I think it will be rated 9/10.
I remember ging full in on Botw, doing the same here: 10/10. I did have a better feling with Botw, but I still think Mario can do it.
I think there's still room for the hat mechanic to underwhelm, or some of the game's structure to feel derivative (hey there, Yooka-Laylee). So I'm going with a 9.
That said, game looks great and I'll pick up Day One.
I'm staring to feel really sorry for the lemmings this fall. With Mario Odessey releasing +the second DLC drop for Zelda , the x1x is going to be a huge failure when it comes to sold numbers :(.
And I hype Mario a 9
I'm really looking forward to playing this game. :)
Me too. This will be Nintendo in top form.
8/10 ... not sold on the city malarky... graphics look washed out as hell in those vids too.
Not that it matters, as Breath of the Wild was also washed out.. yet Nintendo.. so free passes are bound.
I'm hyping it AAAAE. But to be honest, I don't care what the reviewers at this or any other site say. I know it will be a great game and a day one purchase for me. I will thoroughly enjoy it, I can't wait.
@MBirdy88: Not all hold graphical fidelity with such importance.
Like right now I'm playing Prey and it's not a particularly handsome game at all but it's tons of fun, which is a way more significant factor. Personally, I'm willing to give graphics a pass if the gameplay is great.

Yea I get that, but I thought Breath of the Wild was overated, so that's probably me projecting a smaller problem, over my "this is more of a 8/10 ... to much repetition, not enough unique content" gripe.
Great mechanics, and I imagine a better sequal would make me change my mind completely... but BOTW was ocean wide, puddle deep... and its "main story" content was just utter crap.
@MBirdy88: Oh yeah I totally get that! That is definitely something I could see impeding the joy someone might have with the game. It makes more sense to me than graphical fidelity, that's for sure.
Again, playing Street Fighter V now and that game is really unattractive to look at but also piles and piles of fun. :D

a lot of people speculated that would be the case since it was so large in scale...i wonder how many others feel this way..i haven't seen a ton of criticism about the game, but it has been hard to shake the idea that they managed to overcome that problem

Honestly, they largely did.
I think this is gonna be fantastic! Seriously my only beef with it is the regular looking humans in the first world. After that i think it looks so damn fun. Can't wait to play this one.
This is the first Mario since SM64 i feel excited for. Easily AAA but i dont know if itll nail it hard when it comes to every single region in game. I saw some footage the other day and some regions were exciting and well designed some others felt okish.
I dont know if this will end up the case. Whatever the case finally a true successor to one of the best platformers ever, SM64 that is. Nuff said whatever the score of the game in the end, to me this is must play day 1
AAAAE, Nintendo has been killin it this year. It'll be an amazing cap off to the year, Xenobld 2 notwithstanding.
@Sgt_Crow: Until the Switch game multiplat it is just another Nintendo machine that plays Nintendo game exclusively
It really is a machine that mainly plays Nintendo exclusives and indie games. It's a good thing that Nintendo can still make excellent games.
Just finished watching a few of the videos, and i gotta say the NY world looks really boring imo, however the sand world(that is frozen) look darn good... The transition between 2d and 3d is one of the coolest things i ever seen! So yeah going with a 9/10, but hoping I am proved wrong and this is another AAAAE for Nintendo!

It depends what you want from an open world game.
To me very easy puzzles (which very often repeated.) and just collecting more shrines just to get more hp and stamina... became very old. Sure, these kinda exploration mechanics were a good improvement over other games... but because this was barely RPG I barely felt the purpose in bothering.
I would sooner play through Skyrim on the Switch again, sure the environment is static in comparison, and the puzzles grim, and many repetitive areas, but because its a large open RPG where the progression feels far more tangible and many many different WORTHWHILE events/quests to do .. I clearly don't see why BOTW is put on a pedestal because it raised the environmental puzzle game alone.
Simple not enough to me... the puzzles didn't get anymore challenging or clever the more you complete, it was just hide and seek over and over.
*EDIT* especially when you got to the point where you could just farm fruit that gave you MAX yellow hearts... for 0 effort.
How you could so easily obtaine gear that could farm ancient weapons.
All that progression.. for what, 4 hours of story... christ that was dissapointing in itself.
I'm sure this can be addressed in the next zelda... and it was a good first attempt. but 10/10 and top game ever? no thanks....
@MBirdy88: Thats strange, i thought progression was broke in Skyrim. That shit was a joke. Zelda's progression is almost masterful imo. Also Zelda wasnt about the 4 hour story. If you thought it was, well youve been fooled. Nintendo doesnt do story like that. Nintendos story lies in the journey.
@clefdefa: The Switch is primarily good for Nintendo and indie games. I wouldn't buy one expecting much 3rd party support outside of some future Japanese titles.
All the same, the Nintendo games have been fun so far. :)
Put me down as AAAAE. I'm on an official blackout since what I saw from E3 but even with what little I saw, I have such a strong vibe about this game that I can't believe it will get any less.
I'd be surprised if it doesn't get a 10/10 on most reviews... Mario games (like Zelda) generally score very well.
Okay guys, like, if you want to knock up your votes, now is your chance, you're on the wrong side of history otherwise
