Yes, you can include the X series in the discussion. Here are my own answers: 1. Who were your 5 favourite classic Megaman Robot Masters? Shadow Man, Quick Man, Needle Man, Pharaoh Man, and Metal Man 2. What were your 5 favourite stages? Needle Man, Flash Man, Crash Man, Gravity Man, and Bubble Man 3. What were your 5 favourite special weapons/power-ups? Metal Blade, Gemini Laser, Centaur Flash, Atomic Fire, and Needle Cannon 4. What were your 5 favourite songs in the classic series (regular or Wily stages)? MM2 Wily Stage 1, MM3 Intro, Dust Man, Flash Man, and Needle Man (Snake Man, Metal Man, Bubble Man, Spark Man, MM5 Intro, and the MM3 Wily Stages are honorable mentions) 5. Did you ever come up with an idea for your own robot master that should have been in one of the games? If so, what are his abilities and powers and what is his stage like? Laser Man, who shoots laser beams at you. He also turns into himself and bounces around the room off the walls and hits you, before reforming and firing more laser shots. 6. Does anyone have hard feelings toward Capcom for how they have turned their back on this series? I wasn't happy with the droppings of Legends. All further works were scrapped with the leaving of Inafune, and there was that insulting "Bad Box Art Megaman" in the new SFXT game. I know there was the SFXMM game for PC but that was more or less fan-made with the approval of Capcom. If Capcom truly cared for the series, I believe they would have ported the game to WII, PSN, and XBL for download. It appears the future is bleak for the series.

Do we have any other Megaman fans on here? I grew up on the series. Finally I discovered the X series in 4th grade. Such great memories... Especially of MM2 and MM3. Anyhow I have a few fun questions to invoke discussion. 1. Who were your 5 favourite classic Megaman Robot Masters? 2. What were your 5 favourite stages? 3. What were your 5 favourite special weapons/power-ups? 4. What were your 5 favourite songs in the classic series (regular or Wily stages)? 5. Did you ever come up with an idea for your own robot master that should have been in one of the games? If so, what are his abilities and powers and what is his stage like? 6. Does anyone have hard feelings toward Capcom for how they have turned their back on this series?

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will likely try one of these. Man, I wish Xenoblade Chronicles was not so scarce. I kick myself daily for not buying it when it came out. (Note to self: next time a critically acclaimed RPG comes out, buy a few copies and keep them in its original packaging) Does anyone have any experience with The Last Story for Wii? It actually looks quite promising. The reviews were good overall. Thanks!

Your desire for an awesome story suggests Xenogears. I just finished it and in my opinion, it is the greatest RPG ever made. You can download it from the Playstation Store for $10 and it's worth every dollar. If you want to finish the game in 40 hours instead of 80, download a save online with the main character's stats maxed out at the beginning of the game. Although I recommend playing it through fully.

I am recovering from a recent surgery and I'm probably going to be out of work another 8 or so weeks. I just finished Xenogears and I have to be honest here: I was completely immersed in the game. I have FF IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, and XII, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Xenosaga, Vagrant Story, Breath of Fire, Etc but I never got so deeply immersed in any of them like Xenogears. Part of that may be due to the fact that I am a man with a family who normally works a full-time job at 10 hours a day and this is the first time I've really had enough TIME to get into such a game in years. Sitting around here with nothing to do, I played through this game for the second time (the last was 12 or 13 years ago) and I am amazed at just how involved I was in the game. I was captivated by the story, the characters, everything in the game. I even fought the urge to scream and throw my controller in a fit of rage in some of the frustrating dungeons(Unlike a certain 2008 Megaman release). Parts of the story had me furious and parts were simply heart wrenching to me, especially with that masterful soundtrack. I find this very odd because this doesn't really suit my personality. XG was THAT good of a game. Now I'm in a dilemma. Now that I've finished XG, I have ALL THIS TIME and I don't know what to try. I'm getting bored out of my mind here. The problem for me is that I have no interest in playing any of the Final Fantasy games. I have beaten my favorites (IV, VI, VII, VIII, and IX) numerous times and I'm bored with them at this point. I have disliked everything Square Enix has produced since IX. And while Xenosaga is nice, the lack of depth compared to Xenogears is kind of like eating baloney when you've gotten used to Filet Mignon. The same goes for most of the other RPGs out there that I've played. They just don't compare to the depth, complexity, and substance (sounds like someone pretentious describing coffee doesn't it) of Xenogears. And I really don't desire to play a lesser game. So, many of you out there have kept up with the gaming world much more than I have. You know your stuff when it comes to games and you've played and beaten the best. Here's what I ask of you: What are some games of the same genre that won't pale in comparison? I love a good story. Good gameplay is a must. Replay value. And a great cast of characters. But I don't want another shallow RPG with a weak story. I want the real thing. I know you guys have some good recommendations. I'd like to hear them. I have the following consoles to play them on: PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii, PSP, NES, SNES, GENESIS, and PC. I look forward to your input! Tedward

I've played many RPGs and Xenogears is by far my favorite. Story depth, gameplay, characters, music, etc. I haven't found much that compares.

I'm taking a few months off work to recover from a recent surgery. With an excess of time on my hands, I just played through Xenogears for the 2nd time, and for the first time in 12 years. I have found myself fully immersed in the game and have found it to be extremely enjoyable. The most obvious reason I like this game is the story. Some have complained about its complexities, calling it "confusing, convoluted," etc. I disagree. The story is more complex than most but this game was made for a more mature player to be able to understand it. While the dialogue might not convey it perfectly this game delves into some of the deepest themes ever covered, even in classical literature. The balance of politics and religion is reminiscent of Dune by Frank Herbert. There was as much depth in the field of psychology as my college Psychology-101 class, if not maybe a little more. You often find themes of loss of loved ones, betrayal, forgiveness, and of course, love. These might all be covered in the plots of many other RPGs, but none to the extent of Xenogears and none were done half as masterfully. Parts of the story will have you furious and half will have you holding back tears. The sheer length of the game lets you immerse yourself in a game twice as long as Final Fantasy VII with twice the depth, character development, and substance. I found myself completely immersed in the game and its story. It also had a very good and fitting ending. Another great thing about this game is the character ensemble. I found most to be very genuine and not too much of an RPG cliche. Again, depth and character development is a huge factor here. You will find many Freudian and Jungian theories and principles worked out in the lives of Xenogears' characters. I also liked that there was no whiny, emo-esque, grumpy hero (ie Cloud, Squall, Lightning, etc). Some events in their lives you will be able to foresee, but for the most part, they will surprise you time and time again. Gameplay was revolutionary. There are two different types of battles: fighting hand-to-hand and fighting in your giant, Mech-like "Gear." It offered plenty of variety and challenge. There are dozens of different attacks, combos, and "deathblows" your character can perform. Bosses are challenging and fun to fight. The menus were easy to navigate and FAR less complicated than Final Fantasy VII or VIII. The game's music was outstanding. The individual songs/tracks were always appropriate for the situation at hand. I believe they did a better job with the soundtrack than most any other game. I would rank the composition right up there with Final Fantasy VI, VII, and Chrono Trigger. A couple of the tunes fit so well with the game's melancholy overtures that you may find yourself getting a little too emotionally involved in the game. This is intended. Replay value is another factor in my praise of this game. The average RPG takes 30-50 hours to beat without cheating. Xenogears takes much longer. I believe I read the average time to complete this game is 80 hours. For $10 on the PSN store, that is getting the most for your money. Did I mention the depth of the game blows any RPG I've ever played out of the water? Let me emphasize that again to make sure.
