I think I might be in the minority here but this is bad move - Those disc feeders are much more susceptible to breaking and normal wear and tear than a top loading system.  I really wish they would go with a more traditional set up.  There are allot of mechanical parts in those disc feed systems that can break.  Disc trays like the Xboxes or even better the PS2's top loading system are much more reliable and add less to manufacturing costs.  I like the PS2's Slim lines set up best.  Nothing to break or wear out there.

You make some fine points but I'm nottoo worried. Sony has been building feeder system for car stereos for over a decade now - and it's hard to see a more inhosptiable environment for something like this than a car. Constant vibration, temperature extremes, distracted users, etc - if they can make them reliable in a car they can definately make them reliable in a console. ;^) As for me (and I don't think I'm odd here) I think it's also likely that people don't change the disc in a game console as much as music players overall. Some do, I'm sure, but I think most people pop in a game and play it through (I've not had "Dragon Quest VIII" out of my system for over a month). I'm sure there are exceptions (and I'm sure that like the PS2 the fact that the PS3 will double as a movie viewer will increase the "traffic" into the drive) but overall I think it's a safe bet.

I understand your point of view, but Im sure you wont put in the hours on your car stereo as you would on your PS3. Also when an errors occur with disk feed systems (pc or audio system) it takes the patience of a surgeon to get the disk to eject. As we all know most casual gamers are a bunch of idiots when it comes down to troubleshooting a problem with a system. Im sure you will get a few brainiacs who will flip the PS3 horiz/vert during gameplay. Also, blu-rays drives may not be as stress resistent as a dvd player. When new technology is introduced, you have to be very delicate with the products. While the disk feed system makes for a innovative/furturistic look, it may cause more problems in the future.

Game On.....

[QUOTE="Bad--Robot"]it isnt cows are just foolish noobs . FF7 had 3 disc Re4 had 2. if every person in SW made a top 5 games of each gen I bet 95% of them would have both of those in their gens listjaba328

Yes of course because playing games like GTA would be really comfortable since you'll have to swap disks every time you go to another city. Or maybe they would have only one city, no planes and limited cars because you'll have to fit it all in one disk. *cough*Saint's Row*cough*

No need to imply that the DVD9 is not enough storage for the next gen games, its already been acknowledged that the huge game of Oblivion is all on one disk. So if other devs cant get their games on one disk, they obviously dont have good coding techniques to reduce the redundancy in their program. The next gen is all about stepping up your game, no more will sloppy devs will be able to just get by anymore.

*cough* Blu-ray un-needed space*cough*

Oh really, yeah we'll see about that in 2008 and 2009 about how much space a game can use.

When 2008 and 09 rolls around it will be almost time for another console gen to occur. Im sure by that time better compression techniques will be developed, improved rendering and coding methods will be learned, etc, etc. Similar to the technique of bump mapping this gen and how it decreased the amount of polys on a object while giving it the appearance of a high poly count item.

Enough space, no problem.....

I see why the rest of the boards insults the average System Wars forums(dumbasses). Someone comes up with a decent topic and fanboys gather and tear it apart. Sony should be scared/afraid of all competition that have the potential of taking away the spotlight. When a company become too complacent, too set in their ways, a competitor comes out of left field and catches them offguard. Just look at the ground the Xbox gained during its lifecycle. According to critics, the Xbox was suppose to be the next 3DO but look at the position of the Xbox camp these days. Now Nintendo has invented a innovative way to play games and could possibly take Sony in Japan. Of course Sony or MS will sit back and observe the success of Nintendo and its device and may decide to emulate the technology if it takes the world by storm.

The point of the matter is the Sony should never underestimate its competition.
