First off this is a great topic. I nice to see what actual gamers think of games rather than reviewers.
Anyways, I've said this before, but I do not like the Zelda Twilight Princess game. It lacks in so many ways it's not funny. The Tiger Woods 08 graphics where horrible. However the mini-putt feature was great. Its too bad there are no custmisable courses for that. The sims was childish and boring, but had some fun moments with character reactions. Big Brain Academy was cool for ten minutes until you figure it out and reliese its all the same thing for the whole time. Mario Party 8 was a drab and boring experience. So far most everything I've played sucked in one way or another. Wii Sports tops everything so far. I think thats where I get my expectations for this consol from. What could be. Thats part of the reason I did not like the Zelda game. It could of been more.
I saw a review on Boogie for the Wii on G4. They gave it a one out of five. Says it really glitchy and the controls do not sink up well.
I also read an article in this months EGM Magazine in titled "Wii Crap". It's about all the junk that's out for the Wii. It reminds of the old days when Atari 2600 ruled and everyone and there mothers released games for it. Yes there is good and great stuff out there, but you have to go through so much crap to find it.
I ended up finding a new copy of Mario Tennis Power Tour and it says right on the box you need a cart for each player. DUH!
So I bought it as it was the only other copy I could find. It works well the two player system. So now I have two copies of the same game. Call me crazy! All this for two players. The instruction booklet actually goes through all the methods for connecting multiple players.
I'm sorry to hear about all the hassle you've gone through for this. If this particular GBA game requires two cartridges (one in each system) in order to play, it should say so in the game's manual. Some games unfortunately don't have a single cartridge multiplayer mode, while others do. And with some that can do both like Mario Kart Super Circuit, more options become available when each player has their own cartridge.deadfirezero
I purchased the Mario Tennis used at Gamestop so I have no instructions. I do not know if this Multi-link two cartridges required is mentioned. One of the games we did try was the Mario Kart Super Circuit. Unfortunately Nintendo did not follow that example for all the Mario style games as the Multi-link, Multi-player options would be much easier to do. One thing I did try was the Mario Tennis on GBA to GBA link. This did not work also. Which is why I do believe this must be a two cartridge link deal.
Well this whole thing is confusing on how each gba title works with multi-link. Anyways I found out that Mario Tennis Power Tour must need two Carts to work. One in each machine. As two carts where unavailable I do not know this for shure.
Here's how it went down.
I went to the Gamestop where I purchased the link cable and the Gameboy player. As they where sold out I could not exchange my Gameboy Player there. They called up another Gamestop. So I ended up travelling a ways to get there. All this for one game. Well the employee and I tested a different Gameboy player on multiple multi-link Mario Titles and they all worked after a little understanding of how the link system worked. It was unfortunate that they did not have another copy of Mario Tennis as we where going to try two carts on that one. Mario Tennis is the only Mario game we could not get linked for two players. At least I knew the link works on this different Gameboy player so I made the exchanged. The employee and I find out the Gameboy player was pennied out. Meaning Gamestop no longer sells them. So the good thing is I got my money back for the Gameboy player. The bad news is I had to spend gas money and Mario Tennis is still not working as two players.
From your description I'm not quite sure you're trying to do...
If you are attempting to play this GBA game using the Gameboy Player as a second GBA, then the cable you need is a GBA link cable, not a GameCube to GBA cable. I have a third party cable which is actually both types, so there are three connectors:
- A GBA link connector marked 1P
- A GBA link connector marked 2P
- A GameCube controller connector
I just tested this myself with Mario Kart Super Circuit, which supports two player versus racing without needing two copies of the game. The GBA cartridge can be in either the Gameboy Player or the GBA. The cable's 1P connector must be hooked up to the one which contains the game cartridge, and the 2P connector goes to the one without a cartridge.
Turn on the one with a cartridge first and start the multiplayer game via the appropriate menu option(s). When prompted, power on the second unit (the one without the cartridge).
If you reverse the connections (2P with the cartridge and 1P without), it won't work. Similarly, it doesn't work with the GameCube controller connector. So if your Pelican cable does not have two GBA link ****connectors, you're out of luck.deadfirezero
That is the same cable link I am using now. I will try your description of the setup tonight. I thought I had tried this before, but I will make shure. I am trying Mario Tennis Power Tour, but I do suspect the setup is the same so if this does not work. The frustration I have. Once again the gamecube controller connector works and works well on my other multiplayer gba games. It will not work on Mario Tennis because it is looking for that cable link connection. I must be doing something wrong, so I will use your steps and write back about it.
