Why would anyone, except maybe the most philanthropic of people, put their mods on a free site when they can toss it up on Steam and charge money for it?
Granted, I am biased as I am not a SW fan in general. I am a sci-fi fanboy and SW is bad sci-fi (there, I said it).
That's because, strictly speaking, Star Wars isn't really sci-fi at all. It's the Hero's Journey set in space.
With that said, I agree with you on everything else. EA wrapping its tentacles around the franchise for the next 10 years doesn't exactly instill me with confidence. I don't see much good coming out of this union. Which is a shame because I am a Star Wars fan (and a sci-fi fan, too).
Bioware games are littered with baked in trash mobs and combat. Maybe I am missing something but I never really found it possible, like it is in New Vegas (somewhat) or Fallout 1 and 2 (both of which can be completed without ever killing a thing) to completely talk your way out of combat in games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, KotOR, etc. In fact, I've never really found dialogue to have much of an impact in most of Bioware's games. You basically get the good, smart-ass, and Rambo dialogue choices, which ultimately are fairly meaningless in terms of the choices and options open or closed to the player.
Supposedly, it will be possible to complete the new Torment without fighting.
I like it. Of course you need to be careful where, and on what, you spend your money but a smart consumer always does that. Publishers typically only bet on one kind of horse (the one that's going to make them the most money), crowd-sourcing allows developers, the people who actually create games, to make the games they want to make. It puts the "art" back in the hands of the "artists," so to speak.
As much as I am liking PoE, and I am, I'm going to have to go with Wasteland 2. Mostly because i like turn-based combat a lot more than RtwP and I prefer the sci-fi setting in Wasteland 2. The original Wasteland was also the game that turned me on to CRPGs so, yeah, there's that, too.
There is not a shortage of active class abilities in this game. Over 300 of them in fact, spread throughout 11 classes.

As well as the game is written I think it is primarily a character/party building RPG. I really appreciate being able to build a new character, toss them into my party, and go on my way. It really encourages experimentation with builds which is something I personally enjoy.
