Coming from a Nintendo only fanMAN: (ME) ---sorry for the long write up (EDITED)---
Honestly now that it seems THEY (Sony) ARE MAKING IT A POINT NOT TO SPLIT the userbase. Requiring devs to make the game with two options BASE mode and NEO mode. That is great. Won't be a Nintendo 3DS to NEW 3DS situation which is OK for the portable market but i think Nintendo should of first of all: named it 3DS PRO and it should of come out when they came out with that plastic contraption called the CIRCLE PAD PRO. (granted tech advances as time goes on and all sorts of processes to go through patents etc ...but i think thats how it should of gone down) I had no impetus to get a circle pad pro..what a hunk of junk. sorry Nintendo. It is what it is. But I am yet to upgrade to a NEW 3DS purely because its financial in my personal case...because I would of already ditched my old 3DS XL for a NEW 3DS XL by now. So yeah.
Now apply this to PS4/PS4 NEO situation. It is slightly different because that is the portable market with the 3DS and what Nintendo did is fairly logical i GUESS. No real harm there ..it is really to force you to upgrade(IF you want THE more offered by the new system and those exclusive games it plays). I mean who wouldn't want to go from 3DS to 3DS XL...IF YOU REALLY want the exclusives and better specs. EVENTUALLY. heh.
Well again in the home console space .....it might make sense that Sony is doing this. The 2008 financial situation may have held things back and "nailed Sony and Microsoft to the ground a bit" so that now the machines are behind(i watched a youtuber mention this... found it an interesting errrRRRR opinion?)
So now Sony and Microsoft when they got out of the gate with these new machines TOUTING the power prowess they were already behind i guess that makes the WiiU look even more underpowered(personally i don't think it is so out of sorts it is a pretty decent machine Powerful enough just needed a bit more cpu OOmph and RAM. (so third parties didnt have to work to get specific wiiu games running ..then can just port easy)No biggie then WiiU is not doing so well and the plan im sure is NX will eventualy replace it. I hope Nintendo supports WiiU for another 5 years though it really is a cool console.(so misunderstood)
Anyway.... i think this situation with the PS NEO is special and should only be done once. If both Sony and Microsoft do it it will be totally understood. I think it is ABSOLUTELY fine..for now..at this time in this particular console cycle.
BUT if they are going to adopt this as the norm that is where I draw the line. NO. JUST NO! That is not the direction our industry should go IMHO. If that is so why don't WE go PC and forgeT consoles....that is the thing a lot of gamers may be feeling/saying even but then you'd have to have that $$$$$$ to keep up with the rapid changes all the time.
Which leads you back to the fact that THIS IS WHAT MAKES CONSOLES SO AWESOME. You buy it once it last 5 -7....even 10 years+....
The question that should be asked is WHY can't console makers MATCH PCs or exceed when they make a box. Throw as much memory and CPU power with the latest cutting edge GPU in there and forget it. heh. So that it can last 10 years+ easy. That will be expensive for all parties you say? Companies and gamers alike.....well consider the every 2- 3 years dropping 400 down. that is 1200 every 3 years(minus peripherals and games). Pocket change right? lol
Maybe everyone in the industry needs to put their heads together and sort this out..
I think the eventual solution is to only have a "DUMMY BOX" at home much like ONLIVE.com tried to do.....I think we are headed towards THAT MODEL anyway....CLOUD GAMING with CLOUD COMPUTING those server blades giving us immense POWAH!(power) lol. Super fast Internet is more and more widespread with higher and higher speeds now.
Soon latency no matter where you are in the world wont matter much. Discs can still be supported in the "DUMMY BOX" until disc are eventually phased out and we go ALL digital(oh you all know it is going to happen some day)...with the ability to recover EVERYTHING you backed up. Your personal data, games and game saves.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo can release that one "DUMMY BOX" to connect to the respective online networks for cloud gaming. Server power means unprecedented graphics and fidelty and alwasy up to date with the latest belsl and whistles of tech tech techy tech!. Upgrading would be on their part and imagine those benefits eh?!
Before everyone looses their shit.....perhaps another idea is they can put the current machines LEVEL of power in that BOX (maybe it can be "SMART BOX" instead? for in case the networks go offline you still have a local experience. They could even make a MODULAR RAM/CPU thing to upgrade this "SMART BOX" so that your local power when the SERVER is offline has more power more graphical fidelity... and each have a modular style of their own.(Sony.Micorsoft & Nintendo)
Imagine going to the game store getting Sony RAM/UPGRADE module for Playstation OR Xbox or Nintendo module(think about the days of the N64 RAM expansion pack)
It could be THAT SIMPLE and have all in one SOC(system on CHIP) CPU+GPU+RAM thing...you buy one thing and it expands the power of the CPU,GPU & RAM constantly(each company can choose how often/refinements-it would be CHEAP!!!! for gamers and companies alike) PLUS this "DUMMY BOX" or "SMART BOX"(well the second idea is that it can have some LOCAL power..ok ok) it will STILL connect to the CLOUD NETWORKS for way higher computing and higher power and graphic fidelity!
Either way I think my ideas are better than having to buy an expensive ass hooha of a console EVERY 2-3 YEARS just to game.(NOT COUNTIGN THE COST OF GAMES AND PERIPHERALS!)
If our consoles become like that phone or tablet model it's GAME OVER for consoles. IMHO. heh.

@sladakrobot: While everyone has been focused on the rumours of wether it will be hadheld/console hybrid and the technical specs......well ther is a patent that showed something that can pick up hand gestures with a camera.....
But I think Nintendo are going to make a "Wii Remote 2". Which will be more advanced and has to do with augmented realty and this patent using cams to pick up hand /fingergestures.....it will work in unison with that and NX i think...and ill be one of the control gimmicks that will be OPTIONAL.(one of them being a shrunk down VITA like size-which may be the standard control method i dunno but it would make sense if its wuu u compatible) )(marry a cellphone to a 3DS kinda look ) version of the WiiU gamepad using that tech it had and being more advanced)
So yeah WiiMote 2 is a theory. Specs..from all the NEOGaf so said leaks..I believe NONE of those hardware specs. I await OFFICIAL Nintendo announcements. :)
Well i thought this rumor was definitely going to come to fruition as something actual. Also...Sony seems to be into the Matrix Movies. What with PROJECT MORPHEOUS *from the Matrix Movies) being the codename of Playstation VR. Now the new PLaystation 4.5 aka PS 4K is codenamed Playstation NEO. Which essentially says Playstation NEW. As NEO means NEW. AND of course is the character from the Matrix movies.
OK then up next is Microsoft, Will they divulge of HOLO LENS techy stuff . oh wait I should say will there be an Xbox1.5? that is XboxONE point 5.

I have paid for netflix on several occasions. I also have taken advantage of the FREE streaming months. I have done that once with Amazon Video/Prime i think.
But er..I am defo gonna get Netflix AGAIN in the future (the WiiU app is great ..so was the Wii app heh) or both it and Amazon. I mean what I like to call the "WWW discount" LOL (free online streaming) for those who don't want to or simply cant shell out is good and all BUT being legit has it's pros. ;)
What is great about it is I can selectively decide oh...i feel like i can afford Netflx in such and such a time in the future i will get it and go on a rampage of watching stuff anD entertaining myself for that ,month. Then I can decide to cancel after that month and then perhaps in future when more financially stable i can say..my its not that much a month I will stay the whole year or 6 months or w/e and I can drop off and on as I please. That is the awesomeness on NETFLIX imho..
They keep the LOW prime and the option to cancel(unlike cable tv and sattelite contract prison) and it is a WIN. IMHO
Basically NEVER BECOME CABLE/SATT TV and Netflix will always have my vote slighter higher prices or not. But if they become like EM then fk that! heh.
@ShadowsDemon: I hope people don't get me wrong. This price is still sweet and LOW for what NETFLIX is.and now they have original shows. Which may be a reason for this price hike as long with what I mentioned before...more bandwidth serving and higher vid qualities)

If the prices keep going up.(until it reaches the same price range OF).what is the point of them being an alternative(A MUCH CHEAPER AND BETTER MODEL imho) to THE RIP OFF of cable or satellite TV?(you pay for a FEW new things-of which mostly are shit like the FAKE ass "REALITY" TV shows) and the rest is CYCLIC RERUNS!!!)
@jefftechh: Yeah...and if NETFLIX continues to raise prices and becomes just like cable and sattleite TV...the whole point of things like NETFLIX and Amazon Video become obsolete. IMHO.
Why pay so much money to watch frigging TV. I think too much money is wasted on meaningless drivel(CABLE TV RE-REUNS AND CRAP JUNK REALITY TV MESS PILE). So the whole point of things like NETFLIX is the LOW LOW PRICE. You watch what you want MOVIES/TV SERIES WHEN you want AND You CANCEL ANYTIME!
Change that and start going higher prices. You lose your KEY FANS YOUR PRIME...install base EVENTUALLY, I think.
But I kind of saw this coming. I been thinking about it a lot. Especially in the light of programs having a shelf life and being removed and all this.
It makes you wonder about the finance issues of NETFLIX. is their this thing about having to pay royalties and what not for hosting programs what...how... how does it all work I dunno. Why would programs need to be removed? hm?
Now prices are rising. Maybe it is o pay for them hosting more and more and serving higher and higher bandwidths for higher video quality 4K is the new thing now(soon to true to life 8k ?OR better than life 16k? lol) as HD was last time around. heh.
