I can really see the nostalgia value in this, especially with the retro controllers.

I wish I could rationalise buying one, but I can't. It misses some of the games that were key to my childhood. In fact some of the games they miss are first party games.

It's strange they limit the system to just 30 games as more of their own first party games would tap onto even more peoples nostalgia.

Pinball might not be that great but it's part of my childhood and it's far better than ice climbers. They published Kung Fu, but I don't know if they have the rights. Also not great, but it's of nostalgic importance to me. Super off road was third party but back in the day it was my favourite NES multiplayer game and would have been a nice addition for that reason.

Then there are the many great NES games I discovered later in life though emulation.

If it had the 100 NES games I'm ever going to real bother playing on emulator I'd get one. That and a longer controller lead (or, better still, wireless) and I'd consider it worth more than double the price.

Gamexplain seems to think the emulation is good quality with much better visuals and sound than the Wii U's NES emulation, so that's an important plus.

Overall, not worth it to me but if anyone wants to buy me one as a xmas present I won't complain.

@inso-maniac: Yea, I loved the original Mario 64 and collected all 120 stars when that came out. This version, with the added stars and other changes, let me relive the exploration side of the game.

It's a shame about the d-pad controls but you forget about them eventually. DS games aren't ideal on Wii U though. Very low resolution any obviously not built for that form factor. They should have put it, and other ds games, on 3ds eshop.

@ZIMdoom: 1. yep. the internet is talking about the nx and abuzz with speculation. the wii u by contrast was getting a lot of negative press at this point.

2. If it's a hand held it's a hand held. I don't know what you mean by not viewed as a handheld. The rumours about its specs are the same rumours that say it's a handheld.

4. "every Nintendo console, aside from Wii, has sold worse than the past." Not true of their handheld consoles.

I don't know how dependant their console are on third parties. We'd all like to be able play the 3rd parties on the consoles, of course. Fact is though, if you look at the top selling 3ds games (a console that got a reasonable number of third party games) All there top ten are 1st or 2nd party games with the exception of monster hunter. Even when a popular Nintendo console get a good number of third party exclusives people buy Nintendo's stuff first.

It's true that if a Nintendo console is popular it gets third parties but it's a chicken egg question. Unless you go back to the snes I don't think any of their consoles are popular because of third parties. They aren't trying to play the same game as Sony and Microsoft. If people want those games they'll get those consoles or a pc.

If Nintendo did try and compete in that crowded area and release a boring "ordinary" neo-esk console, as many online commentators wish, they would fail hard and they know it. They're trying to be something different so they don't directly compete and this is where they've been successful.

They're probably going after tablet gamers and second console/pc gamers, as well as the normal Nintendo fans. The group with the biggest potential of growth is the tablet gamers. Huge numbers of people are gaming on expensive tablets and they're simply not great for gaming. I think the issue is tablets aren't just for gaming they're for social media and kids aren't going to opt for an NX over a tablet unless they can use social apps such as musical.ly. If it has some level of android app compatibility that would be a big deal.

Labyrinth system?? Their online seemed pretty straight forward to me... and it's free. True, that they don't have universal voice chat or achievements (unless you count stickers). But it's far from the mess it use to be.

@ZIMdoom: 1. Wait for them to reveal the nx before you judge how well they reviled the nx. In the mean time all the internet buzz about the nx seems to be positive as long as the reveal doesn't look disappointing in comparison.
2. The NX sounds over-powered for a handheld... from the rumours. But all we have are rumours.
3. Relax, carts don't cost that much.
4. He states software as an issue with the wii u. I don't know how well it'll get third party games but if it's a hand held it'll definitely get Japanese third parties and, as Nintendo will eventually only have one console to make games on, it could have double the first party games.

It's just seems so topsy-turvy that when you see a really visually striking and interesting looking game your first thought is always 'indie'.

@IanNottinghamX: No. The first game didn't have real bosses. Just strong, plot relevant, characters you got to know before you got to kill them (and you had some choice in when you killed them) and you could kill them in different ways eg. a challenging gun fight, a kill phase or a quick blast of a rocket launcher.

Human revolution messed up the open nature of the game by forcing in these contrived boss moments with characters who we knew nothing about and were only included for the purpose of being bosses. It was throwing away what was great with the first and replacing it with comparatively generic gameplay.

@eilegz: I get that you don't like prime, but calling it a halo wannabe is nonsensical.

Other than the fact they're both first person sci-fis, they couldn't be more different. Have you never played another fps?

Prime has more in common with old school shooters like Quake and Duke nukem in that they have labyrinth like environments to explore with collectable health and meaningful hidden items. The game is broken up by what are effectively keys; forcing exploration to progress.

Halo is in the style of more modern shooter with streamlined, almost non stop, action and power armor.

They're pretty much deserving of entirely different genres.

Wow. If it's true that 2/3 of their server resources were spent on these sites then closing them seems unavoidable. It would explain why the game had been suffering so much sever strain.

@untouchables111: Some want to play whilst going about their own business and are happy to level and catch pokemon at the rate that game was designed for.... Others want to 100% as fast as possible so they can stop playing that god awful game.
