I've heard too many people complaining about their 360 breaking down months after they got it and I was wondering why. I want to eventually get a 360, but I don't want to waste $400 on some piece of crap that's going to break down months after I buy it.

Overheating due to poorly designed heat diffusion is generally accepted as the cause of the hardware probs. I've had mine for a year and usually fall asleep with it running a dvd and I've never had a problem so I can't really comment much on the subject. However, the hardware problems are supposed to be nullified when the 65nm chipset comes out...some people even say the Elites built in July already have this and are fixed now.

Although there is definitely a hardware defect in the 360...the people that actually get the RRoD are still a small minority.

yes, due to the amount of heat the GPU gives off, it overheats. about 30% of consoles are deffective (got ROD)

The famous "33% failure rate" is based onone employee at a retail chain saying something like "it seems like 1 out of 3 consoles we sell comes back defective" It's hardly a reliable estimate nor is it confirmed by Microsoft as far as i know so take it with a grain of salt.

Stoping the heating is a matter of cooling your system with a fan or something...

Yeah one time we called Microsoft with questions about my (original) Xbox and they said that it was overheating because it was sitting on the ground and it couldn't circulate enough air to keep it cool, so I put it on a crate with holes in it, so air can pass in and out without any problems. Sure enough that actually worked, so I think if I get a 360, if I just do the same thing, I won't have problems. Hopefully.

I cant remember where I read it but MS had said that one of the manufacture plants was producing faulty boards. hence the 33%. they werent cooked properly so when it heats up the solder softens and the chips move away from the board losing contact = RROD!

i use 2 small tiles about 2 by 4 inches that elevate the 360 about half an inch of the surface, it works to keep it slightly cooler

So what's your excuse for the massive PS2 defects resulting in a lawsuit for Sony in which they settled out of court. Did they rush it too? It happens. MS made a mistake and owned up to it. 3 year warranty, retroactive reimbursement, and the new hardware revision solves the problem. A lot different than Sony refusing to do anything until sued and still never admitting that they, a hardware company, screwed up as well.

Yeah... the poor design... due to microsoft wanted the release to be earlier than expected... Like the release consoles were a HUGE tragedy because of all the issues, problems, bugs, and dying consoles

I bought my 360 like last week and i already have had the RROD. I will also be getting it back in 2- 4 weeks...Its pretty dissapointing when you fork out $400 and the thing breaks so easily. Same things have happened with all my friends xbox 360.

Hold on a second, if you bought it last week why oh why would you send it in for repairs when it is under the standard store warranty (30+ days)? You could have taken it back to the store and gotten a brand new one.

That just doesnt even make sense to me, and seems a little made up to be honest.

You ever seen a post saying "my 360 works like a charm!"? If it works fine people don't mention it, when it breaks you go online and whine about it. Its normal to get the impression that theres a lot of broken 360's on a forum like this, but the majority here don't have a problem.

Ive had my 360 for about 5 months now, and its ok, I sleep in the basement so its very well ventillated and cooler down there. You cant be binge gaming on it either, you might exhaust the 360. also dont move it around so much. Therell be some morons who do all this **** to it and when they get the RoD they go "HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!? I DONT UNDERSTAND!" Usually people who get the RoD were very careless gamers

Where do you live? Every major retailer (especially electronics stores) offers a 30 day store warranty.
