....XBL would increase in the hundreds, Another RROD fiasco would happen without coverage this time, all 1st party goes out the window, and Kinect becomes king of the platform. Nintendo would just keep making outdated hard ware.
They would get away with it because no one would put them in their place, you see Sony is the one pushing the industry forward and the reason why systems improve.

Damn it Shadow, I was with you up until that bit. :P
MS will charge whatever gamers will pay for Live. Nothing to do with Sony.
If MS puts out another faulty system it would not lose coverage just because Sony is gone.
I dont see what MS, or Nintendo 1st party has to do with Sony being gone.
MS will push Kinect as much as they want, or as much as the consumer wants. Not a Sony thing.
Nintendo will continue to do what brings them success. Did Sonys existence stop the Wii or the upcoming Wii U? No.
And no. Sony isnt the one that puts the others "in there place" and they certainly dont push things forward.
As a matter of fact, you can credit MS for putting the fire under Sonys ass this gen. Without MS there might not even be a PSN and even if there was it wouldn't be half of what it is today. You also wouldn't have seen Sony going all out on the hardware to compete and you most definitely would not have seen the rise of Sonys 1st party.
The PS3 experience, as it is today, can mostly be credited to competition from MS.
... so back to your original point, yes competition is great! I'd hate to see Sony leave, but don't give them so much undo credit, acting like they're the keepers of this industry.
They copy what they can when they can and do their best to stay competitive. Nothing more, nothing less.
