@mrbojangles25: What? We're literally on a story talking about changes to the re-release of the game. If there's any time to talk about the terrible ending these days, it's here and now.

And yeah. The ending was trash. It's not a matter of "not the ending we wanted", it's a matter of being lazily written, poorly done, and forcing you to go against the themes of the previous games.

The Extended Cut DLC was a band-aid over it that fixed the most egregious issues (like the entire setting being destroyed due to Mass Relays blowing up, and your entire squad essentially dying soon after). But it doesn't fix the core issues of the Starchild, the Reaper's nonsensical motivations, and the fact that you're basically playing into their hands (And if you refuse to do that, you just get a lazy auto-lose ending). Oh, and Shepard's utterly pointless sacrifice in 2/3 of the endings.

@md3blue: Uhhh.

So one problem is that they're profiting off of the death of a developer. They're absolutely allowed to make a tribute to their friend or whatever, that's not the issue. The issue is that the publisher is making money off of his death while pretending like they're doing it because it's a good thing to do.

A second problem is that the money only goes to the family if you buy from one of 44 US states. Buying from Canada? Buying from Germany? Buying from Japan? WB pockets the entire amount of money.

And off of that, the third problem? This isn't really fully disclosed anywhere. Plenty of people seem to be happy to buy this DLC, thinking the money is mostly going to a good cause. Problem: They're outside of the US, so while they *think* their money is going to a good cause, in reality WB is just pocketing it.

This is remarkably scummy of WB. They could've donated the full amount (in the US). They could've taken the total revenue amount that they earn from outside the US, and made a charitable donation. But no, in the grand scheme of things, of all the sales, they're donating a relatively tiny amount and just keeping the rest for their own bottom line, while acting like it's a big, generous charitable thing.

Man charging for that would've been hilarious. A quick band-aid fix to superficial problems with the ending, completely ignoring the core issues (and including an FU to people who recognized those problems, in the form of the Rejection ending)?

The ending on its own was bad enough. Extended Cut was a marginal improvement that would have been a huge rip-off if they'd tried to sell it.

Man, too bad. I was really anticipating this game. Looked awesome, and has a cool setting... so much potential.

Now I find out it's just shooter? A linear, cinematic shooter at that? Like I haven't had enough of those games in the past few years. Guess I'm knocking this one off my list, unless I find out it's absolutely amazing.

MMOs don't work in the US? Couldn't be because everyone is chasing the WoW-dollar and cloning that game over and over, could it?

Honestly, might as well say FPSes don't work in the US, because none of the CoD clones have been nearly as successful as that game.

Does this fix the atrocity of the ending? No? Just delays the inevitable disaster? Guess I'm skipping this DLC too.

Pity, before ME3's release, I fully planned to buy every single DLC, after finally buying all of the (main) DLC's for ME2 piecemail, in half a dozen playthroughs. Then I beat ME3. Swore off any DLC until the ending was fixed. If this is the last, looks like I won't be buying any DLC at all.

Obsidian's a fantastic company, and probably my favorite RPG-producer (though CDProjektRed is up there). They tend to produce sequels to other IPs, yes, but those sequels also tend to be way better than the original... KotOR2 > KotOR1 (aside from being unfinished, which was more LucasArt's fault), NWN2 >>>> NWN1, FONV > FO3...

They do have an issue with buggy games, for various reasons, so I think that's why they get a lot of hate. Quite a shame. Still, I'd love to see another Fallout game from them.

Calling it ME4 would be a disservice, because then it'd be associated with the awful ending to ME3. Thanks to that game, I'm ultra-wary of any future Bioware RPG. Last thing I want is to struggle through all of the game, finally get to a climactic ending... and realize it was all like, a computer simulation, and nothing I did was actually real or impactful (within the setting mind you, so the player character would be discovering this). I'm actually betting on an ending like this for DA3: A sentient AI did it! The Darkspawn are just a computer virus!
Hopefully they learn from the mistakes and give us more proper, quality ME games. I'll be wary nonetheless, waiting until reviewers I trust talk about it, as Bioware has lied plenty of times before about their games. If it's good though, and my fears are unfounded, I'll pick it up.

Hopefully it's either set way, way before Mass Effect (like the Krogan Rebellions or the Rachni Wars) or it's set a couple hundred years after, with minimal references to the previous games. And regardless, I don't want to play as a boring human soldier again. Let me play as an Asari Commando, or a Turian Soldier, or something like that, in single player.

I guess Microsoft doesn't actually like money. Who knew?

I mean it's not like Halo 1-3 are "system sellers" for the Xbox anymore. No one's going to buy an Xbox 360 just to play Halo 3. So might as well squeeze a bit of extra cash from these games, by releasing them on PC, and tapping into a market that potentially has no access to Halo (or like me, wants to play them and has the console, but hates playing FPS using a controller).
