag you should, its not CNET's fault, its not Gamespot's editorial fault, it's John Larson fault.

His idea of "synergery" between advertising and editioral teams flashes in the face of journalistic integrity and clearly that idea needs to go.

Thanks guys!

Hey all,

I'm a networking technologies major doing a research paper on online gaming's various infrastructures. I was specifically looking into the cases of World of Warcraft and Xbox live. I read a topic on here a while ago saying that Halo 3 multiplayer was p2p based, and that it used microsoft's matchmaking servers to connect players.

I was wondering if anyone could point me to any documentation of the process Halo 3 or any xbox live game goes through concerning matchmaking and online play.

Any information(with a reputable link), or pointers of finding such information would be greatly appreciated. If someone happens to know a resource that describes ps3's networking procedures/protocols feel free to chime in!!

Thanks guys!

Hey all, while you all probably have heard the unfortunate news about Jeff, and seen the absolute carnage taking place on the interwebs. What really disgusts me is that GAMESPOT HAS STILL MADE NO OFFICIAL RESPONSE OF THE SITUATION ON THEIR SITE!

Many of us are huge fans of gamespot and its staff and it's absolutely infuriating that the information we have been given is from blogs, forums, and what else.

As a big fan of gamespot, following the site and its features (hotspot and On The Spot) since I could remember, I can't stand that nothing has been announced officially.

We are big fans of the site and we demand/plead to know what officially happened and why! I don't want to hear it from comic strips, forums, blogs, or moderators. Jeff is a vital part of the site and the community, yet the best information we can get is through here say?!?! UNACCEPTABLE!

As was noted before this week's on the spot did no air, for obvious reasons. (Jeff Gerstmann was unjustly fired for perserving his Journalistic integrity regarding the exchange of money and withdrawl of such by Eidos and CNET).

"For those of you who have heard. Jeff gerstman is fired. I guess in firing jeff they were forced to cancle this weeks on the spot. Who here still wants this weeks on the spot. I know if i were a paying subscriber id be angry at the unprofessionalism of this ordeal. for a company to allow its matters to take away from other things with in is just that, unprofessional. sorry if its seems mean, i love gamespot just kinda dissapointed in the fact that this has to ruin other things, such as the Soap Box and On The Spot. "

Anyway I want to know what's going to happen to On the Spot, and the Hotspot. Has this been in the workings for a while or will this ordeal put both on a hiatus! What will happen to future reviews, what about the games coming out next week!?!?!

Is Gamespot going to make an official announcement on the site?

This year its changed up as explained by the previous posts. GOTY now works by whoever pays the most for advertising and positive reviews. I believe it was let loose earlythat Kane and Lynchis schedueled to be a contender. =D

Hilary Goldstein the chief editor over at ign xbox 360, gave a pretty harsh review of assassin's creed (mocking some parts even), but the ign staff stood by his take on the game despite lambasting from critics.

Gamespot, this is outrageous, not standing by one of the core people who made gamespot great is dispicable! Jeff was really the only thing left that kept hotspot and on the spot going, CNET was it worth it, was it really worth it?

Poor form gamespot, poor form indeed, cnet and this whole ordeal makes me sick!
