I see the statistics but I don't see it in reality.

Mainly because statistics count people I don't consider to be gamers, much less PC gamers.

My girlfriend's not a gamer, she's on Facebook every night.

Statistics count her as a "mainstream PC gamer" because she plays Farmville.

And then there's millions of people who don't play anything other than WoW.

Meanwhile you go talk to people, nobody seems to PC game, the scene is just dead right now.

ronvalencia

I also see a lot of kiddies who are limited to games like Plant and Zombies on the 360. They shouldn't be counted either then.

There's Kinect games on Xbox 360 or the entire Wii...

I know. One of my (female) friends bought Dance Central for 360 and I game on the Wii. According to Zombie, people like my friend and myself (when on the Wii) shouldn't be counted in the tally.

My views on it? A gamer is a gamer, period.

Did you even read the second panel?

Casual website and social network gaming was separated from PC MMO, PC Box and PC DD.

The PC has $6.9 billion against 8.0 billion for entire consoles (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3). If we divide 8 billion into 3 consoles you get 2.67 billion.

ronvalencia

It's very forunate that Nvidia funds these studies to occlude how dead PC gaming is.

Most gamers use more than 1 platform, and most gamers play a mix of games across those platforms.

The same guy playing WoW on a laptop in the cafeteria is playing Kinect games at parties, and Uncharted by himself.

I don't see PC gaming ever being relevant like it was in the 90's where everybody was dragging their PC around to Quake lan parties.

Maybe it just seems dead to me because I was there in the hayday.

Good God. LOL

That's actually very true. And I don't usually agree with ZombieKiller posts.

That's true, and a good solution would be if most digital distributors like Steam allowed ALL of their games to have a trial, like Onlive or Xbox live arcade games, you could have a time-limited access to the full game, then you could buy it to own it permanently and to get full access to the game files for modding. That way, the only people who would pirate are the actual a-holes who would just steal games indiscriminately, and maybe people in countries with no access to the game.

But then perhaps someone could edit out the time limit from the game files... The only solution is to download a section of the full game and add a time limit as well, like what they did in the Just Cause 2 and B:AC demo.

What do you need used games for if you have Steam sales? And the thing with upgrading isn't that much of a problem, it's only if you want to get the max out of a game, but even with years old gpus games look way better than on consoles

Cost, maybe. Last year I spent ~$1500 on a new PC and I'd say it was better spend than me buy another console (I only have 360 and I'm not really interested in other consoles atm). As far as reselling games, you can still sell them to people privately but you know how easy it is to pirate PC games, right? Thats the reason why they don't resell them. Also, Blizzard thing is questionable because their games are not what they used to be.

Very few people were doing that. It was as niche as it can go. Not mainstream at all.

Consoles are not for the consumer either. that is why for the past few years when i rent or buy a game used i have to add $10-15 to my $60 Xbox Live. Now, i think they are trying to get more money and there is nothing wrong with that, but consoles are no more better for the consumer than pc

Yup. Consoles are a closed platform. They will from now on be a money vacuum for the consumer.

 meanwhile we have 3 moba games that have more consistant players at any given time than any xbox game except modern warfare. Then the millions of mmo players, the still highly consistant shooter players, and ofcourse RTS like Starcraft/Civ/Total Wars ect. And everything inbetween, and the amazing list of indie games. Please shut up with the trolling, you dont know what reality is.

I like owning games on consoles due to resale value and collectible. PC games are hard to bring to your friends house you will need to install it download patches enter cd key and make sure you can use the game on more then 1 pc. Also i know the game will work unlike the pc.

Nobody does that dude. It's much easier to just bring your tower rather than depend on somebody else having good specs, then having to redownload anything. I can assure you nobody does that.

There is no such thing as used software on the PC. That's how it's always been. Deal with it.

TheShadowLord07

oh yes there is. any game doesnt require steam, orign, or gfwl can be bought used.

thats great...but whats to stop someone from making a backup(which is legal)...and the cd key...and then selling the original(not legal if keeping the backup)? its too simple to do stuff like that on pc

that being said, i agree with wasdie, the used market for pc has been extremely small ever since the inception(look the proper usage of that word) of cd keys and black listing.

i think having the same thing happen on consoles has been a long time coming. the developers/publishers make no money off of used games, and in an industry where everyone blames piracy for low profits, its ridiculous that the easiest solution that companies can come up with to increase their profit margin has been overlooked for the past 2 generations. stop used games or at least charge a nominal fee for a new cd key(something like 15usd) so that the game can be used on your system. itll hurt companies like gamestop for sure, but the pubs/devs will see alot more money, cause people are going to still buy games.

many of us do more non-gaming things with our friends...like go to the movies, dinner, the bar, the casino....or we have laptop as well

These days, laptops dominates the PC market and console's static development target made the laptop PC viable for gaming.

Fleet level Intel Ivybridge's HD 4000 IGP already rivals AMD A8 Llano's IGP while AMD A8/A10 Trinity APU rises the IGP performance level.

Interl Haswell's HD 5000 IGP (~40 IEU) is said to be ~3X over HD 4000 IGP(16 IEU) while AMD Kaveri APU gains 900Mhz version Radeon HD 7750 IGP.

There are many console gamers that play nothing but COD. Should we not count them either since COD is just as, if not more, casual than FarmVille?
