Well let the discussion commence!:P

World Exclusive: Orbis Unveiled (Updated GPU Info)

Neogaf Discussion link

LIVERPOOL SOC

  • Custom implementation of AMD Fusion APU Arquitecture (Accelerated Processing Unit)
  • Provides good performance with low power consumtion
  • Integrated CPU and GPU
  • Considerably bigger and more powerful than AMDs other APUs

liverpool

CPU:

  • Orbis contains eight Jaguar cores at 1.6 Ghz, arranged as two clusters
  • Each cluster contains 4 cores and a shared 2MB L2 cache
  • 256-bit SIMD operations, 128-bit SIMD ALU
  • SSE up to SSE4, as well as Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX)
  • One hardware thread per core
  • Decodes, executes and retires at up to two intructions/cycle
  • Out of order execution
  • Per-core dedicated L1-I and L1-D cache (32Kb each)
  • Two pipes per core yield 12,8 GFlops performance
  • 102.4 GFlops for system

GPU:

  • GPU is based on AMDs R10XX (Southern Islands) architecture
  • DirectX 11.1+ feature set
  • Liverpool is an enhanced version of the architecture
  • 18 Compute Units (CUs)
  • Hardware balanced at 14 CUs
  • Shared 512 KB of read/write L2 cache
  • 800 Mhz
  • 1.843 Tflops, 922 GigaOps/s
  • Dual shader engines
  • 18 texture units
  • 8 Render backends

Memory:

  • 4 GB unified system memory, 176 GB/s
  • 3.5 available to games (estimate)

Storage:

- High speed Blu-ray drive

  • single layer (25 GB) or dual layer (50 GB) discs
  • Partial constant angular velocity (PCAV)
  • Outer half of disc 6x (27 MB/s)
  • Inner half varies, 3.3x to 6x

- Internal mass storage

  • One SKU at launch: 500 GB HDD
  • There may also be a Flash drive SKU in the future

Networking:

  • 1 Gb/s Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WIFI, and Bluetooth

Peripherals:

  • Evolved Dualshock controller
  • Dual Camera
  • Move controller

Extra:

  • Audio Processor (ACP)
  • Video encode and decode (VCE/UVD) units
  • Display ScanOut Engine (DCE)
  • Zlib Decompression Hardware

UPDATE: some people is confused about the GPU, here you have more info about it:

Each CU contains dedicated:

- ALU (32 64-bit operations per cycle)

- Texture Unit

- L1 data cache

- Local data share (LDS)

About 14 + 4 balance:

- 4 additional CUs (410 Gflops) extra ALU as resource for compute

- Minor boost if used for rendering

Dual Shader Engines:

- 1.6 billion triangles/s, 1.6 billion vertices/s

18 Texture units

- 56 billion bilinear texture reads/s

- Can utilize full memory bandwith

8 Render backends:

- 32 color ops/cycle

- 128 depth ops/cycle

- Can utilize full memory bandwith

All this info issubject to changein the future by Sony.

But it hasn't been unveiled, its just another "leak" to add to the pile, which, quite frankly, has been allowed to grow far too tall.

Seems good in my opinion. I may pick one up at launch depending on pricing. If it's too high though, I may wait. Very satisfied with my WiiU at the moment.

PS4 needs to hurry up and be announced already. Want to see what Sony has cooking up in the games department. I couldn't care less about the Next Xbox unless they announce new entries into the RARE IPs.

Seems about right. Ps4 is going to be quite the powerhouse.

Little disappointed if the drive is only 6x, though, they should use 8x. Unless noise is an issue, then yeah 6x is fine. I'm so sick of load times though...

Like the PS3 at launch, Sony is going to premiere the PS4 as a flagship Blu-Ray player so most likely the drive will change when officially announced.

Speed really hasn't meant anything since 2005. And yes, they do because soon everything is going to need that many cores.

Depending on the workload, these jaguar cores will perform similar to Phenom 2 x4. Quite an upgrade from the pitiful PPU's in current consoles.

We'll see. The extra speed would be nice but really i'd be concerned with noise when I think about it. We all know how noisy Xbox 360's 16x drive was even if it was poorly built.

The i7's in some laptops are usually clocked at around 2.0Ghz and they still perform fine. What I'm actually thinking is how i5's will fare in a possible near future with games presumably made to work on more multiple cores than they have while they don't even have multithreading.

Nonsense. A much newer architecture running at 1.6ghz might be faster than an old architecture running at 3.2ghz (for example) but the same architecture running at 3.2ghz is a monumental difference.

It isn't the be all and end all but it IS of significance.

The point was an 1.6 ghz cpu could beat out one at double speed (Xenon, Cell) due to architecture. Apples to apples, of course it matters 100%.

Yeah, but we all know PCs perform much worse than their specs would indicate. PS4 will be a closed system so I wouldn't worry about that.

There we have the beauty of a PC. When my i5 starts to struggle I'll swap it out for an i7. No need to change the motherboard, unless of course I want to swap that for a faster one as well. It's not a closed system so there is no need for me to worry :)

I downclocked my by 8 core amd to 1.6gzh a while back and tried a few games, the ones that would actually launch ran at playable framerates, including heavily modified skyrim, which is not at all optimized for 8 core CPUs.

No disagreement there. If you have the funds your PC can always be future-proofed.

All these "leaks" need to be taken with a pinch of salt. While they might be somewhat accurate they are only guesses most likely made by people with too much time on their hands.. Anyone who does know the actual specs will be under very strict non disclosure agreements and I doubt they would be stupid enough to leak them.

for some people (dweller cows) any positive leak about orbis = fact and any positive durango leak = lies, durango leaks that cows use for their agenda are those with specs weaker than orbis.

Also, it says a lot about the video game industry and its community that posting a bunch of numbers and tech jibber jabber is now considered "unveling" something.

These numbers don't add up for me. 1.6 billion triangles per second seems low while xenon did 500 million per sec. Sony claimed the ps3 could do 2.0 teraflops and this is 1.8? Would it really be that expensive to overclock that CPU to atleast 2.0ghz? Audio processor? Doesn't the CPU usually handle that. Where is ronvalencia when u need him.
