3 year warranty covers 3RLOD which occurs when there is a 'general hardware failure'. Every thing else is covered by the standard 1 year warranty. The 3RLOD covers the vast majority of problems, though, although a bad disk drive would probably not cause the 3RLOD. If you are really that desperate, there are ways of causing the 3RLOD. Plus, I've read that people who have been extra nice to the service reps have gotten their unit replaced even though it wasn't due to 3RLOD. Remember, though, it's a really high percentage that IF you are going to have a problem, it will most likely be the 3RLOD.

The 65nm chips did not even go into production until May, according to some articles. I wouldn't think any unit manufacured before July would have them, but just a guess on my part. As for the heatsinks, it has been reported that some refurbished units have been sent to customers with added heat sinks. The only way you would be able to tell is to open the unit, which by the way, voids the warranty. I wouldn't worry, just game, if it breaks it breaks, and you get a new one for free with the new hardware revision.

There has been no announcements about it. However, the real reason to introduce the 65nm chips is to reduce manufacturing costs. Typically, when manufacturing costs are reduced the price is dropped. Seeing as MS just dropped the price, I think it's safe to assume that they've introduced the chips, at the very least at the manufacturing plants. Whether those units have hit stores is another story. However, new Premium units with HDMI adapters are in stores now. Why would MS drop the price and change the hardware set up without adding the chips? Additionally, while it's fantastic that MS offers a 3 year warranty to make up for their mistake, I don't think they'd offer this without first making the changes to reduce the amount of replaced units. It's just smart business. Anyway, while I don't know for sure, it looks to me that the 65nm chips are either in stores, arriving now, or arriving very shortly. Either way, since there's a 3 year warranty, why wait? If you get one without the new hardware revision, you're still covered for 3 years. By the time it craps out, if it craps out, then it will be replaced by one with the new chips. IMO, no worries.

Uh...let's see....fantastic SP gameplay, great graphics, great story, great AI, 4 player co-op, balanced difficulty levels, fantastic MP gameplay, great stat keeping, medals, and now achievements, best MP matchmaking system on the market, saved films feature, customization of playable MP characters, and arguably the best soundtrack in any video game. Other than that, there's really no reason to be one of the 10+ million people who are going to buy it.

Those were separate observation as 65nm chips haven't shipped yet, my comment was that both noise reducing upgrades we are waiting for, the chip and the drive, were not in current Elites thus not the reason why my Elite is quieter tham my Premium.

DullBozer

Just curious. How do you know the 65nm chips haven't shipped yet? Since the main purpose of the 65nm chips is to reduce manufacturing costs, I wouldn't think MS would offer a price cut before the price of manufacturing was actually reduced. I always assumed the price cut would coincide with the introduction of the new chips. Additionally, I wouldn't think MS would offer the 3 year warranty and retroactive reimbursement without having taken steps to reduce the amount of defective 360s. Just smart business. Anyway, got a link as to the actual date of the chips being included?

Poorly designed and they rushed it out to get it in for the holiday season of 2005.MJB91

So what's your excuse for the massive PS2 defects resulting in a lawsuit for Sony in which they settled out of court. Did they rush it too? It happens. MS made a mistake and owned up to it. 3 year warranty, retroactive reimbursement, and the new hardware revision solves the problem. A lot different than Sony refusing to do anything until sued and still never admitting that they, a hardware company, screwed up as well.

I think it's great. The one big mistake I think MS made with the 360 is not making the HDD standard. Now developers can design games knowing they for sure can use a HDD. There are many games, though, that have been designed to use a HDD if it's there and not use one if it's not (like Oblivion for example). Now devs don't have to waste the time programming that option if a HDD is not present. Saves time and money for them and as long as it's marked clearly on the game case, then fine. Plus I'm curious as to how many Core owners have not bought a HDD. I bet it's a pretty low number.

also im not saying all americans are jackasses. just alot of them are ignorant on liveA_ShooK_One

I'm an American and it does seem sometimes that there are more American jackasses than jackasses from other nationalities. However, something to consider is that America is by far the largest gaming market. It's nearly 4 times the size of Europe and Europe is twice that of Japan. Therefore, there just are way more Americans on LIVE than anyone else. Every country has jackasses, but if you have more people from one country on LIVE, it just follows that you'll have more jackasses from that country as well. Percentage-wise, America doesn't have more jackasses than other countries, though it may seem that way since there are so many Americans online.

Go to Xbox.com for a list of compatible devices. There are a couple wireless adapters that work besides the MS one. You may be able to find one of these for as low as $40 (US).

I had that happen too, but it worked flawlessly for six months after that, then crapped out. I don't really care since with the 3 year warranty MS is paying for it, so I'd just not worry about it and just keep gaming. If it dies, it dies, and MS gives you a new one. I would assume, so as to save money, that MS would give you an updated unit. This way they don't have to keep replacing them. So, IMO, it's probably a good thing if yours craps out. Then you get one for free that is made properly, with the newer chips and extra heat sinks.
