http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1202462

Related info from a meeting we had yesterday was waiting for it to be approved before posting.

Price is currently $399.99 they were discussing a better CPU which would raise the price to $499.99 we were guaranteed the price will be no higher than $499.99 (He mentioned the CPU upgrade quite a bit almost as if they haven't really decided on a final spec could be a pricing issue.) also there is currently no plan for any type of trade in program for current PS4 users but that could change.

They stated that the GPU is twice as powerful as standard PS4 and much faster. They did not say exactly how fast but that is was running at a higher clock speed while being much smaller than the original.

It will have a 4k blu ray player and will upscale games that are not natively 4k.

Also there was talk of some sort of VR lounge for the media player app which is supposed to be getting a substantial upgrade.

It was stated plainly and with no room for interpretation that there are developers that already have development kits for the PS4K and that they are making games that will directly target and take advantage of the higher specs of the PS4K. It was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.

It was also made very clear that current games would not be getting any type of performance upgrades by being played on the system and any benefits to older games would come via patch per game and per developer. When asked if this was going to happen the response was "Its a possibility but doubtful with the exception of a handful of games."

We were also given a list of games that will be available at launch that will directly take advantage of the PS4K where the differences are and I will quote him "Significant."

For the PSVR

Eve Valkyrie

Robinson

GT Sport

For the PS4K

Deep Down (Thought this was dead)

GOW4 (This was the exact abbreviation on the sheet I can only assume its god of war 4)

There were more games on the list but these are the ones that stood out to me.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head I'll see if I can get any more information.

If this actually happens, count me in for a new PS4K.

I like how excited people are in that thread about being able to upscale to 4k, wonder what they think happens when you plug normal ps4 to a 4k TV.

But sounds good, with this power From might make bloodborne 2 to run on 60 MOTHERF* FPS, DAY ONE!

So it's not really a 4k gaming machine.

I may pass, 500 dollars for just an above average upgrade?

I'll just buy a 980

also 720p games confirmed for PS4

was also stated that these games will in fact work for the PS4 but with considerable sacrifices made to performance.

This. The PS4 will need more than 2X the gpu to do 4K. It can barely do 1080p/30 with the one it has now.

Seriously feel ripped off though.

I mean, I bought my PS4 at launch.. but since then the exclusives library has been trash.

Bloodborne and Infamous are the only two decent games, and it's been nearly 3 years, U4 is the next big one.. so 3 major releases in 3 years?

Why should I give Sony more of my money?

I should just switch to PC gaming.

We could get a 4K Resogun 2 or some indies or something like that. 99% of the library will be 1080p native though. It's happening folks. Too many sources are saying too many of the same things. We will get an official announcement before E3 I'm sure.

You're joking? I'm looking forward to the story continuing a new direction.

As for the PS4 4K, this is ridiculous. This will alienate the fanbase as a gaming console goes. Evidently, they're doing this to compete with the Oculus Rift by having a console capable of running it - which the PS4 is not.

That makes sense. It won't be Polaris either since they have to keep the architecture the same. People expecting this to turn the Ps4 into a PC, running all games better, don't get it ; that would make the whole platform unstable and mess up older games.

So would buying this magically make my current PS4 games perform better in terms of framerate? Or do developers actually have to patch those games to take advantage of the hardware?

My thoughts exactly. If it's $400 then a $200-250 trade in for our current PS4's would soften the blow. No way I'm about to spend another $400 for an upgraded PS4.

@AM-Gamer: Hard to say. You can't directly compare architectures and when looking at benchmarks, Nvidia rigs games sometimes so they're not always indicative of performance.

7970 is a great card though. New Ps4 might have more ram for graphics than that card as well.

@AM-Gamer:

If roughly 2x the PS4 it's a AMD 7970 or R9 280 give or take. No direct comparison to an Nvidia card but close to an Nvidia 770/680.

Quite the upgrade, but no way in hell is it going to play AAA at native 4k or even 1440p for that matter.

Edit: 2x Power increase is curious. The jump from 30 - 60 fps requires almost exactly 2x the power. PS4-60FPS edition seems like a likely and easy development while keeping the prior model relevant. Good move by Sony if true.

Exactly what I said. Upgraded GCN hardware and looks like 7950ish (380ish)under the hood. So ps60fps (it's not a real 4k box) will be as powerful as my computerms from 2012. Which is what it should have been launched with to begin with. Anyway this will be a day one purchase

Between this and the $500 PSVR Sony is really losing their minds if they think most people have $1000 to spend on hardware like this. It's like they don't understand what made the PS4 so successful to begin with. I can't see this ending well for them if these rumors are true. This is Sega levels of stupidity if the rumors are true.

$400 for ps4, a few hundred in online fees, possibly $500 for new experiences within the same console gen...

Console gaming was already more expensive than PC gaming. If these rumors are true it'll just go overboard with expenses.

No it doesn't. Upscaling 1080p content to 4K is something 4K Televisions do anyways, just the PS4K might be able to do it better.

You know what's funny. Epic thought the ps4 would launch with 680/7979 ish hardware. I thought it should have launched with that power as well as many others here. But it was not possible to keep costs low so it launched with much weaker hardware that epic was anticipating. Fast forward 3 years and Sony is rectifying this lol. A lot of "it told you so: incoming

Simply going from 1.6 - 2.0ghz isn't gonna make up for a 2x increase in GPU performance. The PS4K needs to have whatever the successor to Jaguar is.

Sounds like a good revision. Wonder how the market will respond.

Would you get one smearcampaign? I would.

Maybe. Not quite sure, man. It would depend on how much better games I am categorically interested in would run on it.

It makes no sense for them to only upgrade the GPU. They also need to upgrade the CPU as well or its gonna be bottlenecked even more than it already is.

Exactly. Right now we are looking at a GTX 970 tflop wise and a second gen iPad mini CPU. That makes perfect sense. They are better off raising the price $100 and upgrading the CPU too like they are debating doing. Or we will see a PS4.75 in 2017.
