Game of the Year is almost here. This last week of waiting is going to be hell after these reviews.

Ah, Polygon. It is pretty true that Nintendo was the only one of the 'big three' to have much in the way of worthwhile titles this year. None of them stand out to me though since even as fun as MK8 and Smash are they add nothing to their respective franchises aside from FINALLY getting online play. Personally I think this was the year Blizzard returned to form. Hearthstone, the most successful WoW expansion since Wrath of the Lich King, and fixing Diablo 3 with the expansion. All pretty great accomplishments and excellent games.

• Navi isn't annoying, I have never understood the hate for her.
• Wind Waker is the worst 3D Zelda other than possibly Skyward Sword (which I haven't been able to play yet).
• The Arkham games are good, not great.
• Bethesda hasn't made a truly great or arguably even good game since Morrowind, which has aged terribly.
• No game in the Final Fantasy series is truly in the running for best JRPG aside from maybe VI or IX, even then only a spot on the list at best. Not even best JRPG made by Squaresoft.
• Mass Effect 2 is the least interesting game in the trilogy.
• Super Mario 64 is still the most fun 3D Mario.
• Final Fantasy VII is not the best Final Fantasy, it was just many people's first JRPG.
• Demon's Souls is my favorite Souls game so far.

Yeah sure. Difficulty doesn't always have to correlate directly to enjoyment after all. Sometimes I just want to play something relatively easy and relaxing. Or I'm just playing through it for the story. The Mass Effect series for example is a chore to play on higher difficulties because every enemy is suddenly an insane bullet sponge all the time. That's not fun for me. The challenge of something like Call of Duty 4 on Veteran however is right up my alley.

• Bethesda hasn't made a good game since Morrowind.
• Mass Effect 2 is the worst of the trilogy (though still great).
• Naughty Dog is the most consistently excellent developer right now, tied with Valve.
• GTA IV is fantastic.
• Final Fantasy 7 is good not great.
• Anyone who thinks Crysis was only good for its graphics must not have played it.

Binary Domain was pretty horrific.

Looking forward to playing this at 1080p and 60 FPS. Sorry to hear about the performance the consoles are getting, sounds like it'll still be plenty playable though.

Man Microsoft really cannot sell anyone on their 'vision' for console gaming. First they had to dump all their always-online crap and now this. At least they're willing to change I guess, that or unwilling to take the sales hits it causes. Looks like we're going right back to last gen now.

Really tough call between 1 and 2. Went with 2 in the end. All of the main ones are great though barring Fallout 3. Man that was a bad game.
