I'll be the first to admit that the old-school Resident Evil games were never scary and a thing of the past. And that's ok. I've had great memories playing ps1 RE games that were quite innovative for their time. They were fun because we had never played anything like them. Expecting Capcom to just re-create those feelings with a "fixed-angle, atmospheric, puzzle heavy, survival-horror style" Resident Evil title that also lives up to the industry standards of today is just sort of wishful thinking, and unrealistic.
It's like expecting Square-Enix to make Final Fantasy good again.
I miss the old memories like the rest of you. But take Revelations for what it is. It looks pretty decent.
@Senor_Kami Sounds like your just assuming. Personally, I cannot wait for the game to come to ps3. But this was really meant for the Wii U crowd... they really needed this. Hell, the system needed the game because there's like.... nothing for it. A good game like Legends would be great to help with the wait for other titles. Plus, the game is like... done on the Wii U. The dev's are pissed because they worked tirelessly to meet their deadline only to be given this news.
Also, being multi-platform wont help it "kill sales" when it's going up against Grand Theft Auto.
@DaDumb1 @Gekko135 @FreedomPrime exactly. the demo doesnt really give a good first impression. the reason I didn't try it again was that I didnt enjoy it the first playthrough. l thought the game had zero variety. and the stealth was awful and lacked any sort of sophistication.
@FreedomPrime Well I suppose i'll have to go back and try that stuff out. It seems i've personally offended you, but I appreciate the input. You can relax now.
@Ovirew When game development is your livelihood, one cant simply be humble. It sounds to me like Chen is being realistic. Gaming development has sort of become an all or nothing industry. It's probably a good thing their next title will be multiplatform.
And your insane if you think he isn't proud of what he's done. But having a job is nice too yah know.
Played the demo. And there had better be some godly move upgrades for Raiden to get throughout the game. Because otherwise it's nothing special.
There's no block or dodge or roll maneuver. Seriously, Raiden is a cyborg ninja... why can't I flip around to avoid enemy attacks? Saying the parry system "makes it more challenging" is a cop out... I felt fucking gimped. Also another problem with the lack of an EVASIVE action... means that gameplay now boils down to raiden approaching one enemy... then slash slash, parry, slash, blade mode.... then on to the next one. It forces the player to take on a single enemy at a time until it's dead.... cause... well, why would you just run away and fight another enemy when you're safest standing there and parrying? That's BORING. And REPETITIVE.
It's not simply the pandering to larger audiences. It's not the change from "survival horror". RE4 is critically acclaimed as one of the best the series had to offer. It's my FAVORITE Resident Evil game. Capcom managed to successfully evolve their franchise back then. An amazing feat if you ask me. RE4 is NOT survival horror, and the game is still being sold today. What made that game good was: Good graphics, suspenseful combat, good length, TONS OF WEAPONS to buy and upgrade, and awesome monsters.
The problem with RE6 isn't the lack of "survival horror" or it's "action focus"
RE6 took the formula from 4 and 5 and simply FUCKED IT UP. It's too damn dark, the camera is god awful, the melee hit detection is terrible and inaccurate, the combat scenarios have little to no thought to them, no weapon stores or upgrades, and awfully presented story... that does little to nothing to advance the established fan favorite characters. Instead we get one liners from Jake, whining from Pierce, and crying from Helena.
TLDR; It's like the rest of you said... it's simply a bad game that doesn't live up to the quality the series has been known for. Capcom and Resident Evil have not been able to keep up with the times.
