So we know how these threads in SW always boil down to "my opinion is different than their's," but I wondered anyway what were some horribly overrated games critically in your opinion?
I couldn't stand Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands is just awful, and Monster Hunter is only fun if I was blind and catatonic.Â
borderlands? more like borelands.
RDR is fun, but nothing special.
god of war is unbearably boring.
uncharted is just meh.
mirror's edge is the go-to book on why platformers are never in first person.
and i have yet to play anything from bioware that doesn't bore me to tears.
Oh dear, so many of them.
Half Life 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Ico
Halo 3
Halo 4
Grand Theft Auto IV
The World Ends With You
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metroid Prime 3

[QUOTE="Brown9"]No problem, I just wanted to see if it worked on this format or not.was this a bluff to debluff the other bluffer's bluff?... not sure if true. But I forgot how to blacklist anyway.
Bluff called. Well played.
Ico and SotC still suck.Â
Blabadon
Â
also, brown and chaz can go die in a corner for calling ico and SotC bad.
The only thing that is overrated is the word overrated.
But I sure as heck didnt like 999 all that much, while good I didnt wouldnt say it is great or anything like that.
Now popular games I dont like would be anything Bioware created that isnt BG1, BG2, NWN: HotU. Uncharted, InFamous, SM3DL, Skyrim (then again, I am not sure that game is well recieved by players that much nowdays, I see mostly hate on it even on GS) and Guild Wars 2 (then again much like with Skyrim most seem to have realized what a shallow PoS this game is).
The Ico and SoTC games, fun games but thats it.
Half-Life and MGS4 as well.
The Uncharted serie (except 1 it should get more love then the last 2 games)
I can't believe I am saying this, but I agree with Brown.
For all the arguments that can be made about their validity and legitimacy as works of art, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico fail at being good, you know, games.Â

You make it sound as though I'm wrong most of the time.
But yes. I believe games should be fun GAMES first and foremost.Â
[QUOTE="Technoweirdo"]> 7.5 game, or "just good, not great".Yeah, the last third or so of the game pretty much ruined it for me. Just too many enemies, some of them really spongy, forcing me to spam Murder of Crows/Shock Jockey. I'm not looking forward to it on my 1999 run. In fact, I'm almost there.

Excuse me for trying to get what I want out of the game.
If I were to judge the game on my first playthrough on Hard (which I did NOT want to play on but was forced to because 1999's locked), I'd rate it much, much lower. 1999's made the first two thirds of the game much better for me.
and i beg to differ. they are excellent games on their own, not just artsy stuff. SotC has the perfect pace of giving you time to rest and ride around the world to contemplate it, and the thrilling, amazing colossus battles.I can't believe I am saying this, but I agree with Brown.

Ico might fall a bit shorter on the quality of gameplay department, but only because of the combat system, which is a necessary evil.
I absolutely disagree. Shadow of the Colossus was a well designed game (and certainly much better designed than Ico, that's for sure), but it ultimatey was a victim of its own ambition. That framerate was terrible, the controls were, for want of a better word, clunky, and dear God that camera. That camera. I probably could have and would have dealt with the controls and the framerate, but tha camera completely broke the game for me.
I have heard the PS3 version fixes these problems to some degree. If and when I ever get around to playing it, I might change my stance on this game (although nothing will make me change my stance on Ico, Ico is just mediocre as far as game design goes), but as of right now, Shadow of the Colossus is a lot of hype because the game is so 'artsy' and nothing more.Â
i don't remember having framerate issues back then, but i'll give you that point, even though the HD collection has no issues whatsoever.
the camera is fine. if you don't like the X and Y axis movement, you can just reverse them on the menu.
the controls are like that for a reason, much like, say, the resident evil games. resi 4 doesn't let you run around with the gun ready to fire for a reason. SotC's controls are a physical representation of the character's struggle in the fight. that's why you hold R1 to climb, that's why in Ico, you hold the button to hold Yorda's hand, there's a purpose to that, and it's there to help the immersion, and to help you connect with the protagonist.
if anything, team Ico understood how to make controls represent actions better than most devs. and if your problem was the mapping, just use the menu's keybind option and map them how you want.

techno reminds me of those people that say "WoW sucks! i played 7000 hours of it, i'd know!"BrunoBRS
Love those kinds of people. At their worst, they're pathetic. At their best, a source of lulz.Â
Techno is the lulzy kind.
Not me. Game sucks I kick it out faster than you can say "why?".Â
Half-Life to some extant. Same with Journey.
I'd also say Spec Ops: The Line, but most of the praise for that was mixed to good so I can't say it was "overrated".Â

Konami Code, what can't you do? If only I could go back in time to prevent my Hard playthrough. Oh well. lol

I knew before because i looked it up but still went with Hard to know what to expect. Gotta say original bioshock on Survivor seems it will be a lot harder.
