New details on PS4 game The Order: 1886 emerge

Ready at Dawn reveals game will be story-focused third-person action shooter with "filmic" feel.

Ready at Dawn has revealed new details on The Order: 1886, the all-new PlayStation 4 game announced during Sony's E3 briefing earlier this month.

In an interview on the PlayStation Blog, Ready at Dawn cofounder Ru Weerasuriya explained that The Order: 1886 is a third-person action shooter. He described it as "linear" and story-based with an overall "filmic" presentation.

"With this game we replicated a lot of physical attributes. We have true lens distortion. We built physical lenses into our engine so we could get something where people will look it and not be totally disconnected," Weerasuriya said. "Games have a tendency sometimes to be too clean and crisp. We thrive in the dirt. We just love the fact that it feels dirty. It’s filmed in a very realistic way."

The Order: 1886 is set on London 40 years after the Industrial Revolution. Though the game will not feature a 1:1 mapping of London, Weerasuriya explained that the studio is attempting to "stay as true as possible" to it.

No mention was made of a multiplayer component. The Order: 1886 is in development exclusively for PS4, though no release date for the game has been announced.

Game looks real bad - the concept itself, I mean.

It's going to be a fun/light affair. I don't feel something giant is cooking up in here.

Has potential, seems interesting, will have to wait and see. Lightning gun seems pretty tight.

I'm not convinced that this will be good. A flashy trailer doesn't say anything about what the game will be like. God, does anyone remember White Knight Chronicles? I'll wait for reviews, but won't hold my breath.

Also this game may suffer from the yet another shooter syndrome

I almost fear that this game is going to suffer from the first gen syndrome.

LOL.

"Let me investigate this bloody helmet. I wonder what happened here."
The dude was INSIDE THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED.
It's obvious the driver was killed by a creature, WTF good does bending down and picking up the helmet do except leave you temporarily exposed?
Do game devs actually know how people behave in real life or do they watch movies created by morons and just try to spoon feed that bullshit back to us?
*sigh*

"He described it as 'linear' and story-based with an overall 'filmic' presentation." That could work out really well, despite people not liking the word "linear" or the buzzword "filmic", but it's easier to fail at it as well. There's a big risk that it simply results in something boring that you don't like experiencing even once.

All in all, I'm excited for the PS4. I think it will be more sophisticated this time around. This is what Sony's been wanting to do all along, kick ass. I cannot wait for this beast of a console to come out.

This developer made some amazing games on the PSP.
I can't wait to see what they are doing on PS4 but  I love what I've seen of the engine and I like the setting very much. If there was a developer that could get at the same awesome level as Naughty Dog it would be Ready at Dawn.

This looks awesome. I want the option to play as the monsters too. :)~

3rd person action.....Ah yes lets make a game with a 'dying perspective' and camera problems. Before any haters comment I said 'dying' as in currently, not 'dead'.

i wasnt impressed at e3, but now its looking interesting. still, i want an original VITA god of war!!!

The game could get a higher score if it was not too linear, however I'm impressed on the work for sure. So much to look forward to!

It may be a glorified and shiny version of Hellgate London, but more linear. Hellgate could have been so much more...

In words: an ARPG hack and slash/shooter with lots of QTEs.

QTES really ought to fuck off and die; I am hugely enjoying Tomb Raider but the stupid QTEs taint it a little- thank god there aren't THAT many.

MVan86

Free tip for Ready for Dawn in terms, when you say 'filmic' please mean proper cut scenes or in game exposition NOT lots of QTEs like in Ryse...
Overall I love the look of the this game and hope it'll meet its potential.

This game is Sony's attempt at a Gears of War rip off. and I would also bet that God of War is now dead and abandoned too.

Looks awesome, and thank "God" it's a thirs-person shooter

I hate first person shooter -_- I need to see the character moving and dodging around

Yeah, linear games can be awesome. But too much linearity is not. I'm still exited for this, but I hope that next-gen gaming won't take a turn for linear games.
I really loved the Last of Us (one of the best experiences ever imo), finished it twice in 4 days, but now I just want to play a game like fallout to feel like I have a choice as to where to go or what to do.

Can't wait for this. I really dig the demonic-foggy-London styles of this game.

I LOVE linear games! (no sarcasm) I really do love them!...Both linear and open-world games have their own different flavors!....This game looks really ambitious! :D

Don't understand why people seem to think this is a launch title. That has never been said and I've gotten the impression that we won't actually be seeing it released for a while yet.

If I get the PS4 at launch I'm getting this with it. If I get the PS4 later, I'm getting this with it. Honestly I love Ready at Dawn and I'm really excited to play a new IP from them.

We need more third person shooters and less first person.

Hopefully it will be cover-based. Glad to see that didn't go with the 1st-person view honestly.

@Hurvl witcher 2 was linear and filmic and dirty and it was brainblowing... so no this game has lot of potential

@oneligas It may be a 3rd person shooter, but in what way would it gimmick Gears Of War?..

Just shut your trap and wait for official gameplay to be released.

@alioli he said the presentation would be "filmic" not the gameplay. I'm staying hopeful.

@endorbr This game looks like Sony's Gear-killer or Halo-destroyer, so holiday season 2014 is most likely the launch window.

@xiiraveniix @dkdk999 Neither shooting nor the perspective is the problem, I just would like to some new and fresh art design and this game have such desigh.

AlkaPorty
AlkaPorty

@xiiraveniix @dkdk999
I'm sick of hearing this, the problems ain't shooters, the problem is BAD shooters, they are almost all copy/paste from successful franchises.

AlkaPorty
AlkaPorty

@blee575 @AlkaPorty @xiiraveniix
I'm a shooter fan and even I have difficulties to play a shooter.

Even though I kinda agree, since less shooters would mean that more passionate developers would develop them and make something great out of it, but in another way I don't, because there's a lot of shooter releases doesn't mean that you have less choice to choose from other games.

blee575
blee575

@AlkaPorty @xiiraveniix @dkdk999 The problem is that there are too many shooters, not shooters themselves. I like to cycle genres - play an RPG, then a shooter, then an adventure, then a racing game. Kind of hard when the majority of games are shooters though.
