You are not missing out. Half Life pretty much popularized the bubonic plague of gaming.
you mean storytelling without cutscenes or QTE setpieces? :oWhile there are no QTEs in half life, setpieces exist. So do cutscenes, difference is, in Half Life they are all unskippable, and you can bop your head around and walk around in a locked room.
Half Life was a huge popularizer in cinematic gameplay which is the worst thing to happen gaming imo, the bubonic plague of gaming.
sure.and videogames are what makes kids so violent these days.
Are you saying that Half Life was not a huge part in popularizing cinematic gameplay? It wasnt just Half Life, nor was Half Life the first game with cinematic design or setpieces, but Half Life was one of the major contributors towards the shift towards cinematic gaming.
If this discussion keeps up it wont take long for it to turn into a HL bashing thread.
i think you're too quick to pin the "blame" (if there's anything to be blamed for to begin with) on a single game.trends happen over time. you can't say that resi 4 and gears single handedly turned shooters into brown cover based crap, or that CoD is the game responsible for the "modern military surge" in games. there are a lot of factors, in and out of games, that affect the begin and end of those trends, it's more than "this game is praised let's make more of it".
