How about the first man to the moon? ;).
No other country has that kind of track record, I don't even want to list the firsts the U.S. has done, I'll be here too long. We'd be much further behind without U.S. inventions. In fact we wouldn't even be typing over the internet!
I enjoy world history. Particularly World War 2, Roman Empire, and the American Civil War.
To call Americans "dumb" is like other nations calling themselves dumb or ignorant.
First of all, making sweeping statements about a nation of 300 million people is "dumb".
Secondly, the U.S. is composed mostly of people descended from European countries. So, basically we are a reflection of Europe.
Note: Only the first 2 statements and the list are in answer to this person, the rest is just a "heads-up" for those who think badly of americans.

You need to dosome more research, more than one of your list of "US inventions" is incorrect, for example the Internet is credited to Tim Berners-lee, a Brit. The light switch was invented by John Henry Holmes a Brit. Suspension Bridges have been around since before America was discovered. Themodern traffic light maybe a American invention but the first traffic was British.I'm sure I could find more mistakes if I could be bothered.
The modern suspension bridge was invented by James Finley of Uniontown, Pennsylvania in 1801 (ok I meant to say modern, those used today)
The toggle light switch (the most widely used now) was invented by 2 guys from New York in 1916
I too can find flaws with yours.
But again, let's respect the thread and stay on topic. Agreed?
I enjoy world history and probably know it even better than my own countries' (other than American Revolution and American Civil War), but sometimes I wonder if Eurpeans et all are showing their own ignorance by making sweeping generalizations that the U.S. (a nation of 300 or so million people) are all ignorant to world history. Thats absurd! Especially since we immigrated from other countries.
Hell, I'm an American of English/German descent. The English side may go back to before the American Revolution or shortly thereafter. My German side came over to Ellis island in the earliest 1900's. I suspect most Americans have similar mixed ancestry.
I can kind of see your point but are you honestly saying that by improving or marketing someone else's invention/idea that you can claim credit for that invention, I think not. Like you said, back on thread. What I think the overly Patriotic (and more than slightly ignorant) thread poster needs to realise is, that if he had a reasonable understanding of History he would know that, yes, America has contributed to modern History and, yes, the World would be different with out it. But many other countries have contributed equally if not more, and that the World doesn't owe you a favour just because you're an American. Its that kind of ignorant, arrogant attitude that makes the rest of the World hate you and think you're "dumb". Britain was over confident of its position and achievements and look how its ended up (bearing in mind it had an Empire the likes of which America couldn't dream of rivaling)
