@WhoIsTheDrizzle: That's exactly what I kept thinking. For a game that draws inspiration from a colorful collection of games, this one is dull.

I came just to applaud Mr. Newhouse on his amazing headline. Bravo, sir.

Maybe I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here, but I'm curious as to why there's a three and a half minute segment discussing where Assassin's Creed Unity went wrong, when the game was given a 7/10. I'll be the first to admit that even the best games have significant flaws, but I feel like a lot of editors and writers (not only at Gamespot) tend to defend scores like this from angry fanboys by saying "Well, a 7 or an 8 is a good score." That's certainly true, but seeing primarily negative analysis of a game that got a decent score seems a bit off-putting to me.

Maybe it's because the general consensus of ACU purchasers is that the game is incredibly flawed. Either way, it's a bit confusing for me to see so many people (critics and otherwise) have very little to say about a game's redeeming qualities, yet its average review scores are above average.

I can't say I agree too much with this review. While it does get repetitive, especially after you complete the short "campaign," I definitely get the feeling of satisfaction that Justin claims to be missing. Most characters' special attacks take out dozens of enemies if you time/place them right.

I played a lot of the game alone, and never ran into any issues with dying too frequently. If I did hit a rough patch, I had plenty of skull coins and found them relatively easy to earn.

I think instead of being "stuck in an uncomfortable middle ground," this new Gauntlet does a great job of being outrageously simple and accessible while still maintaining a degree of depth in its core gameplay. I had a blast playing it.

@Apofis_SG-1 I totally agree. The stealth sections were dull, and the game took you away from the action to its own detriment. I'm all for changing the pace and for some narrative, but there were some sections that were almost unbearable.

@Unraed Yeah, I'm less likely to play those longer more expansive RPG's. You put so much time into them the first playthrough, I'm typically burned out by the time it's time for a second playthrough.

I think inFamous Second Son (and the other inFamous games for that matter) did a great job of keeping the stories short enough to warrant going through them a second time just to try out the other powers.

I also think that being able to look up alternate endings online kind of spoil it too. Part of the reason I haven't gone back and played Far Cry 3 yet.

I'm with Gamespot and the majority of the gaming public on this one. This was a major disappointment. I still wanted to give it a chance despite the negative reception, but it's all justified. Thief COULD be a good game, but it's too sloppy. Hopefully Eidos get another chance to do it right.

Short version: It's god-awful.

This is in part why I love PC gaming so much (not a PC supremist, I promise). It gives you the ability to put crazy, stupid and fun additions to games that are completely serious (see: GTA IV and Skyrim). Not only that, but you get hours of playtime after you're done with a game and you mod it to death. Even some crazy ideas make for cool add-ons like Just Cause Multiplayer.
